Tnx alot for your great training These days I have experienced a new way to clean muddy mixes, I have tested it on many genres and I share it with you Guys Some Saturations or most of them has mide and side options for processing the sinal, For some purposes, I choose side mode processer and by monitoring the side section and saturate this section, and combination it with the mide part, I can hear a lot of changes from before. Wider mix or master buss without any muddy or lifeless in your mix, nice color and also Glue all the things together, I do this technic with WAP Helper saturation, This saturation is my go to every thing, very low cpu performance but excellent quality and very cheap plugin Regards Best
My another way to get rid of muddy frequencies is using the pultec eqs. By boosting lowend level by using program eqs then finding and cutting that muddy frequencies by using pultec meq series .I think the greatest duty of these eqs after gluing( maybe before) is cleaning the muddy frequencies.
Sometimes I listen to each track by soloing or muting that regularly to find out which track or tracks have problem, then by solving that particular problem, at least , I don't have this kind of problem after rendering my mix for mastering.
And my last way to solve muddy mixes, is using Waves F6 RTA as dynamic eq and I do it exactly as the same as your second trick on this video by using Fabfilter pro MB
Sometimes this problem will be solved by boosting some frequencies on high mid or high frequencies, I typically boost a sweet spot between 6 _9 Khz if it didn't work for me, I try to boost some high frequencies between 10 _ 14 khz
Hey Kambiz! Thanks for sharing this technique! Saturating the side image is a great way to increase the amplitude of it and bring quieter aspects forward. SageAudio.com
When I saw the title of the video I was thinking "I got this" and to be bluntly honest, I was completely surprised by the info you made available here. I have used multiband compression and expansion to enhance the lows on rock/metal mixes, but it has never crossed my mind to use it to clean a muddy mix. And, if I'm honest, that was the mindset I started watching the video: this is a mix thing, why handling it on the master? I guess you don't have the luxury of dealing with it during mixing because that's your starting point. This being said, I have a question: this is, in fact, a mixing issue, right? What I mean by this is, in ideal conditions it should be dealt with during mixing and mastering should not have to deal with it, would you agree?
Hey Synaptic Schism! Glad to hear that this video changed your mind on how multi-band compressors can be used! You're right - ideally this is something that could be handled during the mixing stage, but if that isn't an option it helps to know how to make it work during mastering. Thanks again! SageAudio.com
Sage Audio - does the softube allow you to adjust the bias on the tape machine to give you the ability to get a old hot Motown sound ? I want to run my tascam dp24 masters into the softube. Can I save the effected mix in the softube tape program or do I need to use it as part of a DAW? I only have a expired abelton DAW that doesn’t allow me to save anything. Love this video and the mastering chain one. Looking forward to experimenting with some new tools.
Hey John! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! This Tape plugin doesn't include bias. Also, unfortunately, you'll need a DAW to run the plugin. If you're looking to run your tracks from the dp24 into a DAW, Pro Tools First is a great free option. SageAudio.com
@@sageaudio awesome thanks I’ll check that protools first out tonite ! Also could you tell me how the “ try me “ version of the tape plugin works? Is it limited to only some function until you buy it ? Or does it turn off after a certain amount of time? Just want to know before I dig into it this weekend.

Hey T Mack! These are FabFilter plugins, but if you're looking for some free plugins, here's a directory we made: www.sageaudio.com/blog/mastering/150-free-plugins-mac-pc-compatible.php
