Tutorial how to clean Mass Air Flow Sensor bosch, siemens... with contact cleaning fluid WD40 CRC. Failures, location and symptoms, lack of power, jumps the turbo afternoon, higher fuel consumption to measure more and do not do well the combustion mixture. If you do not mark error or enter protection, the most likely thing is that nothing happens ... but maybe a slight increase in consumption or worsen a little in low. It may have an irregular idle. Here I show the location of the sensor that is the same or similar in all types of engines and car brands.
What is the MAF sensor?
The MAF sensor is a sensor that goes between the air filter case and the acceleration body. It consists of a heating element which measures the mass of air entering the engine.
It contains inside resistance or fine platinum wire, which is known as hot wire and this approaches a temperature of 200 ° C at the time the engine works. The value of this resistance changes due to cooling, when the air is admitted by the intake manifold according to the load of the engine. A large amount of air at the inlet represents acceleration and conversely a small amount of air mass indicates deceleration or idle.
This sensor calculates the amount of air entering the engine and in this way the Engine Control Unit (ECU) will know the amount of fuel that will be distributed to the injectors.
That sensor may eventually trap dirt and therefore not transmit the information correctly, and therefore does not perform the job as expected. Although the intake circuit has an air filter before the Air Mass Flow Sensor (MAF), it is possible that an element will also leak and enter the hot wire. When values outside the established specifications are recorded, it is likely that the motor loses force or a diagnostic code is established.
Contaminants that impair the functioning of the MAF Sensor:
The sensor element is very sensitive to any contamination including PCV system oil vapor, dust and moisture etc. The engine air filter is the first sensor protector.
CLEANING:
Anti-sulfated spray for cleaning electrical contacts that is obtained in any spare parts store. Apply the liquid over the entire wire and remember not to touch it with your hand.
It does not hurt to take advantage of passing a clean cloth inside the air pipe, it may have dust, oil particles or leaf residues, etc. Mount everything in its place and do not forget to reconnect the sensor.
SOLUTIONS:
Check that the harness is not rusted, cracked or sulfated. In this case, you can apply an antisulfatante cleaner in the terminals.
Check that the sensor cables that go to the computer are not damaged, if necessary, you must replace them.
Verify that the sensor as such does not have dirt such as leaves, insects, dust, etc. You must clean it in this case, but do not blow it or touch it.
Sometimes, it is necessary to completely change the sensor, for example when the platinum wire is broken.
