Showing us how to clean Jim green boots on your own channel is smart and creates complete trust. Thank you! Can't wait to own a pair of your boots one day Jim Green. Thanks for the work you do in nature. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I follow the option 1 for both my crazy horse vellie and dark brown razor backs. Works superbly. Bonus advice: wash your dusty laces together with your washing load.
Thanks Steven, this is correct. The more rest the boot gets the better. For the video we were limited for time in filming but maybe should have added this point in
@@JimGreenFootwearOfficial Thank you, Jim Green. You could have edited two days of recording into one video and added " The Next Day ". Also, a detailed video of making your boots like Nicks Handmade Boots does would be great ! Best regards.
@@stevenroche9874 Agreed, we learning as we go along, not as easy as we thought putting a smooth flowing story line together but getting there. Good news is a detailed video on how our Razorback is made will be out in the next 2/3 weeks.
I accidentally stumbled upon the best method to clean these boots. While pressure washing my truck floor mats I accidentally went across the boot. I had been using beeswax which darkened the leather just like this video. Well….the pressure washer cleaned them up to “original color/condition “. 1200 p.s.i. and about 1 min. each and they were back to original! Now i press oil into them daily and once every couple weeks wash them. Couldn’t be happier.
I conditioned mine with Obenaufs oil even though its not recommended for nubuck like leather. It darkened significantly but added extra water resistance. I'm pretty happy with how they look. Similar to how your left boot turned out.
@@SolidGoldHedgehog Very little without treatment. Water soaks right through the leather. The Obenaufs doesnt last very long. It has already worn off mine.
@@SolidGoldHedgehog With a beeswax-based conditioner like Obenauf's they fare well against rain, dew, and damp, but they are not truly "waterproof" the way a silicone-based treatment, or a liner like Goretex might be. You wouldn't ford a river, or even really stomp too many puddles with them and expect to stay dry, but rain or spray beads and runs off pretty well. I use Obenauf's and they keep me dry walking around rainy Seattle for up to a couple miles at a time. You could go for Sno Seal for something one step up in weatherproofing, but there's no treatment that will turn a South African hiking boot into a lined boot if you need to really trudge through snow or anything like that.
I just received my fudge Rangers, and plan to clean them with Angelus Easy cleaner, along with all my footwear. I started using it for suede and nubuck, and ended up using it on my smooth leather too. its much gentler than saddle soap for nubuck and suede so it won't change the appearance while still having plently of cleaning power. I'll prob hit little day to day stuff with with my suede/nubuck eraser and brush, and will condition with Saphir Oiled leather cream. I personally want to avoid turning them dark brown as long as possible, unless it's patina. I like the way crazy horse ages. Just wanted to present an alternate care method
Thanks for the video I was a bit unsure on the lighter leather and wasn’t super sold on the full brown option, but really like the darker bees wax shade on the light boots. So will go for that
I have both the brown and the crazy horse I like the crazy horse leather a bit better. If the brown was more of an oiled leather I'd dig it more... we will see after a year or so of wear
I've seen these spit shined before to a mirror finish. No one hardly ever does it to crazy horse leather but I've seen it and it looks good. You should try it sometime with an old pair you have laying around for s&g's.
Ek is 'n boytjie van die suburbs, maar my fok hierdie boots is die shizzles. Gaan verseker vir my 'n paar aanskaf. Beursie is dun, maar 'n boer maak 'n plan.
Maybe a short break-in video where you just advise customers to be patient and not-to-do's. Almost gave up on both my Rangers and Stockmans after both made me bleed for a few days! They walk like I'm on clouds now
Thanks Danie, this is a good idea for an upcoming video, will put that down on the to do list. As we use heavy duty and quality materials it does take time before your boots break in.
Do you have to use the conditioner? I've had a couple of pairs of Nubuck boots and loved the finish after wear and then vigorous cleaning and saddle soap (of DW soap with water if you're cheap).
Great video Jim, Subbed by the way :) but i've a question, how to remove mold from crazy horse? can i just use white vinegar or isopropyl alcohol? or just clean it with saddle soap and some cream / balsam?
Good day Dayrish, thank you for your support. We would recommend caring the boots with Saddle soap and Balsam and further down the line should the issue still occur to look into alternate treatment. Please feel free to get in contact with jason@jimgreenfootwear.co.za should you wish to pass on some images of the boot for further analysis.
What's the best way to care for these in the black full grain? 10 years in the Army and I only ever did deep cleaning like this after going to the field. My every day boots got regular old Kiwi black shoe polish once a week.
