Haha KEEP up the good work. #punny This vid also helped me create a mnemonic to remember and share with others. To stay organized, “KEEP CLAP”ping: * Color (can be used to sub-categorize) * Label * Archive * Pin
As I am new to Google Keep, glad that I stumbled across your video tutorials as they are extremely clear and highly accessible. You have made me realise that I need to organise my notes in a more productive way. Thank you for the tips which I will now use.
Way back when, I used a program called Ecco Pro as my CRM system. I loved it because, while a full blown relational database and contact manager, every field was treated essentially as text so I could search the entire database for a single key word and every instance would appear in my result. It was an incredibly powerful tool that helped me stay on top of my business. The search in Keep can do the same thing. I'm gradually migrating fro Evernote to Keep because of its simplicity but also because of the incredible power and the ability to access the information on every device. Thank you for the education. You do a great job.
The first video that caught my attention was your Google Calendar as task manager. Thank you, I don't need to renew Todoist. I am an Evernote user, and use it still for document storage and retrieval. Using Keep with my Pixel XL is sweet, and I am using your videos to develop my own workflow. One thing I stumbled upon and could be used for the Archiving method you mentioned is using the Ctrl+Mouse wheel on the desktop version. This allows you to Zoom in and out when you need to see more notes. The compact view is good for drag and drop rearranging of notes by priority or for mass selection for color coding. I hope this hasn't been pointed out already.
This is by far the best video for Google Keep. I tried Evernote until I found Keep. Try to do all things Google if possible. The archive function is the best idea yet. I've matched my color codes with my Google Calendar and now I have a way to clean up my Notes page. Next step will be converting notes in Google Docs and saving them on Google Drive. I still save things on a hard which I'm trying to get away from. Thanks.
I love Evernote and still use it heavily, but I use google keep in partnership with it. One of my pet peeves with Evernote is the lack of a repeating reminder function...so when I need a repeating reminder for a note I just drop the link into a google keep note and set the reminder. For example I have notes that remind me weekly to do my weekly GTD review and biweekly to back up evernote and other programs, or once a month to pay a certain bill and within them are the link to the full file in EN. Google keep rocks.
thank you for explaining the archive features! i would probably archive notes that are less important and pin the ones i would like to focus on for a while random idea i have: have a to do list label and add all tasks to it!
Good tips! I have been using Keep similar to the way you suggest, your explanation is clear and concise. I would like to mention a benefit to using the archive feature for usage on mobile. I was having a problem with very slow loading and response on my mobile device. I went through this on Evernote with no apparent solution from them. When I started using Keep, the more notes I had, the slower it worked. I ran across a suggestion somewhere to archive my notes, I did that, and the app works very fast, now. So, now I just "clean up" my "home screen" periodically.
Well-Done video. Thanks! But how do you UN-ARCHIVE a note? I'm sure I can figure it out, but it would have been nice to have that info included in this vid.
I've wanted to clean up my daily view of Keep but was unsure of how the archive worked. I didn't know putting labels on each note would ensure they would be easily retrievable even when archived. This was very helpful, thank you for the simple and clear video. Subscribed
This was helpful. I just started using Keep for my To Do and other important lists. And one thing I don't like is how everything shows when you are in the NOTES view. It's very cluttered looking. So what I did is color-coded notes via Labels. I have my Shopping lists (Orange); To Do lists (Blue), etc. Keep seemed to automatically group the colors together and that made things cleaner looking and grouped alike list together.
Great video that explains in detail how to master Google Keep. In fact, your whole series of Keep videos contains great nuggets of wisdom! After fully going all in with Keep, I became frustrated with how best to use it properly and to keep it organized. I stumbled across a gentleman that lives in Sweden who writes a blog and is a you-tuber one day, and He suggested treating your main note page of Keep like an Inbox. To tidy your inbox, he archived his notes. Eureka!! I then found your early videos on Keep. That was the turning point for my productivity flow and Keep... And now today, you have produced a well explained video that further backs up that idea and I THANK YOU!! Google's explanation of Keep has really never been that great. But they should take note of your videos and use those as a reference in how to use their product! As always, "Keep" up the good work!!
Thank you very much for your comments, Anthony. I'm so glad that Keep is working out for you and that my videos have helped along the way. As always, let me know if there is something in particular you would like to learn in an upcoming video.
your video give me some good tips... thank you by the way I switched in to Google Keep after using color note for many years. color note is great app, but I can tell that I am not going back google is the man
Thank you , This information is very timely for me as I use keep to capture ideas but it had become unmanageable and your video above solves that problem.
You did an excellent job with this video. I like Keep but am not as organized in it as I should be. You gave me worthwhile tips that I plan to apply. Thank you!
