There are millions of car videos on RU-vid, 99% are bullshxt gimmicks that's nothing but a car soap opera, this channel is those rare gems which people always had overlooked
Thank you for this very educational, practical, and interesting lesson. I'd bet some of us are thinking, "You are our Car Care Hero." I have previously worked in a customer service business in which being honest with customers was something I had to be careful about concealing from management to avoid jeopardizing my job. Truly honest technicians can be hard to find - even when they would like to be honest, but are pressured to "up-sell."
Ahmed, you hit the nail on the head ! You will make more money in the long run by being honest. Not only will that owner return again and again but he will tell everyone he knows about the honest professional he brings his car to. God bless you for the way you treat others. On a side note I'm so impressed that you find time to post videos while you are so busy starting the new business. I know you will be blessed with the success you deserve. 👍👍
The unfortunate thing is many people will skip the needed services even if you're honest about the unneeded services. People will cut out oil changes because nothing seems wrong. I don't work on cars but I'm a physician and patients will ignore procedures and treatments because they don't see the immediate dangers.
Facts. That is how I find my mechanics. Unless it is an extreme emergency in an unknown area I am not taking my vehicle to any random mechanic. I am asking friends and family where they take theirs and who is reliable. Word of mouth is still the best marketing and mechanics like Ahmed will always win out in the end because of customer retention.
As a DIY since 1970, I really appreciate hearing from a candid and honest technician. I just finished service on my 2006 Highlander with 183,000 miles and found it very comforting to see a professional mechanic who shares my philosophy. Keep it up!
Thank you for this video! Just went to my Honda dealership and they tried to sell my an induction service for $180. I told them "no thanks". Even American Honda says it's not necessary and that it's just a money grab for dealerships
Every one of your videos are helpful and informative. Automotive diagnostics and repair is a hobby of mine and saves me tons of money. You bring so much value to this platform. Thank you.
Thank you for being such an honest mechanic. May God richly bless you and your family 🙌🙌 That is some good advice for all mechanic. Word of mouth advertisement is the best.
There I was sitting in my kitchen, thinking about sending the car care nut a message asking if he could do a video on the fuel induction service decide to look it up before sending a message he already delivered. This channel is amazing and trustworthy I decided to switch my wife’s 19 Camry le to 5 k oil changes because of this gentleman hopefully that engine lasts to well over 300K
You are a unicorn!!! I wish I had become a mechanic when I went in the military. I would be one like yourself. I subscribed immediately after all your honest answers. Thank you.
Thank you sir. My mom has a 2019 Honda Cr-V with 36k miles. She just took it in for an oil change and they told her she needs the CVT transmission fluid changed and a DGI Induction service. We shall see about that now that I've watched your video. I sincerely appreciate your time and honesty. I wish your shop was in East Texas as I don't trust anyone to work on my new Tacoma. God bless
Great. I know a bit about engines, transmissions, suspension and some other stuff. I keep seeing dealers trying to upsell unwanted and unwarranted stuff and at the same time, an independent mechanic who is honest and tells me what I need, what I don't need. Though, sometimes, I make him perform some, just because I want it. Kudos to you
Thanks for the informative video AMD. As an owner of a new vehicle with direct injection I had yet to develop a strategy around this service, but this video helps a lot.
Subbed! Thank you. I drive 70 miles a day almost all highway. At 34k miles on my accord. I won't be doing the induction service due to your advice. Thanks!
Those valves are clean. I watched a youtuber clean the valves on an Audi R8 with a V10 engine. That one had massive carbon build up. This Toyota is overall very clean.
Another great video AMD! But I'd like to add something regarding the drive belts...often they don't crack, but they just wear through the grooves, and when it's very worn, you can bend them lengthwise (even when fitted) and you can feel that there is not much material left between the grooves, making it more flexible lengthwise and indicating it needs replacement.
Which model is that scope? How do you like it? I was looking at that exact brand yesterday for possible purchase. Can’t wait for your head to head scan tool comparo
Induction service doesn't have anything to do with the combustion chamber. It has to do with the induction system. The intake runners and the back side of the intake valves.
