They transfer energy during turns that gives the board some spring out of carves. Also, they help cushion a landing on tricks and let the board flex instead of crack.
Thanks for your thoughts Andrew. An Abec 3 bearing could be better than a 7, but most skate companies do make their Abec 7 bearings better than their Abec 3 bearings (better steel, polishing, etc). If you really like the bearings you're on (let's say Lucky) and they're a 3, you'll get a better ride by going to their 7's
do you have to keep dumping the cleaning stuff out and pouring more in? or can you just use the clleaning stuff throughout the whole time your cleaning the bearings
have you guys heard of the shark wheel yet? Some dude reinvented the wheel and made it square and it's supposed to be faster, "grippier", controllable, durable and work on multiple terrains, like little dirt patches between roads or so. Point is, check it out, you guys would probably like it if you haven't seen it yet
Should I worry if I went through a couple puddles I'm kinda new at this so sorry if it sounds stupid should I clean them or I shouldn't worry and avoid it next time
if you're riding everyday, that should be just fine. if you ride hardcore or on very rough and nasty terrain, you might want to do it twice a month. if you ride every once in a while, you can last about 2-3 months without cleaning them.
lube, i personally use the same thing that i use for my bicycle chain so that would work pretty good, though there are also bearing lubes... though i'd use good high end bicycle lube because in my personal experience it's the best
What you said at about 1:12 is incorrect, and should not be done. You dont want to have your back truck more loose than the front because it will be unstable.When riding, most of your weight is on the front, and thats where most of the turning comes from (note that no boards have a wider back section- theres a reason) If you want a twichyer ride then smaller hanger, higher degree trucks, and change your bushing shape/ setup. If the board is ridden every day - around once every three weeks to a month. Plus it's less than $2
citrus is fine because it is natural. however it does/may leave a residue that will hinder proper lubrication. its a personal choice really, just make sure to re-lube with proper lubricants.
oliver evans most people think that it is crazy but use citrus cleaner leaves a residue if you don't wash it in water. You dry the water off with a blow dryer.
Dude Abel was created for big machinery not skateboards. The difference between Abec 1 and Abec 13 is so insignificant that you can't even tell the difference. That's why bones and oust use their own rating system.
well you can if you do a lot of high speed hillbombing because i've had some abec 3s fail on me and trust me it's painful, though i have never had abec 9ns fail on me... plus theres a psychological factor involved, you can't really enjoy the ride if you're worried about dying in a crash... the only reason i'm alive is because i hillbomb in biker gear that's designed to take falling off a bike going at high speeds
