I used to have terrible oral health. My dentist now reports “you have the gums of a healthy teenager” By following this routine and sticking to a Blueprint diet, my mouth is the healthiest it’s ever been in my adult life.
@@APMATT I brushed a long time without fluoride, it's a bad idea. Also most floss string contain PFAS. Extra tip is chew xylitol gum, it creates saliva and helps the teeth.
Before I really knew who Bryan Johnson was, the media made him seem like some wacko who wanted to live forever, but as I explored it further, I realize now he's just a guy who wants to give out good health advice and help people. He's really cool.
@@Bilangumus what’s the problem in that? if the son is a consenting adult then it’s perfectly fine, there’s nothing wrong in it, i don’t know the science behind it but if he thinks it works and it’s not deadly then what’s the issue?
I’m a dentist and I 100% agree with all your recommendations. It’s very rare that I say that, but anyone following this advice will improve their oral health.
Fair enough. I do recommend fluoride. It’s a very hard thing to filter out so most likely the general population will have some fluoride in their diet, either from bottled beverages or municipal water. It may be shocking to say, but if people follow his recommendations, and skip fluoride, they likely still will see benefits. It is about balancing the bad bacteria that causes caries. Fluoride isn’t the only way to do it… it’s just an easy way to do it. It strengthens enamel and promotes favorable bacteria.
Dental hygienist here. Stop using your electric toothbrush like a manual one! Just hold it at the gumline for a few seconds before moving on to the next area. No need to scrub back and forth as it causes gum recession.
Uh oh I use an electric one and then go in with a manuel one to make sure I scrub my tongue and the roof of my mouth. I still use floss and a tongue scraper. I do mouthwash and follow everything up with coconut oil. I need to replace my water pik.
As a dental hygienist, I agree with this routine. I would only switch the order of flossing and brushing first, then use Waterpik because you need to loosen up plaque by brushing and flossing and then flush the remaining plaque out with Waterpik. Extremely important information about bruxism since MANY people don’t know they clench/grind.
As a dentist, I was a bit reluctant to click on this video, (preparing to get showered with BS info). But I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had done his research and actually shared a lot of valuable information. Thanks for the video!
@tessnf Unfortunately that's the only part that I'd have to disagree on. But each to their own! He's still doing better than 99 percent of the people out there!
Bryan, I like how you're letting some of your quirky personality into the videos and being yourself more and not trying to be what others want to see. Keep being you dude!
You are a brave one Bryan. You remind me of my oldest son. He fights depression valiantly, climbed mountains, sailed the Atlantic in a small boat with crew of three, did wilderness trainings that were so scary to me. He was in the USAF and deployed twice during Iraq war. Two divorces. Both were tragic. But he looks almost as young as you do at 53! Has always eaten carefully, though tends to get radical. Teeth are great so far. Red head. Skin as white as snow. Lol. We used to tease him and tell him to put long pants on because his legs were blinding us.😂 Keep sharing your amazing life with us. I just got my first shipment of Snake Oil today and I’m having a hard time tossing out the packaging! It’s so clever. ❤
As a dentist I agree with everything said except for the tongue scraping , you can scrape it from time to time but if done too often it will cause overgrowth of the papillae on the surface of the tongue hence collecting more microbes and bacteria
Oh, interesting! I scrape my tongue but not daily, maybe every couple weeks, maybe I could do it a little more often but I won't worry about not doing it daily, thank you
You agree with him using toothpaste without fluor? I assume you missed that part. Lastly, I would argue something is a bit up when he feels the need to use Xylitol mouthwash (a sugar that starves bacteria to death because they cant use it) to avoid human interaction level bad breath. That is not normal. It actually sounds like someone with too much bacteria that does a "genocide" of them to avoid temporary smell they produce, rather than fixing the issue.
