I've been using Forester dies for over 30 years with complete success. Because of your in-depth review I added their Co-Ax press to my reloading process and it's truly amazing! Keep up the great work and than you for all the videos!

I have viewed a number of this gentleman's videos. I really like how he introduces what he is working with, tells you how he has done things and gives you data on what he has observed. He doesn't give a lot of opinion on this is how to do things in absolutes but gives one the relevant information they need to allow them to make more informed decision on how to proceed in securing items to pursue their reloading goals.

Nice overview. I settled on Forster’s Bench Rest Seater die years ago because it is “a better mousetrap” in the way it centers the case. Redding now uses the same design because Forster’s patent ran out. I also like Forster’s full length sizing die; however, the RCBS X-Die definitely extends brass life for me with semiauto rifles. There are multiple bushing dies available now that weren’t around when I started hand loading - I need to experiment with some. I’ve read somewhere about an approach using a slightly under-sized bushing followed by a precise mandrel to get exact inside neck dimension. For pistol cartridges, I typically get a Lyman 3 die set and add a Redding crimp die. Lyman’s M-Die expander is a better design (like the Forster BR seater), and their seating stems typically fit the bullets I use. Redding’s Profile Crimp Die works a little better for me than a normal roll crimp, especially for stout revolver cartridges. I don’t like crimping with the seater because then the bullet is still moving while you are crimping.

I've stayed with your first recommendation, Forester die, guts removed, 21st century manderals to set final neck tension. Work flawlessly. 3 thousandths n.t. 7mmrem mag. .0005- .0010 runout. Thanks for the schooling.

I just bought all the Forster bushing dies along with the micro seating die. These are my first setup since I'm starting to reload. From what I've researched your spot on to what other youtubers have said. Also several rag articles have given the Forster dies above average reviews. ✌️

I've been debating a new sizing die for the new gun for weeks, had no idea anybody had anything out there like that bump sizing die from Forster. It's sounds like a winner when concerning minimal sizing, even the Redding body die sizes the body of the case. Thanks for the timely video.

New to reloading, got Forster micrometer seater and FL sizer dies for 308 Win. Question: After I clean of factory preservative with gun scrubber/brake cleaner spray, should I spray internals with dry lube? No humidity concerns where I live, just to protect finish and aid in lubricity. Of course this will not be in place of using imperial case wax when resizing. Thoughts? Thank you so much

Hello, may I ask what your process is start to finish( I'm newish to this)? This is mine. Is there any order of things I should change. Its been quite effective so far. I been following your videos. Deprime, clean brass, anneal, lube/FL size( Forster only die body, rod removed) graphite powder/ neck size with mandrel( 21st Century die), (trim brass length if needed), Chamf/Debur, clean excess lube/chips, prime/powder, bullet seat. This is .308 ( Lapua brass/SMK HPBT) and I take measurements almost at every step of every piece to ensure consistency. One other thing I cant figure out is bullet seating( Forster die). I don't know if its to due with my press but I can take 2 pieces of brass (same case length, shoulder bump and all) set my die and one will be 2.2180 from base to Ojive and the next will be 2.2220 and the next will be 2.2200. So I have to fine adjust the die every time for each round to get them all seating the same depth. Thank you for the great content!

just wondering if it is a good idea to remove the spindle and expander ball and just use the die body and bushing to downsize the case neck and then expand with my 21st century expander mandrels??? I'm currently FLS with my standard Forster FLS die and expanding with my 21 Century expanding mandrels. I wanted to be able to bump and FLS the case without downsizing the case neck as much as the standard FLS die does.. I just received my die today, But it will be a few days before I get to do any case prep.😎

I think you mentioned forster full length die + expander mandrel gives the best result? Has your conclusion changed with Forster's Bushing Die? Thank you

The FL bushing dies are new and I have not had a chance to put it through the paces yet. A combination of these may work well too.

One question off subject if I may? Do you trim your brass every time you prep your brass or do you wait till brass is at maximum length? Thanks again for the schooling.
@BoltActionReloading

I do it every time, but I have a motorized trimmer so it's not a huge time sink either.

So Im just getting started and want to buy a set of dies to reload "precision" 308. I have been saving brass from different brands over the past few months. Would I want the standard full length die or the full length bushing die? THANKS!!
@BoltActionReloading
@BoltActionReloading 4 месяца назад
Depends on several things. If the neck thickness varies a lot your neck tension will vary, but it will with a standard die as well. If you want to get a bushing die then you can always use the expander to make any of them work. Your bushing will be determined by measuring the brass with the thinnest necks. The bushing die will cost you more upfront, but you won't have to buy a second die if you decide to go that way later you don't have to buy a second die.

Ten four! Thanks for the info! I think I’ll go with a standard die for the time being and observe the results first. Then maybe in the future if I get more in depth with it I may go to a bushing setup. Not doing competitions or anything as of now. Just like small groups. Thanks again!

Do you know if SAC neck bushings will fit in the new Forster Bushing FL Die?

Unfortunately, I do not believe they do. The forster bushings are slightly different.

@@BoltActionReloading Gotcha, thanks! How do you like these dies compared to the Redding Type S dies?
@BoltActionReloading
@BoltActionReloading 2 месяца назад
@matthewbborders I haven't used them enough to have a formal opinion on it. Generally I have had such good results with the redding s die with sac bushings it's hard to go to something else, but as I work more with 7mm prc I will be putting these dies through their paces.

@@BoltActionReloading have you had a chance to check runout on the forster bushing FL die? I picked up a 6.5 PRC and am debating the Forster Ultra set with bushing FL die and the Redding S die with SAC bushing. Also considering the RCBS Matchmaster FL set and running SAC bushing.

I wish manufacturers would include what their dies are made from. Typically they don't do this. Looking for stainless steel dies that won't rust is a particular hardship. I'm on the east coast where the moisture content is extremely high and all of my Lee dies have rusted beyond belief. Have to keep putting them in a tumbler over and over again to keep the rust off them.

This weekend I finally got around to testing some 6.5 PRC rounds with the 156g Berger and the Neolube #2 you showcased on your channel. The improvement to my SDs was incredible and my tightest 4-shot group with the PRC improved to .367". I think the group size can be improved further by upgrading from a 14x scope to a 24x. Thanks for the tip. I am a believer.

I like Forster, but it's not properly sizing brass for my axsr. I bump to .02-.03" and brass won't chamber.
