Vitamin A as a whole can be made up of many different molecules. Each molecule is of a different weight and size and therefore goes to different levels in the skin.
If you use the prescription retin-A, retinoic acid, it is not working with all the skin layers. Think of your skin as a house, it has to have a strong floor, strong walls and a strong roof.
If you use a “complex” of retinoids (more then one) you will have a stronger skin structure which is what keeps your skin healthier and more youthful.
I prefer to use my retinoids every single evening over top of my serum. My retinoid has three molecules of the vitamin A grouping. This way, I have a stronger skin structure with less surface irritation .
A good home care regimen is about consistency, using products and ingredients that are right for your specific skin needs.
Here is a list of some vitamin a molecules with their molecular weight from smallest to largest.
Retinol - MW, 286.44.
Retinoic acid - MW, 300.42. - (Retin -A)
Retinyl acetate - MW 328.50.
Retinyl propionate - MW 342.56.
Retinyl palmitate - MW, 524.88

I absolutely love these tutorials❤ Because I am in Australia I don’t have access to a Rejuvi clinic but I do have access to purchase products online so this is incredibly informative. I am THAT person using prescription vitamin A and you described my skin perfectly 😅 I am putting away my prescription product and making the change 😊

I'm hoping prescription retinol helps my hyperpigmentation, but it's somewhat high maintenance, so I'm gonna to switch back to over-the-counter products when my skin has improved :)

Do you recommend using retinol over the counter every night? And is salicylic acid in a cleanser or exfoliant (1x a week) enough? Don't know what aha molecule is the same size as salicylic acid.

unfortunately the only retinoid molecule that works like a retinoid is retinoid acid. otc products do not contain this so the body has to convert it to this specific acid. the rest of the molecules of the retinol family are basically just antioxidants. prescription has been used for several decades now and are safe, not aware of any study that shows toxicity of vitamin A as the topical prescription is a pea sized amount. adapalene is the closest to prescription that is over the counter with studies that show improvement. cosmetic products are not studied for effect as prescriptions.
