I agree, and while I have watched many of your previous videos, refreshers are always a good thing as we change seasons. Also, your newest subscribers appreciate it, I'm sure.

We use only black oil sunflower seeds. We attract chickadees, juncos, finches, grosbeaks, woodpeckers, a variety of sparrows and the occasional flicker. Are we missing out on attracting something else? (Alberta)

My bird feeding experience has improved dramatically since I’ve been listening to your videos. I’ve learned so much and figured out what I was doing wrong. I had such a challenge keeping black birds and grackles off my feeders and also away from the ground which kept the small ground feeders away but this past summer i didn’t have any problems. I stopped the cheap mixes and especially anything with cracked corn. I have specific feeders for safflower only, black oil sunflower and for shelled peanuts. How that changed it all. And since I do throw some sunflower seeds and peanuts in the shell on the ground, the squirrels stay there and don’t bother the feeders any more. I also have a specific area where I throw some seeds and grains which seems to have brought a great balance. All this to say - thanks from me on the south shore of Montreal Quebec. I love watching your videos.

Thanks for the video! Very informative, going to subscribe to support your channel! We love our birdies! Just had a blue jay, a red bellied woodpecker and a cardinal at our feeder today! We do use generic feed, (but looking to upgrade) and seems to get lots of birds besides Bluey, Red Heady and Cardi B, including chickadees and sparrows which I don't mind. Sometimes we get grackles, but recently haven't seen many. Not many starlings. Recently I bought some nyjer as we had a swarm of goldfinches eating our black eyed Suzie's. Cardi B likes the nyjer too and we have also gotten some flitty birds I haven't identified. They have two white striped tail feathers on each side. Juncos? Anyway I have put the nyjer into a mesh feeder. It gets wet when it rains and clogs. They do like it though, but I have to dump the clogged wet nyjer. Any thoughts? Is a mesh feeder good for nyjer?

Sorry for the late reply. Got way behind on vacation. I use Aspects Tube Top hoods for rain protection. They are great. Thanks for subscribing! Will be on live tomorrow night answering questions if you are going to be on RU-vid

I had some Wagners western bird feed goin which is white millet, black oil sunflower, cracked corn, Milo, striped sunflower and safflower. Tons of different types of birds would visit, but they’d throw a lot on the ground. When the bag ran out I ordered some black oil sunflower and loaded it up with the last bits of western blend but now nobody comes to visit. I wonder why?

That is strange. It may have more to do with how the birds you have visiting. If you have more sparrows, house finches and blackbirds, they like all of the grains. He sunflowers are preferred by birds like cardinals, chickadees etc. During the nesting season they are spread out more thus they will go through less seed

We had a terrible wind storm the other day and it destroyed one of my old feeders. I picked up a new all metal feeder yesterday,it had facing perches at the bottom and side perches as you move up the barrel (?) . Thinking of filling bottom part with safflower and when you move up the barrel going to black oil hopefully this will discourage some of the undesirable birds on the perches and still allow birds like finches to enjoy it.

Worth a try. Let me know if you have luck with that method

I like doing sunflower seeds but I dislike the mess underneath and could draw mouse in the winter /summer

Raking up the hills several times during the winter can help with that.

There is nothing worse than starlings. A somewhat distant second is house sparrows. Both non native, naturally. We have a lot ecological issues in this country, folks.
