This video shows the best way to clean a glass cooktop. This should be the only way that you clean it. This method will help protect it from getting burnt rings around the burners and just plain looking dirty after years of use. The cooktop cleaner provides a protective coating on the cooktop to make it clean easier in the future.

I love glass stove top. It looks cool and my wife loves using them and cleaning them is much easier provided that you have the specific cleaner for it. I don't have to worry about the stuff getting spilled under the coil.

Just put in a new over the stove microwave and hood today, and after all that mess, this little video will really help me do a good job cleaning up the stovetop!

I haven't found it necessary to go through this much effort regularly,only when the stove gets abused by one of my many grease spills or pot boiling over events.That leaves food and oils burnt onto the surface. The advice in this video helped me get it looking new again. For everyday cleaning, I use hot water and a sponge, and a liquid stovetop cleaner if I want to get it just so.

Coming from someone who's owned a cleaning service for many years and has cleaned thousands of glass top stoves. Please do not use a green scotch brite scrub pad dry on your stove!!! That will surely scratch the hell out of your cooktop. If you wet them, and get one that's been used a bit, not a brand new one, it will take stains off of your cooktop. Also, I don't like the cooktop cleaners, it builds up and leaves a residue in the corners that's difficult to get off. If you have really bad stains on the cooktop, use Bar Keepers friend. The powder, not the liquid. If there are still some stuck on stains, a brand new razor blade works. But wet the surface with water or cleaner first!. Light stains can be removed with soft scrub. And for everyday cleaning, just use a non scratch scrub pad that's soapy, scrub it, wipe off with a washcloth, then use a bit of glass cleaner and clean with a dry cloth and it will look spotless.

Can't one just wipe it down with a soapy sponge? Also can one use bleach on it ( to kill germs or whiten it)
@redcyclone104
@redcyclone104 4 года назад
Correct you don't have to use an abrasive pad or even put any pressure on your applicator. If stains don't come off with cooktop cleaner, use a NEW razorblade like Amanda said in a sturdy tool. Go slow, glide it on the surface without pressure and use the cleaner as lubricant. Make straight runs with the razor. You'll feel the razor snag up the stains. When there's no more snagging you're done.

I love my glass cooktop. I have had one for 30 plus years. I clean as he does in the video but I use a cloth to clean the top and then the razor blade, when necessary. Best stove tops ever. As well, I have never had to replace a coil in them.
@phoneyjoe

This saved me a ton of aggravation. What I learned from this is that you can use an abrasive pad like the Scotchbrite, go to town on the surface with a razor blade (use it gently, angle it like so, and change it if you need to), and the decorative white rings don't come off. I use a cooktop cleaner, but paper towels and soft cloths kept me from removing stains from grease spills and pots boiling over. The difference is amazing.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! THANK YOU so much for the excellent instruction video! I was concerned that I would never get that burn ring off of my 1 year old glass cooktop and I just did exactly what you said to do and POOF...it's gone with little to no effort at all! So glad I found this video!

Thank you, watched a few and your video is the best. You had very clear instructions, so no one should have any questions. Just go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot, and in the Appliance Department where they sell the stoves, there should be a rack with ceramic tops cleaners so all you have to do is just pick one. ❝GREAT JOB BILL...‼️❞

Good idea with the blade...I have used a course steel wool pad and gotten a really caked stove top clean. If really bad, and burned in, I'll use Greased Lightning with either borax or baking soda scrubbing together. Its works wonders.

Good video ,, Just bought a new home and replaced all the appliances, we certainly didn't go cheap so to speak as I'm a great believer in " you get what you pay for ". The new range is wonderful, excellent result with the convection oven, as far as the cook top that's another story. Six weeks old and there is discolouration on one of the burners, this is not on the burner but in or under the glass. I also find regardless of method the glass top is difficult to clean. I've followed all recommended cleaning procedures and used only the recommended glass top cleaners ( Weiman's heavy duty glass top cleaner and Cerama Bryte ). If I had to do it all again I wouldn't purchase a slide in glass top range, certainly looks nice but too many cleaning issues.

