Awesome video! I just came across a sweet Slingerland kit that was sitting in a barn, has rust on the chrome and needs polishing, now I know what to do!

I have been using aluminum foil for years to removed rust, works great, afterwards I use a non chemical liquid detergent to clean chrome. Soft wet cloth to remove cleaner and microfiber cloth to dried and shine.
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 4 года назад
Evelyn Ramos also a great method. I find the polish gives the cleaned spots a smooth edge that keeps the chrome from pitting further. For the really bad spots this has always worked best for me. Thank you for watching, and for commenting with another great cleaning tip. 🙏

Hey Kenny! Awesome video man! I know that if you use some white vinegar and aluminum foil, you can scrub the rust and pitting right off the metal without scratching. Works like magic! Then take some of your Turtle Wax chrome polish to really brighten that thing up. Just a thought! Rock ON!
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 4 года назад
Howdy my brother. Thank you. Yes you can do that. The chrome polish actually does the same thing super easy so it's a one shot clean up. Unless of course there's a heavy rust I go to the 0000 steel wool. Vinegar, and foil would work ok there also.

Hey Kenny - great video as always. Wondering if you would take the same approach to cleaning DW satin chrome hardware too? cheers.
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 2 года назад
I used Music Nomad’s Keys One polish as it’s specifically for matte finishes. It was great on a matte DW shell and it’s chrome hardware. I’d try a little in a small spot. If it’s really rusted I suppose a touch of the polish and a cloth might be okay. You could also try a good old fashioned Dawn bath n buff. Btw thank you for the kind words, and for watching. 🤗

Is there a way to remove scratches on a hoop? I got a used Starclassic W/B recently and the floor tom hoops, I discovered, are pretty scratched up. Is there a way to get rid of these, or am I better off just buying new hoops?

So, you reccommend Turtle Wax Chrome Polish? Is that the best? See, I live in Florida and my set is set up in the sunroom, which is exposed to the elements, pretty much. My new DWs are starting to have rusty tom legs, etc. No other option as far as set-up rooms. This is it. So, Turtle’s then? Thanks for your help!

@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 3 года назад
You may never be able to totally get rid of them, but this polish with 0000 grade steel wool will go a long way to reducing the visibility of the scratch.

Thanks Kenny for the info! Will that polish work on the tension rods themselves? I have a 1950s Buddy Rich model WFL Classic snare. Wasn't sure if the finish on the rods wasthe same as the finish on the lugs and the rims. I didn't want to strip the rods. Thanks!
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 4 года назад
d B yes it will although I tend to clean the with Naptha or some WD-40 then wipe them clean. The polish can take rust off of the tension rods, but if you have rusty rods I recommend replacing them. Again thank you so much for watching.

Hey Kenny, just wondering if this can be acceptable to be used on DW 9000 hardware? Planning on using this to clean my tension rods, lugs, stands, etc. and just want to be sure the stands will be okay. Thanks man. Keep on pumpin’ out that drum wisdom of yours man.
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 4 года назад
Scott Quinn yes. The stand I worked on in the vid is a 9000 I believe. For the rods make sure you clean them well afterwards. If you use the 0000 steel wool save it for the worst parts and remember 0000 steel wool only. Thx for watching 💪🏻

I don't suppose you could use some 3 in 1 oil for lugs, could you? I don't have any grease lying around but I have 3 in 1 oil
@KennySharretts
@KennySharretts 2 года назад
You can, but I don't recommend it as much as a touch of grease. Silicone based grease has bit of gunkiness to it so it tends to "stick" if you will. 3 in 1 can be a bit slickery. I find the grease works better for keeping the tension rod in the swivel nut during the gig.

Hi Kenny, a quick question for you. I recently bought a Tama Starphonic Brass snare drum and i was tuning up the resonant head, when i ripped the head out of the collar, i found that strange as i don't over tighten the reso head and in all my years have never had this problem. I took off a reso head from my Pearl snare drum and was tuning it up very carefully (even using the my drum tune pro) when the same thing happened in the exact same place right near the butt plate, any ideas why this would be happening? thanks dude.
@Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 4 года назад
Darcy 809 The snare bed could a bit deeper than the head likes. However I find Tama snare beds to be shallow but wider than most drums. The only snare that I had a reso head seperate the way you described is with my 1988 Tama Artwood rich shell. Those snare beds are a bit deeper than the modern drums. I have several modern Tama snares and they all tune up very similarly so I’m betting they use a fairly standard bed depth and width which on a 10 lug drum is the length of roughly 4 lugs. I have the Starphonic Brass and have not encountered your issue with Remo heads. Are you the original owner of that snare?
@thepluggy1
@thepluggy1 4 года назад
@@Assimilator702 yes, it was brand new. I have returned the drum and got the SLP Mappa Burl snare instead.
@Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 4 года назад
Darcy 809 Thats good drum if you’re talking about the G Maple. Another great excellent SLP snare if you’re looking to try another metal drum is the Black Steel 14 X 8. For $250 that drum is absolutely unbelievable. I installed diecast hoops on mine which kicks it up a few levels but even in stock form that’s a seriously good snare and can hang with snares 3X the price. Check out the demo of 14 X 8 snares Drum Center Portsmouth has on their channel. SLP Black Brass is another excellent snare.
