Kerosene, GRUNGEBRUSH and a few shop rags is all ya need. Between the three your chain will be cleaner than if you used a commercial chain cleaning product HANDS DOWN and for far less money too!! Kerosene is cheap!! Apply a quality chain lube after that and you're all set to go!!
i use this same method. kerosene, toothbrush (grunge brush works better but i don’t have one) then dry off and coat with maxima chain wax. keeps the chain gorgeous and healthy for CHEAP. 20 bucks for all the supplies and will be able to clean the chain probably 20 times
Very good tips especially at the end making sure you don’t get any of this stuff on your tire. But more importantly, make sure you don’t get it on your rotor or brake pads! Bonus tip!!!
Nice vid. But you could put a paper on the ground to work clean and put the lube in the lower part where you measured not on the sprocket. You need the grease on the inside part of the chain not on the outside. Cheers
So I agree with most everything he says except for, number one should be safety. Number two, did he say socket or sprocket? I also agree that the pitbull stand is the way to go. The other option is getting a $30 roller which is what I use and that also works and takes up less space in the house when it comes to storage
3:40 ya and if you retract the kickstand for whatever reason [which you typically dont need to] dont forget to put it back down before letting off rear stand.
Hey HEROrr I'm 18 thinking of starting to ride, but I was wondering if a ninja 300r is good starter bike or do you have a better recommendation for a starter bike?
Try the ninja 650 r smooth throttle enough power not to get bored of in a year or even 2 I got myself a vulcan s same engine as 650 r but more docile and I like the looks lightweight crusuier it's like a sport cruiser
Good video, I clean my motorcycle chain with kerosene, grunge brush, and lube with liquid wrench for chain. I usually get about 40K to 45K miles out of the chain. I put a cardboard piece between the tire and chain and large pizza box on the floor to catch any cleaner or lube.
I'd be careful about using brake/choke cleaner on your chain. Most aren't safe for sealed chains, and will deteriorate the o-rings with continued use. Just something to think about.
Stevenv1992: Kerosene is paraffin any where in the world. It's a petroleum by-product. Same stuff as candle paraffin just in a solid form. Also kerosene has a high 'flash point, meaning you can spray it on a hot engine block and it will not ignite. I have used it exactly as I explained for over forty years on cleaning my 60's VW engines to current. The engine grease comes off much easier when engine is hot and kerosene is used. Cheaper than aerosol. Buy a spray bottle. A good one will last years.
+Julio Gonzalez I cannot believe I forgot to mention that!! You would want to go by your manufacturers specific recommendations, but I typically clean my chain every 500 miles. Clean and lube every time. I used to lube it every 200 and clean every 600, but that was getting a bit much lol.
Both are really bad options... Too tight and it might snap, too loose it might damage your sprockets or swing. With these two options the tight might cause way bigger damage as if the chain snaps on highspeed it might whip your engines block and that is really pain in the ass. Also it is good to remember that tight chain is delivering torque to the wheel much better that loose chain. Its not too time consuming to tighten it up. It's literally 5 bolts to be screwed. But, imo the heros chain wasn't that bad yet.
Nice story, but....!! Could you put an old newspaper under your chain next time? You don't want to have this mess on your rear tire, but I don't want this mess on the ground or in the environment! Filthy! Someone who steps out of his car doesn't want it on the sole of his shoes either...
chains are a fuck*n mess and a pain in the arse... you have to clean and lube them every other day... why don't they make more motorcycles with transmission belts? out of the cruiser world, they seem to be unheard of
Good job teaching for the noobs. Now, if you could just put a real set of tires on there.... you'll be much happier. Go with the tried and true Michelin Pilot Power 2ct. I run nothing else on the street for both my 600rr and 1000rr SP.