For my all black ones, Angelus easy cleaner if they need a good cleaning, warm water on a damp cloth for day to day. I use Smiths Leather Balm on mine too, like these guys. 3 ingredients, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and beeswax. It's made in Maine. Being beeswax based, and if buffed with a horsehair brush produces an acceptable shine if that's your thing too. Sheds rain well, and helps when you want to wipe them down, they don't stain as easily. I do it whenever they feel or look a little dry. Not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer and have roots up where it's produced.
This question is not really connected to this video. Looking for some size information I have a pair of Razorbacks in a size 10 they fit quite well. I am getting ready to order some Rangers I have heard they run big question is should I stay with a 10 or drop down to 9 1/2? thank you for any help!
Good day and thanks for the support. I have attached the information regarding the two lasts used in the boots below JG last - This is a wide fit and offers a snugger feel all around. This last, we use on our Razorback, Stockman slip on, 4x4, Bushcat and ARG Boot STC last - This is a wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box (more room above the toes). This last, we use on our African Ranger, Vellie, and Outback Slip On
Hi, as for inner care we recommend loosening the boot as much as possible and placing it in a cool, dry breezy area, allowing the boot the to air after each use.
Thanx for the video. I have a pair of Highlanders that I love. I have black marks on them from my bikes gear lever. What is the best why to get that cleaned.
I am a bit disappointed to stumble;e across this video now. I asked some time ago on a WhatsApp number how to clean my boots to maintain the light colored look. I was told that scuffed boots have character. Should have been to your channel at the minimum.
Thanks for posting this video. When will that variant of crazy horse leather be available? The website only has Fudge Crazy Horse leather to choose from.
Correct, the suede cleaner we used is a spray on option. After applying it goes as dark as a leather balm or bees was but sinks in a lot faster and doesn't change the look. Before using any product it is best to test it on a small area of the boot first.
@@JimGreenFootwearOfficial Thank you very much for the info! I also want to find out if there is a way to fluff out the patina and get the original suede back? My pair has recently started making a patina on the front (the part covering the toes)
@@JimGreenFootwearOfficial I just got em in and I'm loving them! Can't wait to them these bad boys out on some trails here in Illinois and out in yellowstone later this summer!
Could you please put a link in for supliers / retailers in Cape Town . Been looking around for a month now to try find a pair of your boots down here . Really love to get a pair .
Good day and thanks for the interest! You are able to locate all our Official Online stores through the link below. Please get in touch should you have any questions.🐸 linktr.ee/jimgreenfootwear
that is good but not touch, see, try is not a way to buy, and is hiper silly to do so, nor the fact of buy return buy return etc etc @@JimGreenFootwearOfficial
Why do the boots get dark in those areas? It's obvious in areas that come in contact with the hands but is it because of mechanical forces(rubbing etc..) or is the oils from the skin?
Have a pair of these boots and after a hike white lines developed around each of the boots. What are these white lines and how would you recommend dealing with them? Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback and support, those white lines are salt from the leather. This naturally can happen when leather is not finished off with a "seal" over coat. As in the video brush down the boot and use a saddle soap or even just some water to wipe off.
Good day and thanks for the interest! You are able to use Saphir Renovateur on our Fudge Leather, please note that the results may vary from the products used in video and we would recommend treating a small area of the boot before an entire care and condition to get an idea of the results you may experience 💪💪
Is saddle soap safe for nubuck leather? I'm seeing most products saying they're not appropriate for suede or nubuck. I've got a pair of barefoot African Rangers in Houston Brown. I'm not particularly worried about the look, but I do want to protect and preserve them living in the Northeast United States.
Good day and great question! saddle soap is safe for Nubuck leather. The saddle soap will restore many of the lost oils from wearing the boot along with cleaning the leather. 🙌💪
I like to use saddle soap and warm water. Then a brick 4 conditioner afterwards. This video was very helpful. Think goodness i didnt use bees wax because i thought about doing that. Booth looks are great tho. Nice video!! Very helpful! Thanks
@@troggy22 good actually. It takes a day for it to settle i to the leather. So it starts off a little darker. But once it drys the stain or whatever your trying to wash off is gone and they look brand new!
@@jacobgoodrich3400 awesome, that's what I was hoping for. Want to be able to condition the leather in some way and still keep it lighter in color. Thanks!
I found the leather to be overly dry when I got them. They soaked up water and left white stains behind. I heavily applied some leather balm to them. I came back and did it again a couple weeks later. I found this to be much better. The boots will stay a bit darker, but will lighten up close to the same color.
