As your car ages and accumulates miles, you may notice a gradual performance degradation with your engine power, performance, and efficiency. You may experience poor engine idle, low mpg's, sluggish acceleration and engine knock. One of the culprits could be carbon accumulation that occur either in your combustion chamber, on the intake valves, and on the fuel injector tips. We'll show you a quick and easy way to remove these carbon deposits and build-up using a cleaning agent with an active ingredient called PEA.

Thanks for the vid. I would recommend avoiding use of the brake booster on GDI platforms as it may not allow the solvent to remain atomized before hitting the intake tract. In talking with CRC, they also strongly recommend the intake tract anywhere after the MAF. An optimum spot would be just before the TB, so the spray is distributed more evenly through the IM (and subsequent valves). Insert the straw between the couplings before the TB (taping if needed) to ensure no unmetered air gets through. Hope that helps.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 4 года назад
Thanks for your post! Really up to you where you want to introduce the solvent. I'd assume that at 2,000 rpm or higher the solvent would be getting sucked in too fast to lose its atomized status. BTW - The whole purpose of this exercise is to remove carbon: from the intake valve bulb; around the tip of the fuel injector tip; inside the combustion chamber. I've discovered awhile ago that carbon removal can be done with atomized water. The technology or method came about during the WW II. At that time it was called "methanol injection". The methanol was added to water to prevent it from freezing at high altitude. Anyway, introducing atomized water leading into the combustion chamber "cracks" carbon off of metal contact surfaces. So I experimented by 1st cleaning with atomized water. After a few days went by I did the CRC treatment. Guess what? No smoke! ... indicating what? ... engine was virtually carbon free?

Great Video! Do you know if the 2012 version of the accord needs the same amount of attention to the fuel injection system? 5-10k seems pretty frequent and I had never heard of this problem. Either way, I m planning on doing this soon, but I m curious.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 3 года назад
Thanks for your comments! I'd recommend doing the cleaning process every 10k miles. The PEA detergent will also help clean carbon deposits in your combustion chamber. Toyota's solution to the problem was to have dual injectors; that is one port and the other direct. When the port injectors are activated, the detergent in the fuel contacts and cleans the intake valves. Toyota also found that in certain driving situations, it's better to use the port injectors. I'll guess that most of Toyota's competitors will adopt using dual injectors ... assuming EV's don't take over the world.

Never had an issue with either of My earth dreams Hondas current car is a 2019 CRV 1.5 t and its done over 150,000 miles, the Honda Tech at my dealership stated to me last year that carbon build up on these engines is extremely rare as Honda mitigated this as a proportion of the intake valves do get a spray through overlap and the valves are designed to rotate to give an even clean, they did offer a cleaning option if I wanted which I believe was crushed walnuts ? but I declined as it was pretty pricey, car never misses a beat , pretty impressive IMO. Car always runs on Premium fuel and gets a drop of injector cleaner in the tank every 3000 miles.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro Месяц назад
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience. Good for you that you haven't experienced any carbonized intake valve problems with over 150,000 miles. When problems do happen, the amount of carbon buildup inside the intake ports and on the valves is not to be believed! Toyota addressed this intake valve carbon accumulation problem by having 2 injectors per cylinder; both port and direct injectors. What their engineers discovered was in certain driving conditions, port injection was more efficient that direct as well as having both working simultaneously. A short time later, Hyundai began providing dual injectors on their high end 2.5L engines. Using premium vs regular fuel along with injector cleaner has no effect on keeping intake valves clean since fuel never touches the intake valves.

If it's a GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine, clean via the intake; if MPI (multi point injection) then via fuel rail if your have the hardware to connect a fuel cleaner canister to the fuel rail.

The White smoke is not really the carbon burning off, it’s the cleaner being burnt. I’m not saying this procedure doesn’t clean the carbon, but the white smoke mostly cleaner.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 3 года назад
I've done this procedure spraying in pressurized misted water and it produced the same result: lots of white smoke. When the water vapors hits the combustion chamber, the carbon flakes off and gets burned out. After around 10 minutes (in extremely carbonized engines), the smokes clears up regardless of the continued water injection. The white smoke also gives off a funky smell ... that's got to be carbon burning off. I'm assuming the catalytic converter is working overtime (since it acts like a mini furnace) burning up the carbon. Ironically, I think the misted water introduced in the air intake works just as well as the chemical cleaner. You have to be extremely careful how much water you inject to prevent hydro-lock; which can bend your connecting rods.

I kinda need to do this to my Accord, that said I have to imagine PEA offers little for this type of application. It as a detergent isn't bad, but its not super effective for carbon. Its claim to fame is being able to survive in the combustion chamber. Most will burn up instantly doing basically nothing for pistons, PEA will absorb into the carbon on heads to slowly break it down. Its not a fast acting cleaner, its mild, but its about the only option for cleaning heads, at least while the motor is at operating temp. This seems more like a fast clean is all, PEA shouldn't be able to do virtually anything during the time it takes to empty the can. My only guess is they have multiple cleaners to clean rapidly (since lower temps) and the PEA is just there to break down any remaining carbon in the long run (if any carbon remained at all).
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 2 года назад
All good points and thanks for sharing! What I've found, from trying different methods, is using a product call B12 Chemtool which is sold as a fuel additive for cleaning fuel injectors. If you take off the intake plenum to expose the intake ports, pouring in the chemical (with both the intake and exhaust valves closed of course) will eat away the years of carbon accumulation on both the valves and port walls very quickly! As of late, I've been rebuilding Hyundai Sonata 2.4L I4 engines. With the cylinder head off and tilted on the side, I just pour in the Chemtool and let it sit for 10 minutes. I later on use a dremel tool with a snake extension with a mini rounded brass brush to help break up any accumulated residual hard carbon deposits. I then use compressed air to blow out any carbon chunks and repeat the process one more time. The results are instant and unbelievable! You can do this with the head on the block. Use a combination of paper towels and compressed air to dry out the ports. Again, with respect to the Chemtool, I can soak a heavily carbonized piston head for 10 minutes, let it dry out and wire brush the carbon off. The carbon just flakes off with no problem!
