Hey Luke, sounds like it may need to be completely re-done with new timber. What kind of wood is it? You may be able to get away with replacing just the softer bits. Best thing to do would be to take a bunch of photos and head into your local store and chat with the team about best options ^Charlie
@@mitre10nz Thanks for the advice Charlie, I'll take some deck pics and show them to the staff at my local Mitre 10 near Whakatane, hopefully they'll help me get my old deck back to its former glory
Spray the deck with a hose before cleaning to help it not dry out. I made that mistake. Also u can use a sprayer for the cleaner instead of dipping the brush every single time.
Six to12 hours is pretty adequate, but always check manufacturer's specifications as each are different. I rather water blast as I am not using chemicals and doing the job and drying times is quicker.
@@mitre10nz sorry, that was an attempt at a joke, because "deck" sounds a bit ambiguous with your accent :) the video is excellent, do not pay attention to me.
Sorry... this is going to be my first time trying to stain my deck. At 4:05, what does this tip mean? Do I clean the deck and stain after 1 season? Thanks heaps!
Thanks for watching! We recommend staining after a few months, or a few seasons to allow the wood to completely dry, which will allow for a much better finish and protection once stained. ^Cam
Hey Serena, there are advantages to both - we'd recommend having a chat to the team at your local store and they'll be able to talk you through what might be the best choice based on the environment/local conditions and what you're wanting for the finished look ^Matt
I love Mitre 10 .... Love these guys who do the videos to help out the people like me who don't have a clue and have to do these things on our own. Good on you Mitre 10
The presenter has proven to be a highly competent and skills tradesman. His explanations are very good. just wish he would learn to pronounce his vowels. "Dick" (deck) "Pig" (peg) "Fince" (Fence)