@@Lobos222if you mean toothpaste without fluoride , I know many holistic fans dislike fluoride but I highly recommend it for all ages , not just anti cavity but also anti sensitivity especially after a deep teeth cleaning and or whitening . about mouth washes, I've never used a mouthwash in my life , its a medicine that I might prescribe for periodontal disease only after deep cleaning and for only few days , although I haven't recommended it to anyone yet , I instead sometimes advice (water+ sodium bicarbonate) rinse but still its only for certain conditions and not just for bad breath , bad breath main reason is carbohydrates intake. I know the (non chlorhexidine) rinses are labeled daily use but I still see it as a chemical that is not needed , personally my best mouth rinse and breath freshener is simply cucumber !
I really appreciate this video. I’ve been in a very complex and difficult stage of grief for the last 2 years, whereby I was on ‘autopilot’ (caring for the kids well, doing the minimum for myself and often less so). I don’t think I even looked at my teeth for the best part of those 2 years, let alone cleaned them or visited a dentist. I’m now ready to face any damage I have done to my oral health and pick up a new regime. I purchased an electric toothbrush, replacement heads, waterpick, dental floss, mouthwash and some other bits to gently ease away build up. Surprisingly, my mouth looks ok (at least by sight alone). Gums were bleeding easily, but I’m on week 2 of my new oral health lifestyle and they are bleeding significantly less and look much better already. I am looking forward to your video to see if I’m missing out on any other important pointers, thank you in advance.
@@haza123b4 I must be honest, I still have days where I don’t do the full routine twice a day, learning to take care of myself again is progress in the making. However, most days I’m on top of it and it’s going fab! My gums are hardly bleeding if even at all, whereas before they would bleed even when I ate food. Cosmetically, I think (I hope) I’ve caught it in time, as my teeth still “look” fine. I’m actually enjoying the process of it all, so we are still going strong but with room for improvement. Something I never had thought of or had anticipated was the confidence it has given me, I used to be afraid to talk to people close up incase my breath was bad or they saw gross stuff on my teeth. Now, I’m not afraid to smile widely and naturally, I’m confident to speak to people, kiss my husband again, and hug my friends. Life is great. Thank you so much for asking, that’s a very kind comment.
I implore you to check out the work of Dr. Ellie Phillips. You need to address the acidic environment of your mouth. I've been using her complete mouth care system for 6 weeks now and my teeth have never felt cleaner, stronger or brighter. Xylitol mints or crystals are essential. Must be pure with no glycerine. Grief and stress actually contribute to an acidic mouth.
@vickis.9363 I'm on it too! And I can sense my breath isn't bad anymore. I could taste it in the back of my throat before. My tongue is pink also. I'm yet to be able to see an improvement in my gum recession but I know that's a difficult one. Goodluck in your Dr Ellie journey!
I only started flossing properly when I paid for Invisalign in my 20s and boy do you miss a lot of food in between the teeth after brushing! Mouthwash will NOT suffice either, make sure you guys floss. Anyone with erupted wisdom teeth, I recommend you get a water flosser, especially if you notice your breath starts to smell despite brushing.
40% of your teeth don’t get hit when you brush… Flossing sucks but it’s super helpful. Never was into it in my youth, luckily I didn’t have any problems
I must say that water pressure flossing seems to be working. As studies shows that depending on how you floss you still have a lot of potential bacteria. Actually it’s more important to focus on good brushing that flossing
@TreCayUltimateLife the wisdom tooth is the third molar. Often times when it erupts it doesn't do it properly so that part of the gingiva is on top of it so that food, bacteria and pus can accumulate there. This is why he is talking about water picking, cuz that way you can clean that area. Ideally though you would just extract the tooth
Thank you for these videos Bryan. My health has been in a really bad place after a long run of drinking. I've quit and I am starting back on the track. My health sucks right now, but these videos give me motivation to keep pushing hard and get it back where it needs to be.
