Bro heres some skating 101 for you The penny board and the bigger nickel board are Skateboard Cruisers, Not longboards. Penny made long boards for about a year, They sucked and took nothing to snap. Learn the difference please.

Since you're starting out I would recommend a complete. They're usually set up well with components that go well together. Also, you'll save some money going this route. As you ride and develop your personal preferences you can always upgrade the pieces later.

I have the Earthwing Supermodel. I spent a lot of time looking up deck styles and wheels that I felt would fit what I wanted to do which is mostly just cruising sometimes on hills and difficult terrain. I requested the deck, trucks, bearings and wheels from Muirskate for Christmas and have been riding for three days. I have no previous experience with riding other than a complete inability to ride a skateboard at camp in elementary school. I am loving the supermodel. It does have the really tough grip and big concave so it is obviously meant for more serious stuff than what I am doing but it is perfect for me. I love the concave especially because it cradles my feet comfortably. My main issue is trying to gain speed because I lose balance when I kick off too hard but I just have to practice more.

I have the second longboard from the left the Sector 9 with the double trucks, and i really recommend that board if your carving its really fun an still combines a little bit of speed with it at a reasonable price

I had a normal Plan B skateboard that I just used for tricks and short travel, and it took me awhile to realize that I didn't like tricks and that I just wanted to cruise. After getting a legit bamboo board I have been addicted to long boarding, but no hill bombing though, just getting places peacefully. I still use both my long board oand skateboard to this day and both are fun.

What I have is a downhill deck (drop-through with cutouts for the wheels) with sidewinder trucks (double trucks). The deck itself provides the stability while the two pivot points in the trucks provide the the great carving ability. I also have huge wheels that help with the bumps.

For cruising go with whatever feels best under your feet. The board at 4:08 is the Landyatchz 9two5 which is a sick ride! Great for freeride and slides, it'll slay some carves too. Hard to go wrong with that setup.

Gotta love the shred. Check the Loaded Fattail for rippable good times, the Loaded Dervish Sama for longer cruise oriented carving, and the Landyatchz Drop Carve for all around shred. Lots of choices out there, let your feet guide you!
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
A problem I run into far too often. My favorite is the Loaded Fattail. It's a sick carver and the flex gives it a surfy feel. The small wheelbase allows you to carve tight, plus you've got the kicktail to lock your foot into. That's my personal fave, but there are lots of boards out there. If you're not into the Fattail look for something that carves hard and pumps easily. Those tend to be the most "surf" like to me.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 10 лет назад
As you're just starting out, the Flashbacks would be a good call. They're a good "all arounder" as are the Dano's (if you need a less expensive wheel).
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
If you're asking about them in general, then here is a summary: a pintail is a deck shape, and they mostly function as cruising boards. Generally they have a medium to large wheelbase, and they're good if you like carving up streets.

@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Thanks for you comment, and top mount may work the best for you. There's definitely some personal preference that comes into play, but the drop through setup really lends itself to downhill and freeride. Lower center of gravity adds stability and easier slide entry. From what we've seen there are more who prefer a drop through setup, but there are plenty of people who like top mounts too. That's just part of the fun, figuring out what works best for you.
@bcsurfandsportvideos

First off, awesome user name. Right now we currently don't sponsor any longboarders under the shop name, but if you have some super shredder footage take it by your local BC Surf and Sport. You may be the first!
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
For cruising there is a ton of options, and it comes down to your personal preferences. Since you like the larger boards, try the Sector 9 Aperture. The Sidewinders are sick for carving around and super easy to pump. The Loaded Fattail is one of my favorite cruiser/carver boards, but it's a little smaller than your preference. Definitely worth a shot, try one out if you can. Check them out at a shop if you can, that way you can stand on them to get a feel for the board.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Like it! Good space for your feet, and with the kicks you can try all sorts of tricks and slides. Enjoy!
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Something that's an "all arounder" will get you set up. The Landyatchz Tomahawk or Switch are good calls, as well the Sector 9 Seeker, Sprocket, or Eye Dropper. The Loaded Dervish Sama is also a really good call that can handle a variety of styles plus excellent cruising.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Sorry for the late reply! The Tan Tien from Loaded is a solid choice. Good kicks for manuals and flips, cruises and slides well too. It's not too heavy either, which will really help on flips and tricks.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
Yes we can. First up, the Landyatchz 9two5 will hook you up for most anything you want to throw at it for 260. Also check out their Tomahawk for a top mount that can handle some tricks as well. You could also check out the Original Freerides for around 220. Sector 9 also entered the mix with the Seeker and the Eye Dropper.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Good news! Most longboards are fine for cruising it up. I'd recommend something right in the middle as far as length goes, maybe 34 to 38 inches long, but you can go longer or shorter depending on your preference. You can check out A TON of boards on our site too.
@asender66
@asender66 11 лет назад
I really like the board that I ride at the moment which is the landyatchz switchblade 40. by the name it shows the length which is 40" but its a drop carve board.I cant remember what bombing is but carving is when a longboarder move his/her board side to side thus slowing themselves down. plus its fun. cruising is just what it sounds like, its just cruising around. A cruising board would be just for riding around instead of other boards for sliding and tricks. Hope this helps.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Something carvy and cruisy. Sector 9 Sidewinders are solid for good flow and turns. Boards with flex are another awesome choice as the energy rebound through turns and carves is solid. Check out Loaded's lineup and the Landyatchz Drop Hammer for some flexy shred. Big wheels will help keep the cruise up (72 and up), as well as good bearings.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Sure can. Since you're really into freeriding my first suggestion would be the Switchblade 36. If you've got some big hills you may want to go with the full on Switchblade (only an increase of 4 inches, but more stable on fast runs). If you want to do some freestyle tricks I'd definitely lean towards the Original. The nose and tail kicks will really help out for manuals, shuvs, etc. Mainly comes down to your style.

