Thanks, I watched and disassembled simultaneously. There was one hidden screw that took me a bit to find but I didn't just grab and yank. The squirrel cage fan was very dirty. I didn't know that it was blue. Got it all back together after a couple of false starts.

Excellent video! I'm going on three years and have always kept the filters cleanes, but noticed the build up on the squirrel fan. I need to perform this cleaning technique.

This is helpful. I actually had to do an emergency cleaning of my 18k Mr Cool which has been installed for about 23 months. My fan was like yours but even worse because air was barely coming out of my unit to the point that I opened a ticket with Mr Cool. Eventually I figured out that my fan was caked. I had no idea I needed to clean like this regularly. I was able to just vacuum my fan and get a lot of the cake off but it is still coated. I also cleaned the coil with the spray and rinsed it with a water spray bottle. It is working 100% better now but I am tempted to go a step further before the winter and get the cleaning hood and spray bottle to clean the fan fully. I actually tried to take my fan out and failed. I could not find the set screw. Mr Cool has a video on removing the fan motor but in their video there was a missing blade in the fan to access the set screw - mine did not seem to have a missing blade to insert a screwdriver, and I didn't see any set screw. So after partially removing the coil I just gave up and cleaned the fan through the same access hole you did. I think your method is essentially perfect.

This is an old comment but if you have an air compressor it really helps to uncake the blower wheel. Like 50-60psi with a blow gun will do wonders. Makes a mess. Definitely use eye protection and a face shield if you have one. I have to do it once every year or the blower is totally useless.

Hi Paul...Kevin Here Thanks for this informative video. One question. My same unit has a strange smell when off only .. soI called the company and she said to order Mad Tabs and clean the drain pad and put these self cleaning tablets in the pan. My question is. Do you know how to access and clean the pan and drain hole in the pan??? Just figured I'd ask you before taking it all apart now? Waiting on my tablets anyway. Thanks Very Much !!!!!😮😮
@paulethier3416
@paulethier3416 11 дней назад
Hi Kevin. The drain pan collects the condensation that comes off the coil. That condensation runs out of the drain hose. The tabs are likely to kill mold and to disinfect. I've not had to do that yet. The drain pan should be below the coil and behind the cage fan. Because the tabs are used for routine maintenance it should not be hard to find the pan. Sorry, I'm not that helpful, I'm self taught with most of this stuff.

@@paulethier3416 Hi Paul... A Big Thank You for your response and again for the videos I will watch it again as I start to disassemble and clean it... I installed the two inside units and one outside unit myself and I'm a Licensed Electricsl Contractor so I'm sure I'll find it as you say... I'm never afraid to ask questions though and I really appreciate YOU! Thanks again and stay COOL, MR.!!! LOL

Is this a 12, or 18k MrCool DIY? I have a 18 and also a 24k. Wish they’d make these things disassemble much easier. Seems like the blower wheel of the 18k unit I have which is in a bedroom gets way more junked up than the 24k unit that I have in my garage workshop where I grind carbon fiber constantly. The shop unit is mounted a foot higher than the 18k unit though.
@paulethier3416
@paulethier3416 Месяц назад
It’s a 24k unit with a single head.

Good video, but it would have been nice if you had given details about what you were doing step by step. Example, like taking the cover off, where the screws/tabs are, etc.

Thanks for commenting. I guess I just felt that there are so many different companies and units out there this is more of a generalization of how I clean mine.

How long did you let the coil cleaner sit before rinsing, and then sit again before turning back on? I don’t think I’m going to rinse out my inside unit, but I’m unsure of how long to wait before turning it all back on

I sprayed the coil cleaner on let it set for about five or 10 minutes and then rinse it with clean water. Both the inside coil and the outside coil.

Ours does not have a comfort mode but I put the fan on auto and it ramps up and down as needed to maintain temp. Its probably the same feature with a different name. Thanks for commenting.
