Thanks for the time on this video and to share. I'm glad you covered this because I have several Zildjian A Customs and K Dark Customs... very different finishes and lots of warnings about many products that *might* be good for one but damaging to the other. Good to see you have confidence on that brilliant-finish as well as the K-traditional-finish. Cutting with water and an extra damp cloth makes sense. I'll feel better about trying this on my K's. Thanks, bro!
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 7 лет назад
You are welcome. Again like I said in the video, ya gotta be quick on the K's. The key is to buff as quickly as possible with the K's. Someone recently mentioned another polish they love so I tried it. Never again. But this method is amazing for A customs just please be thorough, especially at the edges.

Great stuff (but has a strong smell). I use this on my cymbals (& sometimes lemon juice if not too bad). As for my hardware & stands, I use Turtle Wax Chrome Polish/Rust Remover (Ace Hardware). That stuff is amazing. It wipes off rust like dirt, and polishes chrome/chrome plated stands & hardware to a gleam. Highly recommend.

Bar keeper friends main ingredient is Oxalic Acid. Groove Juice's main ingredient is Oxalic Acid. I just bought the Bar Keepers Friend liquid soft scrub and took my A Zildjian Medium Ride that I bought used and it was filthy for $100 cleaned it, using painters tape to cover the logos. Washed it in my bath tub and last step was dishwashing soap to make sure the BKF was fully rinsed off, and I kid you not, it looks brand new.
@KennySharretts

Hello Thereu Awesome! Yes Bar Keepers friend is a popular polish that people will use on cymbals. My fave cream/paste polishes are Zildjian’s Brilliant Polish (as it works pretty well on non custom A’s, and Music Nomad’s Cymbal Cleaner (which killed it on my K’s). That being said this tip’s intents were to cut the acidic polish with water so as to 1. Reduce the need to rinse the cymbal. As I said in the video, I don’t want to carry a whole set of cymbals to a dressing room/ janitorial station in the venue to rinse them. Then clean up the mess? Nope! Quick, and direct cleaning is my mode on the road. Lol! 2. Reduce the impact of the acid on your hands. I use gloves when cleaning, but the polish can still get on your hands, and eat them up. 3. as a tech I often have to clean cymbals with what the drummer i’m working for prefers. Therefore if one has a similar situation this tip might be helpful. Thank you for watching. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Thanks for the tip on diluting the groove juice with water! I always felt all cymbal cleaners are way too strong. I like that the groove juice is a spray but mixing it down with water made me comfortable enough to try it on my nice cymbals. I still rinsed heavily all my cymbals immediately in a big sink after, just to make sure. I used this on my a customs and k sweet cymbals. They look brand new again

Vaseline is the BEST cleaner. HANDS DOWN. I've bought them all. Vaseline: Not toxic or noxious. Doesn't ruin logos on Paragons or Paiste Signatures. Very easy to work with. Prevents oxidation if you leave a sheen.

From personal experience: Instead of using damp or wet towel to remove Groove Juice. Remove any excess with dry paper towel, and then spray WD-40 or any other similar product and use paper towel again. It completely removes Groove Juice and creates a protective coat.
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 7 лет назад
Well considering the petroleum/fish oil base of the Wd-40, that would make sense that it pushes all the water out of the grooves, and hopefully takes all the residue with it. May even put a nice short term protective coating on the cymbal.For me I'll keep the wet, and dry towels handy as I have enough chemicals in the process, but I will have to try this soon to see how it plays out on the cymbal. Thank you so much for watching.

I did the same method as you to clean my cymbals I have zildjian a series and they have a white haze on them and I clean them again and there was still a haze on them do you have any recommendations to get the haze off?
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 3 года назад
As I said in the video this is not the best polish for traditional finish cymbals. It works, but it can leave a haze if you do not thoroughly rinse them. Like scrub with a clean rag under water. You may also need to add a little more water to your mixture. This is basically an acid bath for cymbals. What I can recommend is 1. Add a little more water into the polish, then clean them again, but in smaller sections, and wipe quickly. Like buff that section right away, then rinse. then the next section, then rinse. That way you get the haze off. 2. Get some Music Nomad's Cymbal Cleaner. It's an old school style creme polish. Polish the cymbal in sections, and only use A LITTLE BIT at a time. Otherwise you will be buffing for days to get the haze of THIS polish off. This will set the cymbal back to basics of a clean look with no haze.

thats crazy Kenny.. I used to use groove juice but the slightest touch would absolutely kill the logos... does this way stop that? @KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 4 года назад
Exactly, and you still have to be careful around the logos. I use several polishes for my work. This was simply a trick to help make this one a more efficient, and less logo intrusive polish to use. Thx so much for watching as always my brother.

