This is a tutorial video on how to clean a C&C cage when using fleece. It is kinda long, but I hope it is useful for some people! :) FACEBOOK: / 258136137552529
Nope. Im still getting guinea pigs February first. I'm getting same gender so I don't have to separate them like that and my uncle gave me tips on cleaning and stuff
Shes done it very complicated. It's not that hard I promise . I have 10 pigs and 5 cages . First the fact that she uses 1 blanket is making it harder on her . Had she had individuals in each cage she could have lifted each up out and kept the mess contained in the blankets (dont shake out in cage) . Take blankets outside and shake off the mess , sweep anything clung to the fabric off so it doesnt get in your machine , wash and done . With adequate layers of absorbent fabric those urine stains wouldn't be there. Seeds are awful for pigs no treat sticks are needed they need hay veggies and pellets. Adult pigs need more space also . 2x3 is tight for multiple pigs , especially males. I suggest at LEAST a 2x4 . Think of how you'd feel if you were restricted to a small area all day every day. If you'd like more info go to theguineapigforum.co.uk or find me on Facebook.
I'm reading all of these comments. I have guinea pigs myself. They have more then enough room! I have two, there cage is a the same size as the half point, maybe a bit bigger. They run freely and enjoy the amount of space they have. She gave them hay, she took it out before the video because trust me, its messy!!! She's a better pet owner than all of us! So enough hate and just realize how hard she works and how much money she spends to keep them happy! My god
@@rayleemccracken9350 exactly. And I'm sorry but you cant say shes any better than us , you dont know us lmao . I have a literal mansion for my pigs not just minimal suggested space requirements. She's probably having issues with the one pig who was taken out due to the size of the cage . I'm not hating at all btw . I think she's great spreading awareness . I just dont agree with 3females in a 2x3 and 2 males in a 2x3 I'm sorry I never will , they need more than that . Aside from that and the seed sticks I'm great 🤷🏼♀️ hay too, they need lots of hay .
Cages are to be a minimum of 3 X 2 per guinea pig ,so ppl stop berating her by saying "your cage is way too small blah blah blah" At least she has given these pigs a loving home! Unlike many who just find it so easy to dump them off at adoption places! We rescue guinea pigs and have 13 11 are from ppl who didn't want them anymore!
We have 3 all of them we're given to us by people who didn't want them anymore. One was given to us by a teenagers mom. The other 2 by a cashier at the place where hubby buys their food.
Thank you for the advise!! I finally did get my C&C built and for the first week I did use bedding as you suggested, but I just love the idea of using fleece! So today I cleaned out the cage and put in some brand new fleece and he just loves it! And so far so good, there has only been one spot where he dug at the blanket, and I just binder clipped it to the towels I have underneath, and it's worked great so far! Still the first day, but he's already behaving better than I thought he would!! :)
To clean my cage I use a special kind of cleaner called Whip-it. It's a high concentrate of citrus solutions, water, salt and veggie oils. It was like 20 bucks for 2 gallons and I only need one tablespoon in the spray bottle. It's perfectly healthy for any animal and has a sweet citrus smell =3
Great video, love your pigs :) and to answer the questions below, the "white stuff" is chloroplast or corex. Cardboard would just get soggy. Chloroplast can get expensive depending on where you live so I recommend using a shower curtain. There are tutorials on how to make c&c cages with a shower curtain if you would like to make one. Also, piggiepigpigs has a tutorial on how to use chloroplast for a c&c cage base. Hope this helped answer your question. :P
okay you people need to calm down, because she is probably a better pet owner then most of you so stop hating on her. And her pigs do have hay, if you are new and you are saying that she does not have hay, well if you watch more of her vids she talks a lot about the hay.
Isabelle Linn ikr and she is cleaning the cages so chill out people I assume she will ad more when she cleans it she clearly isn't starving her piggys or else they would be dead or really sick 😷
I have pond liner as a base. The cubes (wire tied) sit on top and the remaining liner (it's huge!) ive used as walls on three sides half way up the cubes. I don't need any on the front as the hay box keeps the hay from straying, i do get a little, but it's soon picked up. I've only used connectors on the front corners as they do get clogged with poop. Its much easier to just lift and vacuum once the fleece is out. A wipe with white vinegar on a damp cloth, dried with a towel and all fresh and clean ! 😊 Btw, their enclosure is sturdy enough and it works for me and my Furry Family of four. 🐹 How satisfying is it to see your Piggies happy and healthy in their clean house? VERY! 😊
I am taking care of my granddaughter's guinea pig while she is out of the country. Your videos are very well done and you should be proud of your work! I am going to make a playpen for Candycorn like yours (I have a spare room, but I also have cats, so he has to be in a smaller cage when I am not able to sit with him). What did you make the walls and floor of your cage out of?