Diagnostics costs and is money well spent. I looked into the cylinders of my 2003 2uz--fe 230,000 miles when I did plugs a year ago. Looked like that Camrys pistons. No cleaning needed. Same with my 2006 Accord V6 @ 150,000 miles. Pulled the intake to do valve cover gaskets. The valve stems were 💯 clean...just bronzed from heat and minimal egr vapors. Unless you have symptoms or drive a German car...it probably isn't needed.
Hi AMD, instead of paying for an induction service would we accomplish the same thing as using products like BG as a fuel additive to the gas tank or the engine cleaning products that goes into the crank case?
Excellent Video Presentation AMD... SO Honest... Wish I could find a mechanic of your caliber in my local area... But, my gps says your NEW shop is only 250 miles away... Hmmmm 🤔 That's not too far to go for Excellence 😎 Thank You !!! Even IF my vehicles are both 2005's... They are Toyota's and they are meant to be driven... Hi Marcela ❤️
I'm just blown away at how honest and humble of a mechanic you are I wish I could find a mechanic such as yourself. Thanks for making these video I would have gladly paid for a service that I wouldn't have needed.
I'm in Cali and have yet to find a mechanic with this knowledge and skill let alone ethics. I absolutely dread taking my Lexus even for an oil change. They use bulk oil and lie saying it's Castrol or Mobil ......They supply cheap filters unless you bring your own in which case they charge the same amount. I'm tempted to drive to Illinois if I ever need anything major.....that's how bad it is here.
I genuinely would have fallen for it if I was shown the inside of the combustion chamber like that. Thank you so very much for your enlightenment dear TCCN.
Yup, this is normal. It is a combustion chamber. Think about how much gasoline / petrol gets burned in there. A crooked mechanic can sell by showing the video / pictures to a uneducated customer, but a TRUE one will ..well, tell the truth! Good job my brotha! Keep up the honest and good work! *btw, i cannot imagine how busy you are now! Flourish and grow man!
Excellent video, as always! I totally agree with your philosophy of service only when needed and admire you for sticking to your stance! Wish there were more mechanics and more people who followed that course...it would be a better world.
I remember a quote by a member of the band, Wilco, years ago, when asked what he thinks of evil in the world. He replied, "Without evil in the world, there would be no victory in living a life of integrity." I guess I'd have to agree, but it would be nice if there were just a *little* more honesty and cooperation.
Thank you so much for this video. Thank you for educating me on what to look for and the why's and how's. My dealers have hinted at "induction service", but both cars perform fine. Plus I do regular oil changes as recommended and use too tier gas. Thanks again!
Toyota of Plano just got me and lost me after seeing your video. They told me to do this at 18k and I didn’t know any better but I questioned it. I did it anyway :( Fool me once. Thank you so much. You are so honest and I appreciate you.
I know you're a Toyota guy and I have a ford but i love your videos, man. Any time i see a mechanic who's willing to build trust and show that honest people exist, I'm happy. I'm actually about to take my DI taurus for an induction service soon. It's about at 50k miles and i don't want to lose it to anything ridiculous down the road.
@The Car Care Nut “..I go home at night, sit with my family, go to bed with a clean conscience..that to me is worth more..” PRICELESS!!! How can people nowadays forget this..very sad..kudos to you sir!!!
I have the 2014 2ARFE engine and 195,000 miles , runs great , you have really taught me lots of great stuff and I’ve been applying it to the car , changing the oil every 5 k since I’ve had it , you give the best most honest advice I’ve seen , love the channel.
AMD, Thanks for the great advice. Now I can take the money I saved by avoiding costly induction service and use it to have the soles of all my shoes polished by a team of fully qualified professionals. 😉
That's where the problem is. How honest the mechanics could be. So the conclusion is the only mechanic you can trust is yourself. I have 06 Rx330 starting from new, done all routine maintenance by myself. Also replaced alternator, radiator and finished timing belt service recently, including water pump, idlers, tensioner etc. It's not too hard. And feel confident because I know what I put in.