Dude, I did the same thing. My dog died due to "gross veterinary negligence and malpractice" (currently suing them) ... anyway - I started drinking pretty heavily. Like - I was putting down a half-gallon a day. Kept that up for almost two years. My blood pressure went through the roof, I gained nearly 40 lbs - it was horrible. I started going to the gym (and yes, I was going drunk ... but at least I was going), started eating raw fruits & veggies with fish/chicken/meat, and after a while, the drinking started to fade into the background. I had a few drinks recently and it was not even close to enjoyable. The alcohol did its job - I wrapped my mourning up - started taking better care of myself - one day I just didn't want to drink anymore. Three months later I was rockin' a sixpack, put on some muscle and tone, and my blood pressure came down from about 140/95 to around 110/70. The drinking definitely had some lasting effects though. If I eat too much salt or have any sugar my blood pressure rockets right back up for about a day. But I don't do that too often. Anyway - danix0001 is right. You're not alone. Just keep at it man. I'm living proof that it's possible. You got this! PS - if you need to talk or anything like that, message me on my channel - or go to one of the websites listed on my channel and shoot an email my way. You can do it! I mean, I did it and I'm nothing special. You CAN do it.

That’s fantastic! I’m going through the same journey currently, and it’s the most excitement I’ve felt in a long time. I’m 43, I’ll have 17 months clean and sober this week, I’ve lost 45lbs, left a toxic, long-term relationship, developed a routine around my physical and mental health, just accepted a position at the treatment center that saved my life 1.5 years ago, and am very much starting to see the results of these changes in ways I wouldn’t have expected-fully in transformation mode! These changes truly feel like a superpower. Having spent so many years enveloped with negative behaviors and mindset made me lose sight of how good things can be. I get frustrated along the way that things aren’t happening fast enough, BUT as we all know anything worth having is hard and takes time. Calm seas never a skilled sailor did make. Keep it up, you go this!
Keep up the good work Bryan, as a college student I really appreciate how you make me question everything I do and you have really been a positive voice in my mind that forces me to make healthier decisions. Thank you.
5:05 this is basically called a “splint” in the orthodontic world. At my boss’ office, we make these devices by hand, custom to each patient. I highly recommend it for all bruxism patients, including myself. It does feel like a lot of plastic in your mouth, but it’s worth more than its weight in gold.
I slept with my mouth wide open every night, turning my mouth into a dried out nightmare. I finally started taping my mouth shut, and that made all the difference.
@carnicavegirl7214 a dry mouth, whatever the cause, is tragic for oral health. I was spending 30% of my life with a dried out mouth. Literally overnight my oral health improved 100%.
My observation: Brushing at night before bed and after lunch is better than brushing in the morning and at night. As per logic is: 1. Night Brushing: Cleans your mouth before you sleep, preventing bacteria build-up overnight. 2. Morning Saliva: When you wake up, your mouth is still clean since you haven’t eaten or drunk anything. Morning saliva is beneficial for your stomach because it contains enzymes that aid digestion. By brushing in the morning, you wash away this beneficial saliva. 3. Post-Lunch Brushing: Cleaning your teeth after lunch removes food particles and reduces the risk of cavities and bad breath. "Avoid morning brushing" Because there zero benefits That the point
I brushed my teeth every day. But in 2020 I got an infected cavity because I switched to non-fluoride toothpaste for a few months. Later in 2024 I had to get a root canal because the pain was unbearable and the tooth wasn't improving. I would like to know how you came to the conclusion of using non-fluoride
It depends on the kind of non fluoride toothpaste, many are terrible but I've found Dr bronners is a good one, a lot of non fluoride toothpaste just contains nothing at all that does anything for your teeth
fluorides are important if you have a high score of risk of cavities (bad brushing technique, lots of sugar in your diet, a past of cavities, hyposalivation). if you dont have any of these issues then you can be without fluorides but you will increase your risk of cavities cause fluorides biochemicaly help in the prevention of demineralizarion and help in the remineralization if you have active dental plaque
Fluoride is great for preventing tooth decay. He mentioned Xylitol, thats great too & it’s in some brands of gum. So if you like to chew gum, make sure it’s sugar free and contains xylitol.
