Man, my PE teacher has given us a group dance assignment and as a beginner it’s been so hard to get anywhere. This video has helped a lot throughout the process and even though I’m not even close to done, I have made more progress than I ever though I could. Thank you.

Love this video! My choreographic process is find a song that I can connect to, listen to it lots and think up ideas of the dance including what part of the song I am using if not all of it, improv, start putting some steps together and soon enough it becomes a peace, record it to watch it back and perfect it, show people to get different opinions and feedback.

i am choreographing a solo for my uni module… this is helpful, thank you 😊

Its similar to your process, but with the difference, that I played the music also by myself before and starting without inspiration - I mean, I choose the piece of music not because it inspire me. I feel, it helps also to create the story and find fitting movements to this story. And also I watch a lot of dancevideos, to be in environment of dancing, because I am not that higly professional in this :)What is also different, I dont film the whole time while improvising, I only film, when the movements feel really perfect to the music, I tried it like you before, but then it feels like to much in head and to much from outside... Because then I only wants to look good, instead of bringing out what I am feeling, doesnt matter, if looks good, but actually then it is easier with the feelings. Also what happens to me sometimes is, that I am creating from the feeling I am in this moment, onetime I was frustrated and I only wanted to lie, but I had to get the choreo ready to the next day and I had nothing and then I said to myself, ok, when I only want to lie, the I dance in lying, and suddenly the inspiration came. Its also an accepting on where you are right in this moment. Do you write it down on paper also? And how do you warm up yourself for choreographing? Thanks for the vid :)

Im super late but my process is first finding a song i love listen to it until i get ideas then put it together and edit it if needed! I also like try match the moves with the lyrics for example a lyrics could be "seas" i try to make a wave with my hands

I love the idea about writing a poem. In some modern classes we take a phrase at a time and choreography to something short. Then build things together., I like this too.

tyy i need to choreograph a dance for my solo audition

so,, i chose my song but it's rather,, hip hop,, rather than contemporary or ballet- I'm not sure how I'd write a poem for my concept of Daa Daa Daa by vinny west lmaooo no but seriously, this vid helped a lot, and I was actually coming up with choreo as the video was playing!! It was so cool ah, i have the first line of my poem: the speakers boom through my rib-cage "turn that shit up"
