How to Clean the Throttle Body on your Toyota 4Runner or FJ Cruiser 

Thanks for this vid. Went to take my 4Runner in for inspection and my Toyota dealership wanted $175 to clean the throttle body. I can totally do this myself.

Good video. I did this on my 2004 GX470, the TB is facing forward so very easy to clean. Never shoot the cleaner directly. Use a soft cloth and soak it on your finger. GENTLY push the butterfly and rub all around with your finger and you will clean a LOT of gunk off. You can take it off too but that is up to the individual. The 4Runner faces driver side and is a bit harder to get too. I am throwing a P1604 code on my 4Runner and will clean it tonight to see if that is what is causing it. BTW, Walmart has the cleaner pair, CRC Mass Air Flow & Throttle Body cleaner for $8.47. There is enough there to clean a fleet of cars when you use the wet rag vs the direct spray method.

Thanks. This video helped me clean my 5th gen 4 runner throttle body today. I thought that would fix my acceleration hesitation but must be something else. Already cleaned maf sensor. No engine lights are coming up

Do I need a new gasket when I remove the throttle body?

Hi Mike, I’ve hear that when you take off the throttle boddy (an electric one like our 4runners have) you can’t push the butterfly because the gears inside that plastic cover on it will get bad) Is this true? Thanks!

Had a question regarding the throttle body took the battery off to reset my 4runner when I put it back on had a fault for throttle body saying it was stuck open cleaned it and put it back my car now idles but turn off. do you know what might be causing this? thanks

Is there any re-learn process or does it idle and run fine even after you disconnect the harness ? some other makes dont run well without relearn throttle position, just wondering ! Looked nice and clean after !