If I can't polish off the haze then I'll give them a rinse. The whole point of the video, however, is to not have to rinse. That's why I cut the polish with water, then rub down the cymbal with a wet cloth. That way the groove juice is not left on it. It's an acid bath, so again cutting it with water makes it a bit more functional. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the question. As most drummers doI tend NOT to clean my hand hammered cymbals unless they get "the green" on them. BE CAREFUL! This stuff seems pretty mild but be careful using internet DIY remedies: Catsup and Coca-cola, lemons and salt, Bar Keepers Friend, Brasso. If you plan on just selling them LEAVE THEM ALONE! My first time cleaning a set of vintage K's resulted in the 'K' wiping off and streaks and runs. I guess the lesson is maintain them from new with a mild product like this and you'll be fine. Trying to resurrect old cymbals is a lesson in futility. They will never be like new again and may even tarnish again is weird and terrible ways...
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 2 года назад
Absolutely appreciate your concern. As I state in the video, this polish really only works well with “brilliant” style cymbals, and even then if you are not careful it will strip your logos. That’s why I made the recommendation to cut this stuff with a bit of water. Easier clean, easier to clean around your logos without removing them. Which alas to some drummers is the most important part of the cymbal. 🤦‍♂️ In fact I mention specifically in the vid that this polish is meh on K’s. I have had great success, however, with Music Nomad’s Cymbal Cleaner. ESPECIALLY on my K’s which I keep clean for my video shoots. They all still have their logos, and look amazing. I think the problems you have had have been listening to people who say “use barkeepers friend or never dull” which are for bar rails, and motorcycles respectively. Much like Groove Juice they are a bit caustic to the cymbal, AND polishing over logos and expecting them to still be there. Any polish is going to be a bit caustic, and remove logos. I’ll roll with cymbal polish in a paste form like the old Zildjian creme, or Music Nomad’s as if you are careful with your logos these do the job well. Thank you for watching.

@BrettEvan
@BrettEvan 8 лет назад
i heard you shouldnt polish tradionals?
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 8 лет назад
+Brett Evan me too. The rule of thumb is to never clean Hand Hammered cymbals. They tend to sound better with dirt, and age. Some people feel the same way about traditional"A's". BUUUT 😆 when the greenie meanie tarnish shows up not only does it look terrible/rub off on your hands and clothes but it tends to let corrosion set in. That's never good for a cymbal. That's why I recommend cutting GJ with a little water. It can help remove the green stuff without getting ALL the muck out. In the end it also helpsremove the residual cleaner so it doesn't corrode the cymbal either. To me its all a matter of individual preference. BTW this works great on any "brilliant" cymbals which tend to be the ones my clients want polished.

I have groove juice and I've used it on my regular A series a few times and they look good for a week or so then they oxidize quite badly. What do you think I am doing wrong?
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 8 лет назад
+Hugh Schultz This is a common problem which led to me cutting the polish with water. If you do not wash off the cymbals with extreme care the polish remains, and the residue continues to work on the metal hence the "oxidization haze". My fave polish for Regular A's is still the old school Zildjian creme polish in a tube. I don't believe they make it anymore. With regular A's, and K's a more traditional creme polish works best. Paiste/Brasso. Just avoid your logos, and buff REALLY well. The new Zildjian Cymbal Polish is designed for Brilliants/A Customs and I don't know how it is for regular A's. Hmmnn, . . . You sir have inspired me to now research polishes to see what works best for what these days instead of relying on my deep stash of my fave products. Thank you very much, and please keep watching. New stuff coming really soon.
@hughschultz9089