That is alot of work! Thank you for the tips....I use potty training pads for dogs and cut them up for their corner spots they pee in, and just replace those smaller pieces everyday. I do use fleece too where he does not poo and pee. and also the cotton fluff stuff which I spot clean his poop. Very nice video....don't listen to the immature idiots, you are sweet!
Her cage is plenty big for all you haters. After using my calculator I figured out that a two by three is bigger than a Midwest cage and nobody complains about Midwest cages
A 2x3 is not actually bigger than a midwest. Each grid is 14 inches. The length of a midwest is 47in and width is 27. The length of a 2x3 is 42in and the width is 28.
So helpful!!! Thank you so much I am on my 4th cage with my 2 pigs dez and Squribles and we are now getting a c and c cage with fleece and this helps A LOT! Thanks again, I am subbed!
This is a great video . We're talking about getting another guinea pig , and I used shavings last time , so I'm definitely going with fleece this time . Thanks for all the tips . Your piggy's are so sweet :)
Sarah Mop you only wash them occasionally when they become dirty . Do not wash them regularly. She attached the fleece by using the clips and attaching it to the bottom
I clean my cage once a week. I use the care fresh bedding that had paper and wood shavings. I would love to use fleece but we're not able to do that right now
Fay depends on the type of wood. Cedar and pine can make the guinea pigs very unwell and isn’t good bedding for them. However, Aspen wood shavings should be ok because it’s a non-aromatic hardwood.
bojna1 mine takes like 15 minutes, take out everything sweep up poop throw the fleece in the washer and put in a clean liner, I don’t know why it’s so hard for people
Hi there:) I got my C and C cage grids at target, and the coroplast in a 4x8 sheet at Menards for $40. I haven't had fleece for awhile, but I remember that it was $3 a yard at Walmart, and there were MANY colors and patterns😛 Hope I helped!
I Haven't built one yet but I have a guinea pig and I plan on building her a like 3x4ft maybe cage for her and I know you can get pretty cheap at walmart. I haven't built it yet so I am not sure if it is a good thick enough good fleece yet.
I appreciate all the work since we clean our pigs cage daily, but have you considered folding up the blankets to enclose poo to shake outside in a bin, so you can avoid vacuuming? We use pool towel under, then fleece blanket atop, replacing those daily, but it's a quick fold and dump, then storing the dirty linens in a plastic bin outside until we're ready to launder once a week. Our clean up seems much faster, but we don't have all the extra items to move, but thanks for the video.
Mahalo (thanx) for your video demonstration, esp where you showed how you made the carpeted ramp - it was very informative and helpful to actually see it get done! I need to make one as well for my gp's. I had wondered about how to make the skid bumps on the ramp esp, since they have delicate feet and need that extra help up each step. May I ask you where you purchased your carpeting pieces from & approx cost? Also, your boys really enjoyed chewing on that "nut" (?) toy, it seemed; I've never seen one like that b4, where did u buy it & price pls? Mahalo nui loa (thanx so much) for your video & replying in advance. Have a great wed! Aloha, Amber 😉🤙🏻💋🌺🐽
I'm sure you have timothy hay racks somewhere 24/7???!! I seen a girl on youtube actually make a hay rack out of an old cereal box on youtube if your in a pinch..Personally I would cut the fleece in half so you can just fold them up instead of yanking it out like that...seems like a lot of work to do it that way..I realize the vid is a few yrs old tho!
You can get it at most hardware stores or art supply stores. Art supply stores refer to it traditionally as coroplast, hardware stores will refer to it as corrugated plastic (or they'll have no idea what youre talking about) In Canada suburban (read larger and better equipped) Home Depot stores carry it, or Midoco Art Supply and Office Supply which is in Toronto.
My pigs are usually pretty good with not getting under the fleece. But you can still use regular bedding in a C&C cage! JUst be sure to build higher walls to prevent them from kicking it out :) Also congrats on your first piggy!!!
Thanks! It doesn't sound too serious if its only now and then. If they stop eating/drinking or have any nasal discharge then take them to see a vet immediately. Some pigs can also be allergic to certain dusty bedding such as pine and aspen shavings
I made mine, you may be able to find some premade ones on ebay or other sites. I also have a video on where to find supplies and how to make a coroplast cage :)
Jared Yeo I am making a C&C cage to! I have been asking the same question you have for awhile now. I found a really cheap way that another youtuber told me and if you go to home depot you can get the coroplast (bottom of cage) for 13.00 dollars or 8.00 dollars, the 13.00 dollar one is big enough for a 2x4 grid big cage! you can find the grids really cheap on amazon also. hope I helped!
