We can't thank you enough for posting this video. removed and cleaned up our throttle body with no issues and great confidence. Finally got my check engine light to go off . Prior to viewing your video we had bought a new gas cap, new maf sensor, new air filter and putting catalytic cleaner in the gas tank...nothing worked until we tried this.

All of the info in this video is good, but a word of warning, your throttle body may not relearn the idle no matter what you do. I cleaned the throttle body on my wifes 2012 Yukon last weekend. After 5 or more attempts at the idle re-learn, and driving at highway speeds for over 100 miles, it is going to the dealership to have the idle recalibrated. I unhooked the wiring to the throttle body as well as the negative cable prior to moving the butterfly. It made no difference. As soon as it started it went to 3000 RPM and stayed there. If you DIY this, have a backup plan, because until about the third try at a relearn, my vehicle was not even driveable. At 3000 RPM you cannot safely drop it from park to drive. As for now, it idles fairly normal in park most of the time, as well as in drive, if your foot is on the brake. When you release the brake the truck accelerates on its own to about 20 mph and pushing the brake makes you fight the throttle until it stops, then idle goes to normal. The way he shows in this video to never manually move the TPS butterfly is a much better bet. I was told if the battery and wiring is unhooked, the TPS never knows the difference if you move it. Evidently it does.

Great video, but you have to manually move the butterfly out of the way in order to get the throttle body thoroughly cleaned. As long as it's not connected, it will never know it was moved. If it was severely gunked up with soot and oil on the inner side, the rpms may shoot up to 3000 or it may go into limp mode after being cleaned. After putting everything back together, turn the vehicle on for 3 mins then turn it off and repeat until the rpms return to normal, you may also have to take it out for a drive above 40 mph for a while. This happens because the throttle body is relearning the factory positions.

Is it safe to drive it while it’s revving?

Yuri polkavich is there any cheap scan tool that could make a relearn or recalibration for the throttle ?? I think it’s better than slam the gear while revving , could ruin the transmission
@yuripolkavich7469
@yuripolkavich7469 3 года назад
@@TTURKI I'm sure there is a computer that plugs to the OBD2 that will reset the throttle body, but I'm not aware of any inexpensive options. The throttle body should relearn on its own.

After cleaning. My Tahoe goes to 3000 RPM ! and not goes down. I switch the car off. Then disconnect the battery for 24 hours. Then I reconnect the battery and start the car. It goes to 3000 RPM and after 3 minutes goes down to 500 RPM. I switch it off for 1 minute then start it again for 3 minutes. then off and on and start drive over 80 Km/h at different speeds. Then everything goes well. I found that the car used to do something call self learning to adjust the throttle position and sometime you need to go to the dealer to reprogram the car !. I did this and solve my problem for free and it may help someone facing same problem and I found that this method works for other cars such as Silverado and others.

MARWAN AL-ALI Replaced my TB idles high now won’t come down. Likely going to need to do a reset on Tb with a scanner that’s capable. Tech 2 at a dealer is probably best bet. My advice do not disconnect the Throttle body it’s a pita to get the idle correct

So isn’t the most important part to clean is where the butterfly valve and throttle body touch? And it makes sense to me that if u did clean it, you should want to reset the computer otherwise it’s gonna think it’s still dirty... right?
@FromthaRoots4
@FromthaRoots4 2 года назад
The way he did it. It's the save you the trouble of reprogramming some people don't have the diagnostic OB2 TOOL. To reset this. Which means now you gotta go buy one or pay a mechanic to reset it for you.. I didn't move the butterfly valve But I sprayed throttle body cleaner straight to it whipped it sprayed again the spray actually helps the dirt to disolve away I just let it dry while I installed some other stuff on the truck. There are a couple different ways to clean it but this way is the clean and neat way it ensures you don't get dirt or cleaner on any other parts of the vehicle

I think you did wayyyy too much extra work. I just detach the intake from the throttle body, turn the key in the on position, do not start the truck, have someone hold down the gas peddle to open the throttle valve, or use a pipe or stick against the seat if by yourself and clean the throttle body, spray it all inside, and make sure you clean the edges where it makes a seal , i use a clean , old sock on my hand instead of paper towels because paper towels can easily break off , rip, after it's all clean, put everything back together, release the gas pedal, start the truck. at 1st it will be hard to start, but it will start, no problem. been owning gm trucks for over 15 yrs. never had a problem doing it this way. way easier than removing all that stuff. And no , i do not disconnect the battery. u need the battery connected so you can open the throttle valve when you press on the gas pedal.

I would have pretty much made the same critique.
@rohensratchets
@rohensratchets 6 лет назад
Yes this another valid way of doing it. However, you could still run the risk of having a short by leaving the battery connected while spraying in the engine or run the risk of damaging the throttle position sensor with liquid getting into it. Also, your way would also probably lead to having to do an idle reset after cleaning which would add more time. Better to just do it the proper way and not be lazy about it.
@platinumtaxik1
@platinumtaxik1 6 лет назад
RohensRatchets Never had to reset anything , never ruined anything doing it the way i explained. Nothing lazy about not taking half of your engine apart if it isn't necessary. Like i said , I've done this 15 plus years on suburbans , now on a 2012 yukon denali , never had a problem. Just saying the way it's worked for me without any problems at all. If somebody wants to take all those parts off to clean their throttle body , more power to them. It's a good video , not knocking the video , I'm sure it helped alot of people , just from my past experience i know that is way too much unnecessary work in my opinion considering the way I've done it many times I've had absolutely zero problems. And the only time you have to do a idle reset is when you open the throttle body valve by hand , as long as you open it using the gas pedal no reset needed obviously , or you'd be resetting it every time you drive.

W Baluch Chevy recommends the rear differential at 100,000, transmission fluid/filter at 100,000, and spark plugs at 100,000. However, I personally do the differential every 50,000. Transmission fluid every 50,000. transmission filter every 100,000. Spark Plugs every 100,000

That's not cleaning it properly, the most important part to clean is around the edge where the blade (butterfly) seals. I have done hundreds of these and just pushed them open and cleaned everything thoroughly and put it back. It will relearn itself in minutes.