Interesting, but I have been using a completely different system, and so far it seems to be working. (Sorry, this is long winded.) I used to follow The Secret Weapon version of Getting Things Done. (All info online, and on RU-vid.) But as technology has evolved, I am trying to made changes, and have moved partly to Keep, and Google Calendar. I put a tag of 1-Now on all my active notes. The ones I believe are the most important. I also color those notes as yellow, and I limit to no more than 5. (Should be 3.) Click on the tag, and now you only have todays tasks. (And often tomorrows.) Next I have a list of tasks I hope to finish that week, and that is teal, and uses the tag 2-Next. Daily I see if I have room, and move items from the teal/2-Next to the yellow/1-now. 3-Soon (gray) is my next list that will take longer than a week, but are ready to be moved into the week. 4-Later for pretty much everything else. 5-Someday for items I would like to eventually do, or even dreams, and a 6-Waiting for items that require somebody else to be able to move foreword on. When something is completed, I change the tag to @Complete, and archive it. That way it doesn't come up again until I want it to. Once a week I review the week by looking at the archive notes. Then I know how much I have accomplished, and then delete those notes. If there is a reason I do not want to delete a note, it is an indication something may not be done. (Or being overly worried.) I then plan out the week, and move around the notes. While this is my task list, I do not put timed events onto here, I put them into a calendar, but that is a personal preference, since reminders will automatically be added to Google Calendar. (If you use another calendar, IFTTT will automatically connect practically anything.) But I am still using Evernote for more of a longer term storage/reference file/project tracking. Pretty much anything too big for Keep, and anything I don't want to delete. This is still a work in progress right now, but seems to be working fine so far. I don't have a specific color for anything other than 1,2,3 items. I can see how to color can be used for different purposes than the way I use it, but I just tag anything if I want to sort into categories, and then the color helps me know what is todays task(s).
I've been studying The Secret Method a bit too and trying it out in Evernote. For Keep, do you still create an new note for each item? I go back and forth about doing lists for each label vs individual note. Curious about your system. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. This sparked my curiosity and played with it and these are my observations. If you just want to use Keep alone for to-do list or quick note taking, archiving will be sufficient. But it limits its usage. I want to bring Keep notes into Google docs by opening Google docs and Tools/Keep notepad. Archiving will not work. You can't see Keep cards in Docs. Also cards inside Labels and Archive, can't be rearranged. Here is my solution: Leave all cards on home page. Attach label to every card. eg. personal, work etc. So now we have one card both on home page and in the Label (folder). 1. If I am working in Google docs, I can add Keep. Then use search function on Keep which will be on right hand side of Google docs and by searching by Label name, I can bring all cards related to that project instead of ALL cards. pretty cool. 2. If I am in Keep, by using search box, I can search by Label name and filter the cards. Rearrange them if needed etc. Thanks for stimulating my mind to look into this!
Hi: Is there a way when you take pictures of pages in order to be place in Keep to stay in that particular order. If a take pictures of pages 1,2 and 3. In Keep page 3 will be the first one to show.
i use labels. i have labels like events and school. i just add the label events to a note i have written about an event i will be attending to and dont use the archive feature at all. i do use the pinning feature for things i must NOT forget to do or important stuff. my homescreen is all filled up with alllll the notes ive made and the few notes i have pinned above. i just see a note i need to find by clicking on a label without searching the whole homescreen for it. labels are great in this.
Thanks for the video very good I want to change over to google keep from Evernote but I am unable to import all my notes from Evernote to Google keep any help would be good as I have many notes in Evernote
Unfortunately, Keep does not have an import feature at this time (as you probably already discovered). However, you could pursue a manual process of exporting to HTML if you had a limited number of notes. Keep an eye out here in the comments since others in the community might have some other solutions.
Hello, What I'd Like To Know Is Why Can't Those Notes From Your Home Screen Go Into The (Label) Section After You Pick One Or Make One? I Say Just Have Them Move Over Directly After. Now To Me It Seems Like Your Wasting Time To Just Move Them Into The Archive. Now I Understand The (Pin) And I Really Like That. (Bob)
The most annoying and a big drawback of google keep is the new notes just get lost and don't stay on top unless you pin them. Is there any way to keep them arranged as " latest notes first" automatically? Secondly, mostly people use phones for note writing. Probably you can use a phone app for explaining their use. Btw,you can just archive by swiping any note to left or right on phone. Much easier. .
CAN'T FIGURE OUT how to delete old labels I created and don't use. I looked at other info on Google but found nothing. So, I decided to seek wisdom and knowledge from the Google Keep guru! You started me on my path to organize, delete duplicates (which I am not sure why there are at least 6+ dupes of every note!?) Thus, I discovered that problem, as well. "I need your help Obiwon Keep-odi". Might take you a minute to catch the movie pun. Looking forward to your help.
Good analysis, but does not solve my problem. I need to delete folder labels, if I want to add a new folder label, but is unclear to me how to delete a folder label.
Pretty good tips but drones on in patronizing fashion for first half which is okay, I understand. Perhaps a suggestion would be to start with an expedited version first and followed by a slooooow spoon fed version that can be skipped.
What I'd Like To Know Is If They Would Come Up With A Way To Put Your Notes Into The Label Section Right Away Instead Of Having To Archive Them. Thanks Bob