+Dave Gourlay That is the problem if you want a more expensive electric stove with all the bell and whistles like convection oven they don't make them with the old style coil burners, recently we purchased one with a double oven and true convection and wanted one with the coil burners and was told at the box store that coil burners are only found on the least expensive models under $1K

+Dave Gourlay While this blog is belated, the same thing has happened to me: I bought a Bosch side-in / glass cook top, convection etc. very expensive , 2 yrs ago, & kept the top clean in suggested manner; 1 yr ago I noticed a black stain underneath the glass, it can't be removed & top probably will have to be completely replaced. Ironically it replaced a GE / glass top that NEVER had that problem.

I'm with you. Had I known of the problems with a glass top I wouldn't have bought one. Two weeks after I purchased a new stove the salt and pepper shakers fell out of the cabinet above the stove and put a hole in it and several cracks. New stove top is on order.

The stoves normally come with a green or yellow scotch brite pad from the factory. I have never seen a scotch brite pad scratch the top of a glass top stove. I've cleaned hundreds personally. And no shit you wouldn't use one on your car, unless the whole thing was made of glass. lol Thanks for Watching!

I just remodeled and bought new appliances. One of which is a glass top stove. I am so anal that I clean it after cooking every time. Staying on top of it like this keeps it looking good.I use a razor blade and a mr. clean pad and dish towel to whip it off.It's a pain but keeping the build up off at the time it occurs is the key.

Once you start the defrost cycle it should come out on its own after about 30 minutes. While in defrost you must leave the fridge control in the on position and of course the refrigerator plugged in. If the compressor and fan do not come back on after 30 minutes replace the timer, as long as the heater came on when you stuck it in defrost. Let me know how your making out.

I'm in the market for a new stove, and I'm swaying towards the traditional coil top. These glass tops just don't seem practical to me, but I'm a cynic. Do you like yours any better now?
@LigitandMeyers
@LigitandMeyers 10 лет назад
Archie Bunker Noooooo It boils water like no one's business...it burns everything. There is no low simmer. The AC can turn on, blow across the top of the stove and send the eye into postal over drive. The damn thing is silly. It uses induction to some extent and...lesson learned. it is BEAUTIFUL...a cosmetic work of art and I can stir fry like a mad man on it, but it is not practical for ANYTHING but over work. The convection,the heating, all top notch. VERY Efficient. Roasts take a good 45 minutes less to cook and I can use 350 for damn near anything and it will cook to perfection...unless it is a bread. Much like the stove, some things just do not go well. Cornbread is always over cooked on top and partially raw in the center when set on bake 375 ( If you cook CB, thats 50 lower than what it takes to cook it) All in all, go with the coil. My focus was energy savings and appearance and I have both of those. What I took for granted is what got me. This has no useful function in a kitchen that is used 2-3x/day 5-7 days a week I wish I had ran into me months back so I hope this will help you have a good one./

Well i just ordered a smoothtop...actually am a bit concerned but took the plunge anyway. A co-worker loves her's and she had it for years. I asked her about the cooking issues raised here and she said "that's non sense then they don't know how to cook on a smooth top"...apparently smoothtop heats up faster than coil. She also advised me to use stainless steel with a cooper core. I have read a bunch of reviews that seem to back this. So we shall see.

