One of the things I've found works really good is foaming glass cleaner. It grabs all the dirt from the nooks and crannies without having to disassemble anything or use tiny brushes.
that looks brand new, it doesn't need to be cleaned. after 1 hour of my 8 yr old son driving his there wasn't a spot on the truck that didn't have mud on it.
I personally DO NOT recommend WD-40. It is designed to remove oil, grease and rust. If used on the wheel bushings or bearings, it will break down oil (bushings) or grease (bearings) that will cause them to run bone dry, and cause damage. A lot of people think its a lubricant, but its not. If you use it, make sure you apply lubricate on whatever you use it on. I, personally, would like to think that Traxxas Support would know better than that. I've known for 30 years what WD-40 is.
You guys should mention to tape over holes in rims to prevent water from entering into the foam as to not rot the foam . And also unbalance the tires washing tires and rims 😀😀
Yeah, this is actually a major issue, as even a little water will unbalance the tire. And getting that water back out is a real problem unless you remove the tire from the wheel. Some people will leave those holes taped, because they often drive in damp areas, or want to reduce the tire ballooning.
Sand is kryptonite for R/C cars. I never run mine anywhere near the beach for that reason. It's far worse than gravel or dirt. The only real way to get sand out of an R/C car is to strip the entire thing down to individual parts and wash them all thoroughly. If the sand has any salt in it, you may have to replace bearings as well.
I might be wrong but shouldn’t you rinse the body off first and get most of the debris off first and then scrub it down instead of agitating the dirt and rubbing it all over the body
When i get halfway through the woods by me, i just dunk it in the river a few times to get the mud off😂 probably not the best, but i haven't had any problems
Do NOT put water anywhere near those tires unless the wheel holes are taped. On my X Maxx I have them taped and the tires vented. And even then I don't bother cleaning them much. Lately I mostly use an air compressor for most cleaning.
The video, and comments are rather helpful. I just got my first hobby grade car today. It's a Traxxas La Trax Tetan, and so far I am extremely pleased with it.
its not ruining them, wd40 prevents rust and works as a lubricator cleaner*, its not acid then reapply lubricant later forgot to mention that thnx whoever liked my comment and reminded me
@Name If you read my comment properly you would have understood what I meant, WD40 is used to remove lubricant and reapplying it later. Traxxas does mislead alot, sure. but in this video they didn't do it on purpose, atleast doesn't look like it.
I start with a hose down to soften any dried on dirt/debris. Let it sit a couple of minutes. Then hit it with higher pressure, from the tap not a pressure washer, just jet spray from the hose(avoiding fans/motor/reciever/gearbox seams for the most part). Wipe with hand while rinsing to remove anything that remains. Dry with compressed air(avoid spinning up the fans with air). Done. You don't need 20 brushes and cleaners and 3hrs. Just a few minutes and a garden hose and some air. I own an xmaxx with a max 5 esc and leopard 56110 950kv motor.
Note to traxxas owners: if you spay wd40 on a plastic parts the plastic will absorb the wd40 and make the plastic flex more so the rc car will be more durable. I got the idea from Kevin Talbot
@@talonvaughn6175 i just bought my first slash, and i'm anxious to get it dirty cuz idk if i have the right supplies to clean it. i'm a lil scared to take it apart at all, and idk if the bearings are shielded or open. how do i make sure i don't ruin certain components with wrong cleaning supplies? (mainly cuz i've been seein loads of different opinions.)
Simple version: Tape over tire vent holes, hose off the truck (Body off) with a jet nozzle on garden hose, dry out with compressed air, then WD-40 on the bearings if needed. Clean the body separately (If needed) and be sure you have a waterproof truck
I use Meguires Gold Class car shampoo conditioner for all my Rc bodies. And use a Series of brushes with the same soap. Then use compressed air. And microfiber towel. To dry all the parts Last i use a Vinlex on plastic parts.
Do you need to take off any other components to clean the truck besides(body/wheels)? I got a E revo2.0 and I’m trying to clean it but not quit sure how
@@repeatedrl558 it will ruin your truck. Water causes corrosion! Even if you dry the water seeps into bearings, diffs, driveshafts, screws will get rust and be weakened therefore stripping etc.
I put my Summit in the bathtub with the body still attached and give it a shower. Everything under the body I do by hand if it's really dirty. Cleaning an rc car shouldn't be a long process.
Johnovan Dupper so what, I get an rc car to bash and have fun, not to have it be a shelf queen. I don’t care if the thing is 90% rust, as long as I’m having fun I don’t care what condition the rc car is in
I am a bit too scared to soak my Tyre's like that... I just think it would soak the foam inside the Tyre and unbalance it if water gets into the air hole.
2:05 I wouldn’t recommend you hosing down your RC car even if it says “waterproof”. Did this with my maxx and it completely fried my servo as well as my receiver. They were all fully sealed and bolts hand tightened.
