This is a DIY video on cleaning your vehicle's MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). The MAF Sensor is a sensor used to determine the mass flow rate of air into your vehicle's engine. A dirty MAF Sensor will throw off information being fed to your ECU and during acceleration, you will experience engine hesitations or sudden jerking motions. This video shows how easy it is to do this project, specifically on a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

I had never thought of cleaning the MAF sensor or seen the MAF cleaner. Thanks for a pre-winter maintenance idea. One thought is, I noticed what looks like a rubber O ring on the sensor. I'm thinking a touch of silicone grease on the O ring would be good to keep it in good shape. Thanks, again, for a good idea.

Hey Eric H... yes, that's a very good point on the o-ring gasket. It's definitely something that I'll do next time around... thanks for tuning in!

Hi Alex change your oil every 5000km if u change your own oil. Try not to change your oil 8000 or 10000km. In the future your engine might burn oil. The mass air sensor u can clean it ever oil change or every couple oil changes. I have a 2017 Tacoma trd sport and i have already 265000km on my truck and i change the oil every 5000km. And it still runs good. Great video 👍

If your going to wash the engine try using spray nine on the engine its an excellent degreaser

@@teddymuscio7419 will definitely look into this, thanks for suggesting! Have you ever tried P21S Total? I've never used it but I'm hearing good reviews.

I never heard of that product. I used super clean not the foam but the spray bottle from Canadian tire and it leaves white marks

Hey Teddy! Every 5k even with synthetic oil and synthetic oil filter? Toyota is recommending to change every 16,000 kms when using synthetic but I like your suggestion. With my Hondas, I do it every 8000.

One more thing alex if your engine is abit dusty and u dont want to wash it. U can use tire foam from Canadian tire. And u can spray the entire engine bay and walk away. It will take off the dirt away. Will leave anice shine but and oily shine. U can also use tire foam on your wheel wells if there dirty just spary and walk away they will look like new. U might have to do it twice if there very dirty.

I unplugged my sensor the other day and it set a check engine light that eventually went away. Thanks.

Hello Alex. I'm not ready to clean ours just yet, 30K easy road only miles. Good info though, thank you!

Hey Breeze Rides! Only reason why I did mine with only 16k kms on my truck is because I had the OVTune done about 3 months ago and we've tried 4 different tunes now but my fuel consumption is still at 20.5L/100 kms for normal driving and 28L/100 kms when towing my travel trailer. I'm thinking my MAF sensor maybe dirty so I hope this makes a difference. Thanks and nice chatting with you as always, cheers my friend!

Thanks for the video! Would disconnecting the batter be beneficial at all, either preventing an engine code or something else?

Hey fogduker3131... sorry for the late reply, you can check out my channel for other videos on the tire, wheel and spacer installs but anyway, I have the Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70R17 (33") tires, RTX Baja Offroad 17"x9" 0-offset wheels and KSP 1.25" spacers. Check out these links: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DCAAkN1qo40.html for the tires/rims and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5l79K45dKMY.html for the spacers or www.youtube.com/@modXELA/videos for the rest of my mods/installs.

Can i use contact cleaner to clean the sensor?
@modXELA
@modXELA 2 года назад
Hey Muda, great question! While many people say that there's no difference between the MAF sensor and electrical cleaner, I'm sure there are some differences in the chemical composition. Would you use dish soap to wash your car? I'm sure it's ok but I don't want to find out 2 years down the line that it has a harmful effect. $10 MAF sensor cleaner is not much to fork out for a $70k truck so I won't take the risk. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in my friend!

How often should this be done?
@modXELA
@modXELA Год назад
Sorry for the late reply seagraverider, I've been away and traveling for work. Anyway, this depends. If you just do regular driving on paved roads, once/yr would be sufficient. However if you do offroading with plenty of dust, I would suggest at least 2x to 3x/year but you can make a judgement call and adjust that accordingly.

i wouldnt use needle priers to get that plug off. it can slip and it will damage the wires. dont do it like this guy, use your fingers, not hard.