+GuineaPigSmith i cant find those grid things anywhere. like are they called "Cage Liners"? or....? every time i look up "cage liners", it comes up a little box.... i dont think those big things can fit in a small box. like what am i supposed to look up?
ItsMeMadisonH you can look up fleece liners, guinea pig cage liners, or just plain guinea pig bedding! Let me know if you still need help because I may be able to send you a good website link for buying them!
So you do this once every week am I right? I know that u have to sweep the poop daily but the changing of the fleece and towels are once every week right? Btw, I love ur videos and ur piggies! They're so cute
This helped so much! My mom and I are convincing my dad to get a guinea pig :D I've decided to make a C&C cage because I feel like it is easier and better for piggies! One question... Where can you buy chloroplast?
Melinda Clementis sawdust can be fine for them. I used to use it and it was fine. Now I use fleece which is a HOLE lot easier so I recommend u try it :)
I NEVER wash my Guinea pigs things in the washer....I mean after all it is where you wash your kitchen rags.....I just take them outside and hang them on the line and spray them good with the water hose....All the urine and poop washes off with the pressure of the water.
bubgum00 you're washing it though. it'll come out clean lol everything comes out clean. if your kid peed their bed you'd wash it in the washer. I guess it depends on where you're from too, I don't have a washing line or would have anywhere to put one. or have a hose for that matter.
Eh, I've used cloth diapers and washed clothes/sheets/towels with way more gross stuff than some animal urine. I like using Nature's Miracle Laundry Boost or spot treating the really gross stuff because it's an enzymatic cleaner.
bubgum00 this is why you use detergent to break down fecal matter and urine. I have cloth diapered and know the science behind it. Also, you should be cleaning your washing machine out periodically, and disinfecting.
I would use two fleeces, one either side, altho I do use more than one per run, but you made that look a lot harder than it could have been.. Beautiful piggies :)
Love your videos! I just got my first piggy ever a couple of weeks ago, and he's growing so fast, I want to upgrade to a C&C cage, but I'm worried about using fleece. my piggy loves making tunnels out of blankets that are on the floor and I'm worried he'll find his way under the fleece if I use it in his cage. Have you ever had trouble with that? I noticed that you don't use binder clips all the way around, so that's why I was wondering. :) Thanks!
I have a coroplast cage for my pigs. :) no grid things around it at the moment, I used an old cage lid, I pulled all the separate grids apart and I use them. I have fleece in the main floor and bedding in the loft. And I have a litter box with bedding in it on the main floor. :)
These cages aren't big enough for three pigs, it's the recommend for one and the minimum for 2, the ramp in the girl's cage is far to steep and their isn't enough hay for guinea pigs. Personally this makes me distrust any information from this channel.
Sparkly Queen same it makes me sick that people don't provide there piggies the things they need to live and are wasting money on beds and tunnels when they should have food before any of that
Hayleigh Vaughn or maybe instead of purchasing 5 guinea pigs, stick with the amount that she could afford a cage of decent size for. A 4x3 would be big enough for her females
Hayleigh Vaughn the funny part is that I don't even have guinea pigs, I am just researching about them to determine if I should get some. And yet I seem to know more then most owners.
I love how the new way to set up cages is using a fleece. For the flooring. Must be much nicer than sawdust as well as cheaper and greener How did you train the pigs to use a litter tray. ? We had pigs years ago but I quite like idea of having one as an adult. Would one pig be happy on own ? My children had theirs with the rabbit and they used to sit in their run and play. I live I. A flat so not sure I have room for a huge cage set up plus I have a cat. Wondering if compatible
I'm gonna clear a few things up as a proud piggie owner. Guinea pigs need space however with an upper section it doubles the space they have. Having said that I have a 2 meter by 3 meter run with a 3 meter by 1 meter hutch and a ramp. I have 2 rabbits and 1 guinea pig. Before anyone says that that is not enough room it is classed as a giant animal shed. I know from previous videos that these guinea pigs do get hay and the way she has the cages set up all though it is not natural it is the safer and cleaner to use fleece. In fact when I introduce a new rabbit (like I did a few months back) there was a small fight, I needed to separate them and therefore I used this style cage with fleece.
