Pro tip for applying wax to nubuck... Use a very gentle heat once applied and it evens out and absorbs in tk the leather. Doesn't need to be a high heat

Good Sir, I too find it therapeutic to clean and treat hiking boots. I have been using dubbin on fairly cheap Hitec leather boots, they are about 15 years old now and I use them in the summer. I have a newer pair of same for winter wetness. Each pair get dubbined before they come out for the season. Before I dubbin them I polish them with brown shoe polish. Kind regards.

Just like I explained I think... Or did I not mention this? I am not sure anymore... Just fill them will handwarm water. Let is sit, shake a bit after a while. This will get rid of sweet and salt residu. Get the water out, dry with a towel and let the dry further just by air. NO HEAT!. After this they will be fresh again. If you like you can use a spray to get a nice odor in the shoes. Like Grangers Oder Eliminator or Polygiene Odor Crunch. I hope this helps! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 3 года назад
Hi Marco, Yes it does get in your boots and with a leather inside you can give it a cleaning with a mild damp luke warm rag. Treat the leather afterwards with wax. If you have Gore-tex lined boots just fill them with luke warm water and shake it around and let is sit for a small while. Poor out the water and repeat if needed. Let the shoes dry by air and paper inside to absorb the moisture. Change frequently. I'll do a video on cleaning Gore-tex later ;-). I hope this helps. Cheers, Gijs

As Colonil Bamboo Lotion is better for leather and all other material than any Kind of soap, better treat shoes with membrane-tech inside with Colonil Bamboo Lotion. Is also good for leather lining. Kamil, no problem! Just clean them when they are still wet. With luke warm water and a brush. Dry them ruffly with a towel and then let them dry. Will take a day or two maybe. After that the rest of the maintenance. Where are you from?

Enjoy the outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Hi! Great video. How do you clean the inside leather lining of your hiking boots? Mine are pretty darkened by sweat and dust, and I wonder which way is the best to clean and make them look fresh again?

Hi Claus, difficult to answer since some leathers react different. In general just wash them with luke warm water and let them dry without adding heat. Some manufacturers advice to use a special cleaning 'detergent' that also refreshens the 'smell'. What brand and type of boots? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Hi Claus, Sorry for the late reply, had to sort some own 'problems'. Hanwag, just clean like I wrote. Most I learned came from a Hanwag agent and he is a true shoeguru 😉 extra-ordinaire. He is the one who learned me how to take care of boots also the leather lined ones. After drying you can treat the leather with a very light layer beeswax and give it some time to feed the leather otherwise you sox will turn out a bit waxy. Have fun cleaning them! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 2 года назад
@thomasvn
@thomasvn 2 года назад

Never use bee wax. It clogs up the pores of the shoe doesn't breathe and the wax will attract/form gunk. Even in dress shoes you only apply it to the tip. Instead use a impregnation spay.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 3 года назад
Sorry West, You are sort of wrong here. Most people use wax in very thick layers and then you are right. If used in the correct way it feeds the leather and does not clog the pores. Like sunscreen does not block the pores in our skin. Impregnations spray is a safe option for sure. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews It doesn't disappear unless you remove it with acetone each time before you apply a new coat. Like I said, even with dress shoes you apply it only on the toe area because it's gunks up, no matter how little you apply. That's why shoe manufacturers recommend only shoe cream that has oil instead of wax because that reconditions the leather. Wax was used back in the day for waterproofing when there wasn't impregnation spay. Manufacturers advise to use leather cream and then impregnation spray before the cream fully dries out or many manufacturers suggest only using the spray. Lokk it up. Also one more important thing is to not to apply the oil or cream too thick in general because it will soak/clog the membrane and not too close and not to much close to the sole because it will unglue the sole.

Hi West, Thanks again for the feedback! For the articles I write about shoes already for a long time for outdoor magazines and now for my own stuff I contact the experts from shoe brands like Meindl, Lowa, Hanwag etc and apparently they tell me a different story then they tell you. Before shooting the vid I contacted the Grand Master in shoe business over here - Gerard Evers - about this and he just confirmed the beeswax and I have no reason the doubt him. But I do agree on old days versus new days, new methods are good too but also be aware that most manufacturers have their own maintenance stuff or deals with manufacturers so there is a commercial reason too. That said... a lot of those brands have beeswax in the collection and advice it. For (partly) synthetic shoes... that is a different ballgame and also for breathable fabrics. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

I guess you must be German? It’s not the accent that makes me think this it’s the 7 different brushes and a 23 minute video on how to clean your walking boots. Dude we don’t have 2 hours to clean our boots. Lol. This seems OTT. I get mine, blast them with the shower head to get the mud off, brush them with one brush, rinse again and then add the nikwax. 5 min job.