No worries, that's what I'm here for! If you're doing a lot of commuting I'd go with a Sector or a Loaded if your budget allows. The Loaded Fattail is one of my faves, and it'll cruise and carve it up with the best of them. If you go with the Nickel pick up some grip tape for it. My feet slide a lot on the Penny/Nickel decks and that gets annoying on a long cruise.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Check out the Landyatchz Switchblade, Bustin Robot V2, and the Bustin Sportster. The Loaded Dervish Sama is another sick ride if you aren't taking on massive hills.

Lots of good boards for street surfing. Carver has some sick ones and are pretty close to the surfy feel. Check out the Greenroom or the Resin, or the Swallow if you don't mind a shorter board. Sector 9's Sidewinder series has a great surfy feel since those trucks carve like crazy. The Aperture and Fractal are sick choices.
@theRipstikAirPRO96

Nice Video Guys! but as always, there is not the RIGHT board for anyone. There can be just the as closest as possible right board. But its very nice that you guys did show the basics on wheels and trucks and general board shapes, and what am pretty stoked about, you are the first ones that tell the difference between a dropthru and a topmount board. So, i think we probably hit up with some new longboarders soon who have chosen a pretty good board for their style. (never mind grammar -> german ;)
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
There's so many options out there it'll be tough, especially as so many personal preferences come into consideration. But here goes! I'd get something with some flex to it; it's more comfy and will have a nice springy feel through carves. Check the Landyatchz Drop Carve or Sector 9 Northern Lights to get started. A drop through setup helps as it'll get your feet closer to the ground for easier pushes. For trucks try out a good reverse kinping truck; Paris 180, Randal 180, Bear 852.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
Glad we can help! For a focus on cruise and carve I would definitely check out Loaded's lineup. Their flex patterns give a great feel and energy through turns, and they make great commuters. Check the Fattail if you prefer a smaller setup, and the Dervish Sama for something a little bigger. You won't go wrong with the Switch or Switchblade, but if you're not planning on doing some fast hills you wont need the super-stiff deck or huge concaves. continued on next comment...
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
Hi Meta. We find that Sidewinders are really solid for flat land carving, especially if you need to make some sharp carves. We've had a lot of people super stoked with Sidewinders to ride around campuses too. Also they can be solid for smaller riders who need a little looser ride to lean the board over. As for the top vs. drop, it's up to you what rides better. We've found more people prefer a drop for sliding, but if you like it top mounted then keep shredding it.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 10 лет назад
Alrighty, speedy yet good for the long haul. Check out the Bustin Ibach, good low platform for long distance pushes plus really stable at speed. They also make the Sportster, another solid choice for your needs.

Good news is that with your budget you can pretty much get anything you want and then some. For carves and hills there's some good ones to check out. The Landyatchz Switchblade can slay hills and has a pretty decent carve. My friend just got one and I was surprised at the carving ability. Another solid choice is the Drop Speed from landyatchz. Give the Bustin Sportster a good look too!

Could work too if you want to blend in some carvy goodness. For focusing on freeride and slides I'd probably stick with the Freeride 38 Rocker Concave though.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
For just cruising around you could go with a lot of different decks. Get some under your feet to see what feels best for sure. For cruising a longer deck (38 and up) can keep your momentum rolling. If you have a lot of tight turns or pedestrians check out a smaller board (below 36) so you can quickly maneuver.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 10 лет назад
Check out the Sector 9 Faultine and the Landyatchz Switchblade 38, or the Bustin Sportster. That'll stay around the 200 range and get you some solid gear for the shred.

Lots of goodies out there. Check out the Orangatang Stimulus and Durians. RAD (Rider Approved Design) has some wheels out that I've been hearing good things about, check out the Release from them. Abec 11 Freerides, and Zombie Hawgs are also good choices. For trucks check out Bear Grizzly 852, Paris 180, or Caliber 50's. Theres a ton of good stuff out there, check them out and see what works for you.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 12 лет назад
Stimulus 83A will give you a bit of grip on carves and be able to slide right away. You may find it easier to learn slides on a harder duro, like 86A, so if you've got a solid wheel for carving check out the 86A version.
@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 10 лет назад
Below 200 I'd check out Sector 9, Arbor, and Santa Cruz. You can also find some pretty quality setups from Landyatchz and Bustin at just over 200. The Bustin Maestro immediately comes to mind, as well as the Arbor Bamboo Axis. Getting a complete can save some money as its packaged together. If there are certain components you really want (like a specific set of wheels, trucks, etc) then building it from scratch may be better. Just depends on your preference.

yeah, the boards I mentioned are mid 200's. If your max is 200, check out the Sector 9 Drifter. Good for carves, cruise, and some slides (might need to change up the wheels to make it a bit more slide friendly).

@bcsurfandsportvideos
@bcsurfandsportvideos 11 лет назад
No problem. Your best bet (initially) is to get a complete. You'll save a bit going that route, and that'll give you a good basis for replacing parts later. Since I don't know your exact budget I'll keep it on the middle to lower price range. For tight turns the Sidewinder series from Sector 9 are legit. Great cruising, and even some of the longer boards turn really well. Landyatchz Drop Carve 36 is pretty solid too.
