Excellent tear down, very helpful in boosting my confidence that I was using the right techniques to pull apart my overheating PS3. It has sentimental value, it was the first gift my wife gave to me after we married. I'm hoping to be able to keep it running for a long time.

A massive thank you. I followed your guide and a bunch of others and to great success. Took me a total of 4h50m, because I forgot a piece and couldn't understand immediately where the part was coming from. Also my console froze, but as I understood later it was due to a faulty Blu-ray disk and not my poor assembly. Anyway, it was easy to understand and was great fun to follow.

@uFixTek
@uFixTek Год назад
PULL STRAIGHT UP , it will release it self, the retaining clip its not biting on the flex it won't damage the flexor! we open so many and never ever had issue with it. but if you want to fight with it and find a way to stick your finger under and not damage the flex and pull the clip out..sure do it. but there is no way in hell you can damage the flexor by pulling it straight.

I watched your video and was very thankful, did all the steps like you did. Got 2 screws now that i cant remember where they came from, but the overheating is a bit less now. Then i watched another video and saw that you can open the CPU and GPU even more. The silver thing is just a "safety cap". Beneath is more heat compound that could be old. At least that is what i saw in that video from Nsc. Might be important to change that paste too.
@uFixTek
@uFixTek 3 года назад
Thank you for the feedback and your support and regarding the "thing" its not too important and if you wish you can replace the it. i don't remove the IHS because its too risky for the viewers to do so and they can really damage the cpu or gpu, and we have done many many test and the difference are: if you replace the IHS thermal compound you will only get 3c extra temp drop! (not worth it not even a bit)

Thanks for an excellent guide! My PS3 still won't start, but having gone through this process I can now be pretty sure it's a power supply issue so I've ordered one from eBay. Interestingly, my CECH-2002A model was slightly different in a few places; only three tamper-proof screws along the front side instead of four, the wi-fi and BT antennas are routed over top of the DVD instead of underneath, and notably the DVD-ROM ribbon cable was moved to the rear of the unit, making assembly much easier.

lol Jesus who said some can melt and destroy i been in service for over 15 years not even a single motherboard failure because of paste melting lol , all you need to know regarding thermal paste is to use google and or get the recommended brands, dont go with china crap paste or some pure silver ash. go with artic silver 5 , artic mx 4, or one of the best pastes is amzn.to/32KLvWs (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) this is one of the top of the line, if you want to go better you have to go Liquid metal and that is only for gpus.