I think this video is really concerning. Giving the recommendation to use toothpaste without Flouride without giving explanation on why you leave it out of your routine and what trade-offs you are making by doing so will definitly harm some people. They will watch the video, don't have your sugar free diet and are maybe to lazy to do everything you do in your routine and end up only replacing the toothbrush they are using with one that does not contain flouride, because that is the easiest thing to do out of all the things in your routine. Now they essentielly removed the one thing that actually protected their teeths.
Fluoride is a neuro toxin. Plenty of double blind peer reviewed studies that show this. It shouldn’t be in anything . Especially our drinking water . As for toothpaste, even if you don’t swallow any , you’re still getting it into the blood stream . Try taking a dissolvable pill for example, 20 seconds in your mouth and it’s gone . Same goes for fluoride toothpaste .

At least here in Germany it failed quite a lot of tests. Especially for its: titanium dioxide as well as Sodium lauryl sulfate Best regards
I'm curious to know Bryan's answer to No. 2 as well. With regard to SLS, it's not a terrible ingredient per se and is in many products. It definitely does cause irritation/adverse reaction in many people that said.
I'm from a country where fluoride is put into the drinking water... why do you prefer toothpaste without fluoride as I had the assumption that this was good for your teeth? Why do we prefer to use toothpaste without it?
Fluoride is an amazing mineral for your teeth and you should prefer it in your tooth pastes. It forms fluoroapatite which a stronger form of hydroxyappatite from which your tooth is made of.
It’s very good for teeth and has some degree of affect on bones but it calcifies and deteriorates your brain over time, not some crazy conspiracy theory just basic chemistry/biology
Studies show this… studies show that… lol fluoride isn’t that great for your overall health but the negligible amount one absorbs during brushing teeth shouldn’t be that much of an issue. It’s the fluoride in the water we should be worried about
Very good video and recs (from a dentist). We also digitally scan our patients and overlap the scans from the years to monitor tooth wear, movement, recession, etc. always good to have a baseline.
??? Whatever he's doing? There's a team doing whatever he's doing, he's swallowing thousands of pills each month and every second of his life is being monitored. Your comment is kind of insane to me. There's a whole industry of people working behind what 'he's' doing. The mind boggles...
Is it to rinse? I got gum recession and sensitivity. Would it be ok? I already drink warm water with sea salt in the morning and its being so good! Everytime a Flu attempted to come it would go away just by drinking it in the morning.
Salt water has been a classic thing since forever. Not just rinse the mouth but to gurgle as well for throat health and to suck up and “sneeze” out for sinus health. Also good for scalp along with vineagar. After doing teeth care a bit of gurgling coconut out around the mouth is also good to reduce inflammation

Yo Brian.. you need to change your electric toothbrush for a one that works by vibration instead of the one you're using which rubs your teeth doing a mechanical movement. The mechanical rubbing wears your enamel faster since it's harsher. Also you want to use a toothpaste with a low abrasive effect (I use Yotuel licorice mint.. it's also the best taste out there ✌🏼)

I would check out Dr Ellie Phillips mouth care system if you want to reverse cavities and prevent them. To my surprise Bryan’s oral care routine was a bit underwhelming… and some parts may even be outright wrong (like getting a cleaning every 6 months). If you are taking proper care of your mouth there should be absolutely 0 plague build up and therefore no reason to get a cleaning.
Completely agree with you. For someone who is that much into self improvement and health he has no clue when it comes to oral health 🤪I do like Dr. Ellie's approach even though I do not use her mouth care system.
It is good to go to your dentist every 6 months for a thorough cleaning and to see if anything is askew. Weird advice telling people NOT to see their dentist. Also, his oral care routine is sound. It doesn't need to be anything over the top at all. Even just brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once will help most people avoid getting cavaties. - a person that hasn't had cavaties in over 10 years.
