Nice advice. My father always told me, the first number should fit into the second number at least 4 or 5 times to be a worth while optic.

8x42 - 10x50 - 12x56 - 9x63(my favourite for evening watching) and 15x70 (for long static observation). Can’t go wrong with any of these....just take the right tool for the right job.

I bought a pair of Vortex Diamondback 8x42 today because, well I simply can't handle money (...and they looked cool) 😂 But I got really impressed by the quality! 🙂 But the magnification wasn't as big as I expected =/ They're great for watching objects within a range of 3~70 meters though! (I guess? I really can't estimate distance...)

I like 10x50 handheld. The price of a good porro design 10x50 is like $150, to get the same quality in porro, it costs like $1000. People say the price difference is getting smaller, it's not. It's only for the small roof like 8x24 that roof is affordable.

Always going for "maximum brightness" isn't necessarily implying a good optic. There's a reason the human eye opens and closes the pupil to adjust for the light. Very bright images aren't always the measure of a good lens. To get the ultimate lens, you need to buy something with ED (extra-low dispersion) glass. Something that eliminates, or very nearly eliminates chromatic aberration, or color fringing which will reproduce accurate colors and crisp images.
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 6 лет назад
Adding ED glass to a binocular to minimize color fringing (not all chromatic aberrations) doesn't improve things significantly until magnification hits 12X or more. It's really worth having on a spotting scope at 20X and higher. In a binocular I'd shop for maximum brightness first, since this usually means the instrument has the brightest mirrors (or an Abbe-Koenig prism.) Max brightness also indicates fully multi-coated lenses which maximize light transmission, minimize internal reflections, and minimize flare and glare. You get higher contrast with fully multi-coated lenses, too. Then throw in an extra-low dispersion lens and you'll improve apparent sharpness slightly by cleaning up that tiny rim of color fringing at those higher powers. Cheers and happy spotting!

Are there any binoculars that tell you how far away a deer is? Some people on my Facebook page are saying that they shoot deer 47, 32 , 28, 59 and so on. I'm curious to see how they know exactly how far away the deer are. I asked my friend how he knows how far away the deer is, and he told me that there are binoculars that tell you. Do you know where I can get any binoculars that tell me how far an animal is? If so, please tell.

ΛŁΞϾ Ð. That is the diameter of the objective lenses in millimeters.
@thekiminthenorth504
@thekiminthenorth504 6 лет назад
10*50 means the binocular magnifies the object 10 times and 50 tells the diameter of the objective lens.. as in 50 mm.. Greater the objective lens diameter, greater the amount of light entering the binocular... The second number in specification has nothing to do with field of view... Field of view is the angle made by an object at the receiver (watcher) end.. 7° and above are wide angle binoculars.. Two 10*50 binoculars can have different field of views... Greater the magnification, smaller the field of view.. you can relate this to a phone camera.. as you zoom in the lesser fraction of the object becomes visible to the eye and vice versa.. The greater the magnification, shakier will be the image.. (unless a tripod is used)

Great video. I need binocular for trip with my boys (6 and 9 yr). I want also watch the sky in the night. I have dilemma which model and magnification will be better? Bushnell NatureView 8x42/10x42 porro or roof?
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 7 лет назад
I think you'll find 8X easier to work with all around. Wider field of view for constellations, easier to for the boys to handle. Porro usually enables squeezing the eyepieces closer together (interpupillary distance) for kids and grown up with close-set eyes.

If roof models of Bushnell aren't more waterproofed than porro?
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 7 лет назад
Yes, generally roof prisms are more easily waterproofed, so I'd assume this for the Bushnells.

Is 6 x 25 good in daylight?
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 7 лет назад
Can be if it has fully multi-coated lenses. 25mm objective at 6X yields an exit pupil slightly larger than 4mm. The human pupil shrinks to about 2.5mm in bright daylight, so a 4mm EP provides more light than your pupil can take in.

8x42 vs 10x42 isn’t much difference. Unless your moving on horseback, where you’ll have less shake. Other than that it’s a toss up !

What is best configuration to view object long range
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 6 лет назад
Not enough information for a clear answer, Indranil. Increased magnification is the visual equivalent of moving closer. A 10X power makes objects appear 10 times closer. An object 1,000 meters away viewed at 10X would look as if it were just 100 yards away as seen by the naked eye.

I have observed that even small size binocular works even perfectly just like bigger one so why buy big one which is difficult to carry . I have one with 12x30 which works fine and can come in pocket.
@RonSpomerOutdoorscom
@RonSpomerOutdoorscom 7 лет назад
Larger objective lenses let more light in, create a bigger exit pupil (the circle of light in the eyepiece.) This keeps things brighter in low light and gives your eye more "room to move around in" before you get that dark edge shadow.

what 20-120X100, 20-280X100, 30X -380 x 300 this numbers mean??
@RonSpomerOutdoorscom
@RonSpomerOutdoorscom 7 лет назад
First number in a binocular designation represents the magnification or power. Second is the diameter of the objective lens in millimeters. So 8x40 means its an 8 power with 40mm diameter front lens. The lens size is important because the larger it is, the more light it lets in.
@oscarcrespo4637

what binocular is good to use in the darkness? Thanks
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 7 лет назад
Oscar: Of course you know no binocular will work in true darkness. You have to have some light in order to see anything, since reflected light is what our eyes/brains actually detect. So look at it this way: all a binocular can do is transmit any light photon that strike its objective lenses. The more efficiently the lenses pass that light, the brighter it will appear to you. So for low light conditions you want an exit pupil (as explained in this video) of 7mm or more. That's all your eye can use. Then you want the bet anti-reflection coatings on those lenses to maximize light transmission. So, with a 10X binocular, you'll need 70mm objectives to get a 7mm exit pupil. Huge and heavy. With a 7X you can get that 7mm exit pupil from 50mm objectives. Much more reasonable. If you desire a smaller binocular with a 7mm exit pupil, you'll need to step down to 6X. Then a 42mm objective will do the trick.
@czarzenana5125
@czarzenana5125 7 лет назад
The maximum size of your pupil decreases with age. The 7mm only counts for young people, let's say under 30 years old. It is quite rare that a person over 40 years of age has an eye-pupil over 5mm.

***** Thanks. Well it would be cool to have binoculars to watch all the creatures who just woke up from winter, thou here in Poland, they're so damn expensive ! And for me, as a college student 20$ is like a max price. (as I earn 100 usd scollarship - this country is poor) Are 20$ binoculars even worth buying, you think ?

Hey ! I think I've found my first binoculars. What do you think about Bushnell H2O 12x 25 ? (don't mind the zoom, I got it) It's worth about 70-80$ in US, but I've foud it here in Poland on a discout for 25$ :D Frankly it will be mainly used on backpacking and to watch roes, boars and stuff. Think I sould take it ? I don't really have much experience :) And thanks a lot for your help !

My mom wants a pair of binoculars to watch boats from her balcony. The boats are approximately 1.7km (1 mile) in distance from her balcony, would she better off with something a little more powerful like a 10x or would an 8x be good?
@bobdigi88
@bobdigi88 7 лет назад
Lamb Of God 8 would be perfect. But if she is only using them on a balcony then she may want to use a tripod and go to 10x. But for general use without a tripod, definitely 8x