I’m really sorry if this sounds like a very stupid question but I’m new to having guinea pigs so still learning as I want to do everything right. Does it matter if they go under the fleece as mine seem to like doing that. They don’t get stuck. I have them in a ferplast 120cm but I’ve just ordered a 5x2 C and C, can’t wait for it to come
This method is much harder and more time consuming than it needs to be. Pieces of old carpet cut to size are much more absorbent and efficient than using towels. I sweep the top of the carpet pieces and need only change/machine wash them once a week. I put some wood litter pellets where most toilet use occurs for extra absorption. Cleaning is quick and easy in contrast to this video!
Nice video. I'm wondering what kind of cage you have in the background (red)? The red base looks like it's a nice size for a starter or temporary cage. Thanks so much!
It can be quite hard to get ALL the hair off, you can try sweeping it off with a stiff bristled brush or vacuuming the fleece. When I wash my fleece there tends to be a bit of hair still stuck on but once it has gone through the dryer almost all of it is gone, dryer sheets help too! :)
I'm thinking of switching to a c&c cage for my one piggie, we have a dog, so is it good to put the c &c cage on a table? Also is the c&c easier to mantain than a normal cage? Thanks! Your videos are extremely helpful to me and my Gizmo ;)
GreenieBeanie this is the latest response in comment history but it is so that the males don’t want to mate with the females because if they do they might have babies and the babies are a lot of work so they may have to send them off to a shelter and then that many more guinea pigs will need homes🥺
Hi, I have watched all of your video's and i am a huge fan, u inspired me to get my two guinea pigs, gus and raulph. And they both sneeze every now and again but it happens mostly when other people are around could it be because they are nervous? Or should i take them to the vet to get checked out? Because when they are with me they don't sneeze.....
thanks! i wanna use fleece now. but where do you get the grid wire? also where do you get the white cardboard stuff for the bottom. and where do you get the fleece, sorry i don't know where to get anything XD
I have one Pig at the moment, going to go get another one this week :) I was wondering Where you buy your grids? I can't seem to find them anywhere and I don't want to get another pig until I can build them a bigger cage.
Hi, I also woud like to know how often you do this? I have a 9 year old daughter who's responsible for her guinea pigs. Do you think the fleece method is too much for her? (she's always been using carefree)
I'm going to get a Guinea pig soon and I need a big cage. By warching your videos i thought it would be a great idea to get a C&C cage but i dont know where to get one. Where did you get yours?
Thank you for the video. Helped me with some things. I am sorry that you try to share and people are so negative. Maybe we should take what we like and leave the rest.
It isn't actually to bad for smell so long as it is swept out daily. However I find it can get a bit smelly by the end of the week, whereas sometimes paper based bedding can last almost 2 weeks. I enjoy the fleece better though because it is less messy :)
Just got my first two guinea pigs! Yay! I'm trying to get feedback from the guinea pig community as to why people choose fleece over bedding. Looks like you have to wash and change the fleece every day. What's the advantage to the fleece? And also, I read that they like to dig, and that's why people use bedding. What can you tell me?
I don't know where you heard that, but guinea pigs usually don't burrow. I would recommend fleece over paper or wood bedding because in the long run, it will be cheaper. It does need cleaning at least once a day, preferably 2, but it smells less and is much more clean and cost effective.
It's the brochure care guide they provide in their store. The Care Guides are not on their website. But Pet Smart is a reliable source. Their info comes mostly from Vets. Why do you say that?
ZanyProductionz Petsmart pays vets to say that the products and pamphlets are reliable and safe. Things like small cages, cheap food, and unsafe treats and toys are "recommended" by vets that are PAID by the pet stores to promote the unsafe product. Please do not use the stores as a reliable source of information. I'm just trying to help who I can. If you want to find some reliable information, you can look at who I'm subbed to here on RU-vid. For any Guinea Pig care information please look at the pet channels that I'm subscribed to. The information provided by these people is reliable.
@gorgie Taylor that wasnt iceberg lettuce... It was romaine. The lettuce was a dark green/ middle green. Iceberg lettuce is a very light green or almost neon.
Bedding can be as much as 20 dollars for a large bag and for an appropriate sized cage of 2 feet by 4 feet would be maybe one bag a week so approximately 1,040 dollars per year, and as washing fleece is about 50 dollars a year ( maybe I didn't do the math ;) but fleece lasts forever so a few dollars initially to buy it maybe 50 bucks a year) you save a lot of money close to 1,000 dollars hope I helped :)
wondering if some fleece materials are better than other at controlling the odor? We bought fleece at JoAnn recently, and it seems to start smelling much sooner than the blanket we originally used...