@@leslieclawson6319 aight you little nitwit I never said not to see the dentist I said getting a cleaning shouldn’t be necessary if you’re taking proper care of your mouth.

This guy looks like the android in those Alien movies. ''How I fixed my rotting teeth''. Brush your teeth like a normal human being throughout your life?
1. A person needs a healthy biofilm. 2. Brush twice daily. Once in the morning upon waking and once in the evening. 3. Floss once daily, preferably in the evening. I never get cavities, nor pockets, nor plaque and I'm over 50.
@@TheAnimeKers I always floss before brushing. That's what makes sense to me. As far as biofilm, I don't know why some people have a healthier one than others. For instance, my son is like me and doesn't get cavities. He uses a plain manual toothbrush and flosses. His father has endless dental issues, yet he uses an electric toothbrush, xylitol, etc.
@LisaCulton Genetics. Some say the contents of your saliva may vary. Some people just have bad teeth due to genetics and no amount of dental care will cure it. Sure dental hygiene helps but there are people who never brush or floss and do not get cavities. Women also may find after pregnancy that they lose teeth or get cavities more easily. Maybe mineral dysregulation. There is also stress which increase teeth grinding at night. Don't know if autoimmune conditions play a part but some may make the person drier overall.
@TheAnimeKers Flossing is bad as it drives bad bacteria into the gums and bloodstream. See Dr. Ellie Phillips complete mouth care system to learn how to restore your teeth's natural biofilm.
Who is not brushing their tongue???? 😮😮😮 WHO IS NOT BRUSHING THEIR TONGUE WITH THEIR TOOTHBRUSH!!!! 😵💫😵😫 Pro tip: oil pulling (coconut oil eg.).. Do it for 2 mins for 2 weeks and plaque and bad breath go away!
Regarding bad body odour or bad breathe, can also be fixed by going to the toilet frequently, the more you eat the more toilet visits you should be going, if not you have poor digestive function and or maybe a problem with your health. The cause of bad breathe comes from inside the stomach and body also, so if you eat one meal a day and you go toielkt one time too for that no2 business, you likely have no bad breatrhe or body odour issues, in a perfect world you would be exercising and sweating out toxins already, with this method, but yeah brushing teeth is also a necessity. Also when visiting the dentist , ask them first if you need teeth cleaning, if you don't need it, don't do it, because your teeth have a bio film over them, and if you keep getting teeth cleaning your essentially removing natural barrier against all sorts of problems.
Bryan (and to everyone else interested in improving your oral health), I highly recommend reading *Cure Tooth Decay: Heal and Prevent Cavities with Nutrition* by Ramiel Nagel. Hello Bryan, since you always measure everything there is something I am curious. There are several studies showing flossing is good and several showing that flossing is not necessary as long you brush properly(witch many people don't and that's the reason flossing is effective). Did you made any measurement with just the water Pik + Toothbrush without flossing to check if there an actual benefit to flossing? If yes and possible I would like to check the data too.

NANO-hydroxyapatite toothpaste should be heavily recommended here, also mention fluorides downsides. Neurotoxin. Replaces hydroxyapatite in teeth with fluorapatite which makes them more brittle and yellows them and makes them transparent. Fluoride also causes skeletal fluorosis which will greatly hurt longevity. Also, vit D, boron, k2 are nutrients that will improve the health of teeth in the long run.
@BryanJohnson I think the best Complete Mouth Care System is the one by (Dentist) Dr. Ellie Phillips, that is a routine based on a pre-rinse with chlorine (gum cleaning, pH rise before brushing); brushing with sodium fluoride toothpaste (for enamel remineralization with fluoride-hydroxiapatite); then rinse with original listerine (essential oils that kill germs in their immature form): rinse with act flouride rinse (enamel remineralization with fluoride-hydroxiapatite, that is harder than hydroxiapatite). Then xilitol after each meal. Anyway thanks for shaing you're very inspirining!!

