My instructor used a lot of your RU-vid videos in my auto classes in college. I’m glade your still making videos. I have a 2003 Toyota Camry V6 and my cars giving me problems with air flow. I replaced the MAF sensor, but I’m realizing the IAC valve is dirty and now I need to go back under the hood and clean everything. Thanks for the videos and spending your time to help others. ❤
Thank you! Very well done video. Especially the explanation at the beginning about how the throttle body and IAC work and the types of issues that result when they get dirty or fail. Very well done!!!
This video was awesome. Not sure if this is my problem yet, as I need to pull this open and take a look, but you were straight to the point and showed everything really well. Definitely earned a sub from me! Thanks again!
Yeah deff I have seen alot of mechanical video ..but from you sir I have learned alot ..and that's golden info for me..thanks dude !! Best videos hands down
Great video guy. I’m have some problems with my idle on my 1992 Dodge Ram50 pickup and it just might be the ISC valve. I’ll remove it and clean it. Thanks for a great informative video.
I'm glad that you do videos on vehicles other than 4 cylinders. I get sick of all these RU-vid mechanics who have 90% of their videos on the easy to work on 4 cylinder engines
Would be impressed if u have an answer to this one. Tata Indica SLi 2008 1400 Petrol. After a Clutch replacement that have nothing to do with the fuel injection system, I have the Following symptoms: Engine start first time but idle to High then after 10seconds go down to normal. When driving the engine runs perfect until you stop. The idle surge three times between 1000 and 2000 rpm then a last time to 3000, sometimes 3500 rpm then slowly goes down to normal and stay there. If I ref it up again it comes down to normal, but a little slow but not surging. But just drive 10 meters and same thing happens. I replace the Idle sensor with a new one, making it ever worse
step by step explanation how to clean a throttle body.. hope next time around show us how to clean a electronically controlled throttle body.. or kindly share to me how to open the gate/butterfly the best way by not damaging the calibration of the electronic control system .thanks . stay safe . God Bless
RatchetsAnd Wrenches Yes, I did move the throttle plate to clean it, as I wasn't aware of the potential problem you mentioned. But I haven't experienced any problems with the throttle since then.
Very helpful video, thanks. I did it without ever having done any repairs on any car. However, did not work for me. Also, had accidentally left the hose on the left side disconnected. Only noticed it after I drove around the block to check how the car was running. Any ideas if that has caused any damage?
That really makes no sense at all. Should I just throw out my electronically controlled throttle body because it's dirty? No I cleaned it and car runs good as new.
I just disconnected my throttle body and cleaned it without realizing the IAC was attached to it, I also disconnected the coolant lines going into the TB. They are currently plugged, but am I ok to drain the system of coolant while the TB is still removed from the car? Any issues to come when I need to bleed the system? Thanks.
Mahalo from Hawaii!!!! Very useful I will put it to use and hope for the best right now I am having problems with low idle as I come to a stop light with my air conditioning on it is a 2008 Toyota RAV4
just want to know that when the car is NOT idling and it is running over 4 rpm around 120 kilometers per hour speed so what would be the reading of IAC valve on OBD2? plz note that car is having Cable less electronic throttle body. my car shows IAC readings fluctuating during drive too, is it normal ? thanks. in advance.
thnx - very helpul. my '90 nissan d21 idles smoothly but way too fast. Can't find manual or any info on google/youtube. I believe k24e engine. However it's so old, i'm sure it can't be that hard to adjust if i had some info. Can u point me to some resources? there's 1 adjust screw on this gizmo with a REALLY ridiculously stiff spring that cams and stops the throttle from turning too far. And 1 adjust screw on the carb side next firewall.
Hi can you just what to do for rough idle issue on freelander 1 ? Does it has mass air flow sensor ? Or manifold air pressure ? Or anything else needs to be clean along with throttle body ?
carbon build up reduces the amount of air leaking around the throttle blade requiring the idle air control valve to open farther.. this limits the amount of idle control ability the idle air control valve now has... so it might not be able to open far enough to maintain idle speed at all conditions.. normal idle air control is 20 to 50 steps back with the engine warmed up. cold start would be 80 to 90 steps back.. these usually have about 115 steps max..
Hey Ratchets and Wrenches thanks for all of your help. Your videos are awesome. I have a 93 civic that's been idle surging occasionally. I removed the throttle body to check it out. I also found some small cracks on three different vacuum hoses that all connect to the throttle body. The plunger on the idle air control valve does not seal all the way when resting. Could this mess with an idle surge or could it just be a leaky vacuum hose? The IAC is a pretty expensive piece so I'm hoping it isn't the problem.
also, it usually idles fine on a cold start. Also, when you press the brake pedal or move the steering wheel while idling it can cause it to start surging a little bit. And both of those use vacuum.