The product that this fellow is using is Weiman cook top cleaner. They also make several other products including a daily spray cleaner and finger print remover as well as nonabrasive - nonscratch pads made specifically for these ceramic/glass cooktops. Weiman products are sold at most retail stores including Walmart, Target, many hardware stores, Home Depot and some grocery stores and also on line at Amazon and even Ebay! It's a good specialized product. Really good stuff… it is made specifically for use on these cooktops. Regarding the razor blade device: I just installed my new Jenaire cook top and it came with a little complementary bottle of the creamy Weiman cleaner as well as a small single edge razor device. This device is simply a small single edge razor blade that slips into the handle to hold the blade with reasonable safety. In my tool box, the devices that are used (Again form any hardware store) are made by Stanley and another by Hyde. They are the commercial version of the one that was sent with the new Jenaire cooktop. If you are good with your hands, you don't really need the handle! No, unless you are completely non functional, you will NOT cut your fingers off! Hope this helps everyone who needs to know the products. By the way… I replaced my old 1988 electric "Hobs" with the new ceramic/glass cooktop and I already think it looks and cooks great! Mike

Looks like he's using the exact same stuff I use on my glass top stove which is Weiman (Glass Cook Top Heavy Duty Cleaner & Polish) and--you're right--according to their website they only sell in the USA and Canada. The bottle doesn't have an ingredients list and when you try to look it up on the website they'll only say that their product formulas are confidential. I did, however, find the cleaner on Amazon and I'm assuming they'll ship to EU so maybe you can get some there? Hope this helps!

Any razor blade scraper would be fine. Make sure you use a new blade. No need to press hard. Watch for scrapers that have a retractable blade. If you press too hard, the blade may retract and you'll hit the top with the scraper, that could scratch the top. Good Luck and Thanks for Watching!

Do not use a green scotch brite pad. This will put hundreds of thousands of hairline scratches in the surface. Use a washcloth or a sponge instead. What is not shown in this video is a somewhat close up of the range. I have the same stovetop and used a green scotchbrite pad and it scratched the hell out of the top of my stove. I used bar keepers friend as the cleaning agent.

No it won't, I've used much harsher scrub pads on the ceramic top and nothing puts the slightest scratch in it. Scotch Brite was made to scrub teflon pots and pans. If you can scrub teflon with it, there's NO WAY it can possible harm ceramic of any glass surface. Just never use a metal scouring pad of any kind.

If you don't have alot of scratches for the pots,You can also use baking powder and Vinegar,let it sit for a bit,then use a red Scotch brite fine pad alone with a razer blade to clean one up. If it has alot of scratches from your pots then you can try the cleaners to see if they will remove the scratches, if not you can wet sand the surface to get them out.

what is the name of the product/cream you're using? I have an all black glass cooktop stove that has 4 burners. My burners do not have the white ring placed by the manufacturer, it's completely black. However it has developed white smoky/cloudy rings around each burner in a circle, the rings look like they're under the glass. If I wipe it with water it gets dark but when it begins to dry the cloudy ring comes back...if anyone knows how to get rid of this let me know. It used to be just one burner did this but I had a cleaning crew show up to clean the house after smoke damage from a small kitchen fire & afterwards these rings are now on all the burners, very upset & no idea how to get rid of this problem,

I opened the back panel 2my top-mount 'fridge. I thought defrosting frzr would help. It did - for a week. Yesterday, I "tricked" the defrost timer, while it was plugged in. Ten min later, I decided to do another manual defrost & cut the power. After re-plugging, I tricked the timer again thinking unplugging the fridge would negate the first "trick". Question: Does unplugging the refrigerator affect me messing with the defrost timer a few min before? I'm afraid turning it twice was a bad thing.

@BillNewberry
@BillNewberry 8 лет назад
+Anna Maria Stepanovich I believe you used to get a scotch brite pad and a razor blade in the owners manual with a new glass top stove. If you are concerned about your stove because it's new just use a dry wash cloth with the cerama-bryte to apply the cleaner, then paper towel it to a shine. You'll find that your pans will be the ones that leave marks, not cleaning it. Let me know how you make out. Always use the cooktop cleaner, it's like waxing your car. The wax protects your paint, the cleaner protects your glass. I see alot of other "cleaning remedies", they may clean ok, but they won't protect.

