needed to hear this. I always hated squats, but never took them off my mesos because it was hard and theyre for REAL men. Finally hit a breaking point 4 weeks into my cut and could not do it anymore. Upped my other quad/ham exercises and they honestly give me better tension, burn, and pump, with way less fatigue.

Hey Dr. Mike! Here’s a quick dinosaur update from your readings as a child. Seismosaurus is now considered to be just a very large and old diplodocus. Nowadays, some massive titanosaur species like Argentinosaurus is considered to be the heaviest (basically the largest). Ultrasaurus isn’t known from much and may therefore also be assigned to another species in the future. Supersaurus is a valid taxon, but just not nearly close to being considered the biggest anymore. :) And congrats on 1 million!! 🎉

Your channel has single handedly upped my game in the gym. Consistently hitting stimulus that indicates I’m way closer to failure and I’m seeing a lot more improvement as a result. Love the focus on an individual, trial and error, approach and how the body can even adapt over time necessitating a shift. Good to know, as a relative noob, that I’m taking the right approach to selecting exercises that work the muscle smarter and therefore harder and I’m not alone in getting “bored” as I progress. Biomechanics are one of my necessary considerations for fatigue. I’m a 5’2” female so a lot of chest and back machines are set way too wide for my shoulders and cause pain without actually targeting the muscle. I also have to modify laterals because my arms are really long for my size, like gorilla swinging long, and the weight has too much leverage on the joint.

Exercises that grew stale for me feel way better when using your techniques. Holding the weight in the bottom position for a two count will get you to feel any exercise👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼

My hypothesis is that when you find an exercise with good sfr and you see it deteriorate, you just need to decrease the weight and improve your form and control, which seems easier than scouting a completely new exercise

This is a very important video, specially for beginners, since, when you start, you don't know much, and you sure as shit don't know if you are doing stuff wrong or how you know the session was effective. The proxies are what you want to feel while doing the exercise or after.

I've been following your advice and my strength is... EXPLODING through the roof. I was always a little scrawny kid I never thought I'd be able to bench 260 or deadlift 500. The gains are ridiculous I hit an entire new level where I'm a) not injured b) no longer plateauing. I'm seeing a linear improvement in strength that was inconceivable 12 months ago. Who knows where it ends but dang, you turned this skinny nerd into a tank. It's awesome. All natty too. I never thought in a million years I'd bench more than 225, it didn't seem physically possible but the correct lifting actually works. Who knew.

I worked out the way you recommend yesterday for the first time. I did 6 weeks in the gym in the middle of the year and was making massive gains in strength for a 53 year old. But today is the first day I am a bit sore for maybe 30 years. Not bad sore, but just sore as if I worked muscles that I didnt know I had before. So it will be interesting to see how it goes as far as making strength gains go.

Yo! A million subs! Congrats! On the topic of this video though, there seems to be a fad in the French fitness community with trainers selling "morphological" analyses in order to recommend exercises to do or don't to bring up certain body parts. For example, they would tell someone they have a certain biceps insertion compared to the length of their arm and forearm, therefore they should do this exercise instead of this one. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the amazing information. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources. While you train with the primary goal of building your physique with the secondary bonus of mental toughness, someone like David Goggins trains for mental toughness with the bonus of being ripped. It would be so interesting to see you two together for a lift video and frankly just see what happens. Thanks for the god tier information.

Man, that second point re: fatigue (c. 25:20) hits home big time. I used to stick with movements like preacher curls, front squats, planks, and some others because I was young and new to lifting and hadn’t yet realized that you DON’T NEED TO DO THEM. I’ve finally snuffed out those movements that I just can’t stand, or that just take so much mental effort to step into that I can’t move onto the next one.

I've intuitively felt that I'll get more gains from doing flys more frequently, but I keep pressing because thats what everybody else does. Well, no more. I'm focusing on what works for me. For now. Revisit pressing down the road when the flys stop hitting.