Gasket from my iac got sucked into my throttle body, my truck is choking for air now I have a rough idle and black smoke from my exhaust and I have no idea where to check for for the clog the vehicle is a 96 nissian hardbody
Hi I amazed with your DIY video, I just have a question maybe you can help me. I clean my throttle body using WD-40. when I start my engine suddenly the check engine appear and the engine vibrating ang losing power. I think the WD-40 reached the engine. what do you think the WD-40 caused the problem? I know you can help me, please give me advise thank you!
Just open it back up and use throttle body cleaner. It doesn't leave a residue like wd 40 will. Run the motor for a while and it should clean it all out. Just drive it on the highway.
I noticed that i can't keep a steady rpm when my car is in park or neutral, after watching this video I'm suspecting it might be related to this, any thoughts?
sam one can halp me plees I have mitsubishi lancer 2004 model and I need halp from a good mechanic advice my Wats ap naber is 00923016642456 plees contect me
1999 dodge Durango. Code p 0505. I replaced the IAC and now it does not start. It idles low and dies if I spray carburator cleaner. Other then that it does not start. I have no clue what is going on.
Hey man I have a 2006 Hyundai tiburon GT V6 and it's giving me a code saying to replace the IAC. Could this be because I did an engine swap? And will cleaning the throttle and IAC fix it or do I have to replace it no matter what? The car runs and drives fine, revolutions aren't high or low and I don't have a sticky gas pedal. The only thing is that I do hear a small vacuum sucking noise when I turn on the car then it goes away after 10min of driving. I would highly appreciate your help before I go and buy the part which is $150. Also I did go over a small side walk two days before the code came on, could something be lose or did I mess up the IAC?
My car is a 2000 olds intrigue. Recently I noticed it has a high idle jumps from 700 up to 1200 and even up to 1500_2500 on occasion , especially when I put it in neutral and then park . Then feels like it "sails", ? Gotta press really hard on brake to keep car from moving . Anyhow, do you think the iacv could be stuck or failing , or anything else I should consider?
Have a question. I'm diagnosing a 2000 Infiniti i30 with a p0505 code set. The symptoms are as follows. Vehicle stalls right after starting. Vehicle will stay running when depressong on the gas pedal on crank. After that it stays on and drives perfectly fine. No stalling at stop signs or red lights. The idle is @550rpm. Any advice on where to begin first?
My cars doing the exact same thing. I took it to AutoZone and had them run a check. They said it was a bad idle air control valve. Cost 200$ for the part
I double checked everything and it turned out that the intake tubing that goes directly to the Mass Air Flow Sensor wasn't connected properly. I took out the MAF and cleaned the sensor and the IAC Sensor. Car starts right up like regular now. Still have the code set but I'm sure it needs a deep cleaning.
I changed the throttle body of my toyota yaris 2000 1.0 vvti But i am facing vibration issue in my car, can you plz help me out that what is the issue. . . .?
Hi, what would be the problem if the car is idling and ac is on.. when the ac is on the rpm is normal and when the ac cut off the rpm increase to 1500 then when ac cut in again the rpm goes back to 1100 rpm
Just wondering, I tried to follow this video and removed the air filter and cover and inlet and on the other end was the turbo not the throttle body. Where is the throttle body on a 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2L Turbo Diesel ?
First thing to locate. Air filter box, but what if you dont have a air filter box anymore and the filter is located behind the front bumper now and so you have to take your entire front end apart to see the filter without taking it out of the vehicle
My car acceralate on its own at the start when you go to D and after first few stops, it wants to acceralete on its own on stops. After awhile of driving, it will only acceralerate to certain high rpm while at stop.
Thanks. It would have been useful to see more clearly how much the IAC is supposed to actuate in order to determine when the IAC needs to be replaced (vs. just cleaned).
Do yourself a favour and subscribe to his channel if are watching his videos for the first time. His videos are always to the point and easy to follow that are explained in a logical and diagnostic manner.
Have 94 ram 1500 5.2l with 5speed manual trans and in second gear starting from dead stop it wants to some what kind stall with a bit of a dieseling affect. cleaned throttle body and replaced IAC
sometimes when i press the throttle pedal i neutral it doesn't keep the rpm steady for example at 2000. Insteady it keeps going till it reaches 4000. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I have an eletronic throttle body, no cable. When the car is rolling it does not have any problems.
Hello sir, is the air filter of your montero fits in mitsubishi freeca? Also kindly advise what kind of oil filter for my freeca 4g63a gasoline engine. Thank you very much.
+Totalpckge Depends on your setup, but if you see any carbon deposits anywhere around the valve itself make sure you clean it off, but its even more important to clean the passages where the air travels from one side to the other. GL