***** Thanks for the advice, but what i would say is that for the person that doesn't need any extra projects, just do the Windex thing and your done. And the green Scotch Brite thing is fine. I actually have found that if you use absorbent towels w/ the Windex, you defeat the purpose. Use something like a Scrub Daddy or a Scotchbrite, or a scouring pad to loosen any oil or grime and it will actually float above any water layer of the Windex. Then hit it w/ a clean towel folded so you don't use the same oily part on the clean parts. This is the way to clean anything. Not just the Ceram stove tops. Hope it all works for you and please let me know what you're doing so i can help. Thanks for your response..............a

I don't think the protection can stand up to the heat when the burners are turned on. I certainly don't think using something else on the surface is going to hurt it. I would only warn against sliding a heavy pot or pan across the surface, as there may be a particle of something that may scratch the glass. It happened to me already. Otherwise i think you can pretty much do whatever you like. Also, i have had no trouble w/ Scotchbrite pads. We all take it easy w/ new things. After a while we get more realistic. It's human nature. All good. Good luck w/ it. I'm sure you'll be fine......a

Now hear this. I had my first glass top range almost 20 years. That approved liquid cleaning compound he is using here is abrasive. The razor blade will get off the burned on mess but be careful, if you hit it at the wrong angle and you will scratch the surface. Now back to the cleaner compound. I used it at first several times and low and behold, it took the white circles from the glass before I wised up and caught it. DO NOT PURCHASE OR USE THIS PRODUCT. IT WILL TAKE OFF THE BURNER MARKS. The surface is made of glass. When the range top cools to the touch, use WINDEX or your favorite glass cleaner. It is glass. One more thing. DO NOT put your dish rag on the surface. The dish rag has grease on it and you will put it on the surface and not be able to keep it clean. When I am cleaning my kitchen, I spray the top with glass cleaner and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes and then with a clean paper towel, wipe it off. Experience talking here.

Actually the computive technology is quadrified beyond expansion which will energate a bioquantum pioulard mass. This innovative design will be the future of mass life technology in the next triaxiom.

I used a straight edge kitchen knife at and angle and it scraped it off without a problem. Would be a lot easier than a razor because it is longer and covers more space. no razors needed

They aren't, if you use Bar Keeper's Friend Glass Stovetop Cleaner. Works a lot better than what he's doing. Put it on, wipe it off.

Komori Aimi Yes they are. Beautiful but if you want to keep it always beautiful you have to do all that work unless you don’t kook too much like myself.

The leftover cleaning material in the edge doesn't come out-I can get the top clean, but what about the edges?

I would never use a Scotch Brite pad; much too rough on the glass. And never use those white Mr Clean erasers either. Use the Weiman pad which is sold with Weiman cleaner. It's a red pad. I've had my stove over a year and I've found if you use the Weiman cooktop cleaner every time there's a minor spill you won't have to take these draconian measures. Clean up the spills every time. If you have a tougher spill apply the cleaner and leave it on for half an hour. Then wipe off. Apply the cooktop cleaner nearly every day whether it's dirty or not. The cleaner protects the stove top from new spills. It forms a barrier.

I tried this and I still have one burner, the one I use the most, that won't come clean. It's solid black in the center but the rest of it is speckled, which is the pattern on my stove. I used the cleaner/polisher and used the same green scrubber and the razor blade on it, to no avail. I guess I don't have enough muscle :(

You're afraid of using green, you can buy the BLUE scotch-brite pads at Canadian Tire, They're specifically meant for the glass and cheap ceramic.

We are not supposed to use razor blade on stove glass top, as per GE instructions. And we’re supposed to use a fine cleaning pad, not a coarse green pad.

Thanks for the tips..clean glass is snazzy but it can be a PIA..For really ugly Phillips heads I cut a groove with my Dremel then use a flat blade screw driver...whoever invented Phillips (John P. Thompson) should have invented one less to put it kindly..