Fluoride is unnecessary especially no benefit and definite downsides(however small) when ingested. What a shame the ADAs stance on supposed guidelines for 'drinking water'. As a dentist, for sure it has a topical effect, and several benefits, one of which is the replacement of the OH group in hydroxyapatite to make fluorapatite which dissolutes at lower pH and imparts other properties to it that are considered(from a dentist's view,) better.
One thing I didn't realise until recent years is you're not meant to rinse your mouth out with water after you brush...just spit and leave it. Let what's left remain on your teeth.
@@BulletMagnetJB the dentist says that if you don't rinse and just spit, the fluoride has more time to work on your teeth. BUT a neurologist would tell you that recent studies suggest that fluoride is a neurotoxin. Is it worth it to better your teeth at the cost of your brain? Take my friendly advice, rinse it away.
@@AndroidAquaponicsTech lots of endogenus things (things within the body) are neurotoxic! Calcium, magnesium, cholride, sodium - without these you would die within a matter seconds but are also neurotoxic. Signalling molecules like glutamate and nitric oxide are neurotoxic. Vitamins are neurotoxic - are we going to stop eating broccoli, carrots, berries over fear of neurotoxicity from vitamin A? How about stop eating meat because vitamin B is neurotoxic? I’m not trying to argue with you and I hope you can see how more information is needed when considering what to put into our bodies
I arrested multiple cavities by swishing hot salt water for at least 3 mins every evening after brushing, (before tongue scraper off course, to get salt taste out of mouth). I use around 1/2 tsp or more. Most importantly I lay flat on my back whilst swishing to reach molars.
As a dentist, there's only one thing I don't understand: why do you use fluoride-free toothpaste? Fluoride reduces demineralization of enamel, promotes the remineralization of enamel, and inhibits bacterial metabolism.
1. Dental Fluorosis: This is the most evident risk associated with excessive fluoride intake during the early years of tooth development. Fluorosis can cause varying degrees of tooth discoloration and surface irregularities, from mild white spots to severe staining and pitting. The condition is cosmetic but indicates overexposure to fluoride. 2. Skeletal Fluorosis: Long-term exposure to high levels of fluoride can lead to skeletal fluorosis, a bone disease that involves the accumulation of fluoride in the bones, making them extremely hard yet more brittle over time. This condition can lead to pain, damage to bones and joints, and increased risk of fractures. 3. Thyroid Function: There is some evidence to suggest that excessive fluoride exposure might be linked to impaired thyroid function. High levels of fluoride might interfere with thyroid hormones, which are critical for regulating metabolism. Studies suggest that populations consuming higher amounts of fluoride can have an increased risk of hypothyroidism, characterized by low levels of thyroid hormone. 4. Neurological Development Issues: Some studies have suggested a potential link between high fluoride exposure and neurodevelopmental issues. Research, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses, indicates that high fluoride exposure might be associated with lower IQ scores in children. These studies often reference regions with naturally high fluoride levels in water, raising concerns about less controlled fluoride exposures. 5. Endocrine Disruption: Fluoride is also suspected of affecting other endocrine organs besides the thyroid, including the pineal gland, which regulates melatonin and sleep patterns. Some research suggests that fluoride could accumulate in the pineal gland, potentially affecting its function.
@marcolino708 You're talking about stannous fluoride, which is bad. Must be sodium fluoride in a .05 solution. Even our bodies make fluoride. See Dr. Ellie Phillips..
Bro you look really good I like the new hair and I like that you're not Plastering on little girl shirts you look great... ( Everybody should like this because you know exactly what I'm talking about)
Magnesium Citrate an hour before bed will eliminate bruxism -- magnesium relaxes your muscles (in this case, the jaw muscles) and has worked wonders for me -- eliminating the need for a mouth guard.