You are such an amazing person, especially being so honest with your customers. If I lived close to where you will be opening up your shop I would definitely be bring my Tacoma to get it serviced at your shop. It is too bad that I live about 1,000 miles away. I like your analogy of how a combustion chamber is suppose to look. I think of it as the same way as to looking at the bottom of a skillet. I use a natural gas stove to cook on and the bottom of the skillet over time collects carbon deposits on it and I can still read the manufacturer's name on my skillets and even though those carbon deposits are on the bottom of the skillet it still isn't enough of a build up to bother with the heat transfer needed to cook food on it. If there was a lot of carbon deposits on the bottom a skillet as some point it would interfere with that heat transfer. I really wish there were mechanics like you with honesty and integrity. May God bless you and your family.
I serviced my 11 GS with about 100K. I did it myself, I ended up changing the tstat and drive belt. Used Denso parts. Did it need it? probably not. For $60, DIY it was peace of mind to me. I know 100% now it will be good for another 10 years. Would those parts have lasted 10more years? Very likely. Many spark plugs don't need replacing at 60K either. Tough call sometimes. You can really go crazy and replace the WP and pulleys too.
My plugs had 130 k and if I had know how good they looked I wouldn't have got the new plugs but as I had the new plugs I went ahead and installed them.
@@rodneybooth4069 My GS says to change the plugs at 60K. Iridium plugs. A set of Denso plugs cost about 40$? when I did it. Now, the thing about maintenance is the part you remove can look perfectly fine. It does not necessarily have to need replacing. They are hedging a plug change against a $2k cat converter on that car, if it should fail. The coolant I removed from my car looked perfectly pink, as good as what I replaced it with.
Sme thing happened to me when I saw my belt that color I asked my mechanic to change it and he asked me why I said it looks old and I am afraid it might Burst he said I don't need to change it
I know of a mechanic shop that is honest, does professional work at medium price range and they don't upsale. They can hardly keep up with the business they generate from that business model.
Excellent honest video, but that's what I expect from you! If I have to make a short trip, I tend to take the long way home in an effort to avoid the buildup of carbon and moisture in my engine and exhaust. I may burn a little extra fuel, but my vehicles run great.
My 2020 RAV4 gets a lot of "around town" driving. Then I put it on the freeway, cruise control on, 70 mph for several miles, then drive it back at the same speed. Not only the combustion chambers, but the PCV system, engine oil, trans fluid and more get good and hot and helps to eliminate the moisture that gets into those fluids. The next time it's driven, it's like a young kid full of energy instead of an old person who can't move well. Also, that very slight tip-in hesitation is gone! The vehicle has "less than" 9000 miles. Not a typo! And yes I'm retired 6 years now but still work on my own vehicles. I may do overkill on preventative maintenance, but the proof is in the vehicles operation. They run great! More important. "You take care of and maintain your vehicle, it'll take care of you!" Thank you for this video. Hope the new building is coming along well!
Thank you for showing us what "normal" should look like. That is half the battle! I really appreciate your teaching and knowledge. Best of luck with your new shop!
This is a really informative channel. I'll take your word for it because apart from routine maintenance, I've never done an induction service or cleaned the injectors on my 2001 Sienna XLE. It's clocked 190k+ miles and still runs perfectly
I was in Iraq in 2005. I was at Taji and Baqubah. Everything is old in Iraq, including the dirt lol. I’m very happy to see you here in the US. Thank you for your channel❤️ And everything you and Mrs D does.
I have a 2017 Chevy Trax LE, I have 66,000 miles. I drive lots of highway interstate driving. Chevrolet says I need Fuel injection service, I even use an additive to. I don't think I need it. $269.95 plus 10% tax, Also they $319.00 for a Transmission Fluid exchange too, and $149.95 for a Computerized Wheel Alignment! I don't think I need any of it! What do you think?