When should I clean my RC? I do not have a Traxxas, but these videos are helpful with my ECX(sorry Traxxas). My ECX AMP is much cheaper than Traxxas vehicles,I wish I got a Traxxas RC but it was too expensive, but anyways, when should I clean my RC? Daily? Once a week? Once a month? I use my RC at least 2 times per 2 weeks. Thank you.
luckely i upgraded my slash xmaxx and e revo with stainless steel and around every week or two i put fresh oil everywhere do no problem i have the e revo since it came out i never had to change any gear or bearing
Does anyone else recommend anything else that should be done for cleaning? I'm looking to get a 4x4 Stampede so any other tips and tricks on cleaning would be appreciated.
what grease are you using on the RC box and is if different from the gear grease, ive been using the WD-40 Water Resistant Silicone not the regular on my bearings
I would only use WD-40 is your rubbing it on some metal shafts or something. I mainly use this stuff called CRC Heavy Duty Silicone. It stops rust, waterproofs, and protects. Along with removing squeaks. Otherwise I thought this was a very good video. I'm really liking these types of videos.
Andres Huglee but is waterproof you can wash it as in the video mine is a Stampede 4x4 vxl and my friend has a Stampede 4x4 brushed they're dirty and we did in the video execept we used a bearing oil for skates and I was thinking about not damaging his car but he said is waterproof.
Thank you Traxxas. I will take great Care of my new Gal. I will keep her clean and happy. Koodos 👊😎 I do need to learn all this stuff even cleaning care methods. ✌️
Yea all good but the on/off switch on the esc is not waterproof. Two e revo s and they had the same issue going off and randonly on without touching it.
Traxxas support, could I have some kind of advice on my problem? I have a Traxxas Slash 4x4, and every time I go out and drive it in the street, it gets extremely dirty because of the place I live in, all the grass, mud, small sticks and sand get trapped under the engine and other parts and it's very hard to clean it. I have to shower my car after every run for about 30 mins just to make it clean, because I think that driving a car that is so dirty will make its life shorter as all the dirt gets inside the mechanisms. I have my Slash for about a week and I'm already so tired of all this stuff, plus all the bolts are a bit rusty, even though I use WD-40 after every shower. Should I continue showering it like that or be less worried or anything else?
Sounds like you are doing well with the maintenance. Dry it thoroughly after using water to clean and wipe away any excess WD-40. Electric motor cleaner can be applied to the motor after every 10 runs or so. We would recommend replacing any rusted hardware. with my nitro i just spray it with degreaser and then air compress it and it works pretty well and looks clean untill i look at it from a different angle
It being waterproof is pretty self explanatory just spray it with the hose throuoly, hit it with an air compressor throuoly. Some people will say oh your bearings this, gears that, your gonna rot your foams. To which I would say I put tape on the vent holes to keep water out, and when I say "hit it with an air compressor throuoly" I mean THROUOLY. Im pretty religious with my air compressor.
So literally you spend more on cleaning than racing :) I think a quick water/compressor combo will be enough. I've never deep cleaned my Savage for last 10 years and still running.
The ESC is waterproof. The issue is that u didn't clean your motor after running it through water. Brushed motors aren't "waterproof" however they do run under water. After running a Brushed motor under water you need to dry it off and blow out the water with compressed air, then you need to oil the bushings with bearing oil like 3 in 1 or Turbine Lubricating Oil (not penetrating oil, WD 40 isn't a high-speed lubricant). Running a Brushed motor like the Titan or any high revving Brushed motor under water is kinda dumb because it causes the brushes to wear away much faster.
A hose will work, but a pressure nozzle can really help when the dirt is caked on. Always be sure the receiver is removed or the receiver box has a proper watertight seal.
WD-40 Specialist® Degreaser Contains a proprietary industrial-strength solvent that quickly breaks down grease In farming we don't use wd40 is it safe for rc. For now I'll use greasers.
I have run a Honcho for 12 months as a submarine, using only Water Displacement-40 in all the bearings. After I cleaned out all the factory grease. After a full year of running 3S and water with only the WD-40 as bearing lubricant, I will only use WD-40 on my Radio Controlled Vehicles !!! & I have been playing RC Car's since 1976... Different strokes for different folks. . . What seems to work great for some, doesn't always work for others. And rubbing all that nasty around on that lexan body, should be a crime !!! At least rinse it off first ;)
PS: Fish Oil is pretty awesome and will definitely break down the grease in any bearings it's been applied to !!! just remember to keep using it, and also if you apply it before the run. Anything that sticks to the WD-40 will rinse right back off, it's pretty awesome stuff !!! ;}
Using WD-40 and a q-tip, on your rusty screws. Will remove the rust, with the exception of you letting the rust get to far advanced. Alway better to take care of the screws after the Shower and compressed air...
Yes you can replace the original transmitter and receiver with the TQi radio system. For most 2-channel models (those with only steering and throttle) this is the system you would need: traxxas.com/products/parts/transmitters/6509Rtqitraxxaslink2ch Call us at 1-888-TRAXXAS to ask about the right radio system for your model and ask about the Power Up trade-in program.
