Hi guys, it is Friday and that means time for another DIY tutorial. Since the summer has come to end and I was putting away my summer shoes I thought I would show you how I get my old shoes to look like new shoes. I believe it is better to keep good care of your shoes instead of having to buy new ones every year, because they look so dirty and used after a year of use. In this tutorial I am cleaning my bright yellow converse shoes, but this tutorial applies to all kind of shoes, like other canvas shoes, sneakers, and even fake leather shoes (tried on my white fake leather shoes and they look like brand new). Also to clean your old converse or canvas shoes you dont even need any fancy cleaning products, just something you probably already have at home, dishwasher soap (liquid) and baking soda. Sounds unbeliavable? It isn´t! But I have to tell you, you might be really surprised by the result at the end. For some extra tips and details on how to clean your converse or other canvas shoes with soap and baking soda please make sure to check below (these are not mentioned in the video).
TIPS.
1. You really really need to stuff your shoes with some cloth before cleaning them! This ensures that you dont soak the bottom of the shoe, which will be difficult to dry and might also ruin the shoes.
2. Once you start cleaning with warm water make sure to dry the excess water and soap once in a while.
3. You will get most of the soap of the shoes once you clean with warm water, but you can wipe it off with some wet cloth and after dry cloth. Dont worry if you will have some soap left on the shoe, mine were absolutely fine and not sticky after drying.
4. I was using an old toothbrush, but probably a new one would work even better.
5. I washed the shoelaces separately first with the same soap and baking soda mix and then with some toothpaste as there were some spots I couldnt get clean.
6. If the canvas part of your shoes is not very dirty you can refreshen the look of your shoes with just cleaning the white rubber parts and wash or change your shoe laces and that will already make a big difference.
7. Dry the shoes close to a radiator or in a very warm, dry place until they have completely dried. I dried mine under a radiator and they were completely dry in a day.