About 6 months ago I had my 2004 LS430 with 168K miles on it in the shop and they recommended fuel injector cleaning. They didn't try to hard sell it they just recommended which I turned down because it sounded like an upsell. Based on your advice here I think I did the right thing. Would be nice to know what your advice/experience is regarding the use of fuel additives for cleaning? They are significantly cheaper but are they actually useful? For example are pour-in fuel injector cleaners like Techron, Royal Purple, Lucas, or ATS Chemicals' 505 CRF/CRO worth using?
Hey Big Guy- With your permission, I would like to borrow a phrase from you. The phrase, which you say in the most benevolent manner is " Please don't do that". You mentioned (in a different segment) going to sleep at 2 A.M., and then getting up very early the following morning. "Please don't do that." I will try to be succinct in my explanation. While I was working full time, I was also taking care of my dear Mom. She had serious challenges to her health for six years. My goal during that time was to keep her feeling safe, secure, and relatively happy while we fought the challenges of her illness together . While other family members ran in the opposite direction, I devoted myself to those principles of care. I cut back on sleep, stress management, etc. and have since learned those sacrifices have cost me in terms of health. I can tell how excited you are about the new endeavor, and fully understand how you might consider cutting back on sleep, but if you can find a way, please cut back on something less important; even if it means a delay, or less broadcasts. If possible, please reexamine all activities while prioritizing sleep, and health.
Italian tune-up! I like it. I am so impressed with this guy. I love you man. Thank you for your video so informative. Spot on. I will see this man in Heaven, not because of his honesty but because he loves the Lord Jesus. I know he only said the Lord but I am very positive the only Lord he is taking about is Jesus Himself. A person can be the most honest person in the World but that does not guarantee a place in Heaven.
When a car smells like rotten eggs only on the hwy doesn't this mean this service is needed if the catalytic converter isn't clogged? I have heard my car model is known for carbon buildup 2006 Lexus is 250. I do use synthetic oil and only changed every 5k miles, top tier premium fuel as the manual recommended.
Yet another example of how it should be with every single mechanic, HONESTY & INTEGRETY if only it was this way AMD. Loved it totally and will always recommend your channel as an honest place to go when they need to know something for their Toyota. Keep Safe Keep Strong My Dear Friend🦘🦘🦘🦘🚗🚗🚗🚗💖💖💖💖
Dipsh**s at the Kia dealer for my wifes sportage keeps telling her she needs this. Along with a break system fluid change. It is a 2020 with 28K miles🙄
In an import shop where I was the service writer, we used BG Induction service. We recommend that cleaning every 25-30,000 miles along with an oil change and a can of 44K EFI cleaner. This method cleaned the injectors, but also cleaning the combustion chamber and induction (air intake and throttle body) areas. City driving and idling DOES add more varnish/sludge to the engine area where as city driving keeps that to a bare minimal. We would suggest for people to taking a 40-60 minute drive on the interstate to heat up the engine and blow out the cobwebs once a month. City miles cut the life of an engine by at least 1/2. Great posting again AMD!
Watched another channel that spoke of the induction service. He said carbon buildup not likely to come off. You'd have to do the induction service regularly, like every 30k miles to keep valve clean.
What's your tip on my 2013 Toyota Corolla S with 156k miles, I've hade it for 6yrs but never done a transmission fluid change. Would you recommend I do it?
Hey Car Care Nut, thks for this video. Now i am wondering what abt the plug-in Toyota cars ?? From what you explained seems that these rype of cars will have severe issues with carbon in the engine and would need more attention.
Believe me, they rip men "a new one" as well if they can get away with it and some shops pull a lot of scummy underhanded tactics to do just that. Thankfully not all shops/mechanics do that but to figure out who one can trust vs stay far away from.
Problem with buying one of these (or any Toyota) used is that unless there is written proof, you don't know if the original owner did the needed maintenance on time.
I would change all the fluids so at least you have that peace of mind. Engine, transmission, coolant, front diff/rear diff (awd), brake fluid and power steering changed. At least you can start from that point.
