This cleaning/dusting is something that needs to be done several times over the life of a PC. I recommend to get a set of ESD safe brushes and use them to loosen up the dust before blowing it out of your PC with compressed air or w duster. It helps with the stubborn dust that can get stuck in filters, fans, heatsink fins, and nooks and crannies I also recommend never to go anywhere near your components with a vacuum cleaner as they can cause static damage
@@ChaivreMaurteFor most home PCs blowing out the dust a every few months is more than enough. If you have pets or live in a dusty environment you may need to clean it more often. Most people typically don’t need a major take apart clean more often than once or twice a year.
I'm doing it tomorrow. I'll head over to micro center to get everything I may need. JESUS! From which of the 9 circles of hell did you get that pfp from?
@@adamtherealoneI came to learn how to clean my pc but I found a group of people who make me feel much better about not cleaning my pc for so long! 3 years in and todays the day! Lmao
To make your case stay clean for longer, make sure your case fans are setup in a positive pressure configuration to minimize dust buildup in the case. To accomplish this, have more fans drawing air in than exhausting air, and have the intake fans covered with a filter. This way, any places that aren't covered with a filter will be blowing air out rather than sucking air (and thus dust) in. The filters will catch the dust before it has a chance to get into the case. Remove the filters and vacuum them monthly for best results.
i mean i hear that is the case (no pun) but i just swapped mine from 3 out and 2 in to 3 in and 2 out 3 weeks ago and i already see dust inside whereas before it took a while before any dust built up hmmm.
I bought an ibuypower pc a few months ago and I’ve been blown away by not only the performance, but the resources put out by you guys. Such a great video for people who are new to the PC world like myself. Thank you so much!
Mine is awesome. I'm not a pc guy by any means. so take my opinion at that, but I play Ready or Not, Fallout, Skyrim, and have even ran VR games. Re4 Remake... you get it. For someone who wanted a prebuilt PC that plays modern games, mine as been awesome. I didn't mind paying a bit more for a prebuilt, though doing the math I would have saved maybe 100-200 bucks at most. Mine is a 3070. Great PC.
One thing i was always told and have always done was. After powering it down. Switch off. Unplug. Push the power up button to get rid of any left over power in the system. Not sure if its true or not but just have always taken that extra step.i have actually gotten the power button led light up while unplugged and switched off
Havent cleaned my PC since I bought it and it hasnt accumulated any dust or barely any. Still, Im going to remove all the components next week and clean everything, apply new thermal paste and have it just as new. So this is definitely helpful

My computer just started making a whirring noise today, so I took it upon myself to clean it for the first time since I got it four years ago... The whirring didn't stop, sadly, but it's MUCH cleaner now 💞
Just tried watching some guy's video with 2mil views. Had to turn it off because it was so tedious. Thank you for making a direct, & comprehensive guide.
@@micahcantu5905 If you don't mind, if I removed the gpu to clean the fans properly is there a chance that my rig won't recognize my gpu? Or will bios settings be changedV
@@mcmovinup4991 I am not the most versed in building pcs, but I think you should be fine. I am pretty sure that the bios will not be changed. If you have any problems you could always look it up, with reddit usually having a lot of answers to pc related problems. I wish you the best of luck.
I really want to clean my PC and I'm not clumsy by any means but I always like to be careful I don't break anything. Also thanks for the video, it is very informative and detailed :)

Thanks for guide, can be really taunting to open case In fear off breaking something. Had Same case, helped alot. And there was alot Off dust In frontpanel causing overheat. Now my computer is happily flowing cold air :) me and my computer thank you :)
could i ask which compressed air you used as when i used it i tried to get all the liquid out first then i tried using it on my componants and a small drop came out when i was spraying and it scared the shi outta me
@@johnmorgan933 I didnt use compressed air, did use vacuum and when i got front panel Off, did take filter out and clean it. I would get scared too, if that happened to me :O if in future use compressed air, will propaply try some from computer store, just to be safe :(
@@CCImmune lol it turns out i was holding it wrong. u have to hold it upright at all times, if it falls on the floor you have to wait a white for the liquid to go to the bottom. cleaned my pc good thanks for the advice
It's ALWAYS best to use compressed air or electric duster instead. Vacuum can generate static electricity which (in case you don't know) fries your motherboard.
Also if you are removing CPU cooler for cleaning, then turn on your PC for CPU to heat up a little so that processor chip does not stick to the cooler if you attempt to remove cooler.
Also, if you have a CPU with pins on it (AMD CPUs before 7000 series are most common), twist the cooler back and forth to break the seal. Don't use a lot of force when doing this, as you don't want to shear any pins off by accident!
@CJW0056 thermal paste often causes the cooler to stick to the CPU pretty tight. If you have a PGA CPU, you will want to twist the cooler before removal, or you risk ripping the CPU out of the socket and breaking pins
I think the biggest thing is when it comes to using a brush attachment on a vacuum, which most would assume you would be using. With that the bristles will hold a lot of charge, which is why they make anti static attachments for PCs. But yeah I wouldn’t really feel comfortable doing what he’s doing here either.

@@BrovarSpirytus Saying that is a sin in itself. It is lying and the sin of self-righteousness. We have all sinned. We have lied, stolen, lusted, hated, had pride, and much much more. I bought an IBuyPower Element when Ryzen first launched. Got the 7 1700 and this thing is still going strong to this day! Upgraded gpus twice and added 2 more sticks of ram. Cant go wrong with IBP.

I wish I saw this video years ago. First ever gaming PC (ironically an iBUYPOWER) failed after 2ish years because I never bothered to clean it and the resulting dustballs were the size of my hand. :/

use an old fashioned painters brush that is new and has never been used for painting, that will clean and remove a lot of dust, and use a hand vacuum next to were your cleaning so it picks up the dust that doesn't fall immediately
I got this exact case, snow blind edition build from Best Buy. Definitely due for a cleaning. Sucker got super slow lately but like 5-6 years old at this point.
I ended up fixing it prior to cleaning. The cloud based video cards save old settings between reformats, so it kept carrying over bad settings. I had to reset to default, and now it's fine. @@joeyc666
@@joeyc666dust filter on front part went very well. Still need to do inside, but have to swap in new parts at this point. Got the ibuypower snow edition 10 or something with a 1080ti and replacing it w/ a 4070 super and doubling the memory. Trying to avoid a new PC cost as long as possible.
also if youre using compressed air make sure to put your pinget on the fans so they don't tspin, as they can generate electricity and fry something in the process
This was very helpful, thank you. I'm glad I can incorporate a vaccum for certain areas and not just empty an entire can of compressed air. I need to clean my keyboard too.
Does your dust filter underneath the front panel slide out or pop off with magnets? If it's the pop off filter, you can press it off from the inside of the PC (remove side panel) and then pull it out with some pliers from the outside top front air space (from top of front panel).
I clean my pc monthly or twice a month now it’s getting hotter in australia as a lot of pollen and such in the air outside but great to watch those types of videos
It really did help bc my biggest issue was getting to the fans to clean them off all to see I could of just pulled a little more. Lol any other time in life that’s not the answer.. thank you!!!
@@noscoped7557 mine was completely caked with dust on the front filter (which is plastic and not disposable). I used a clean dry toothbrush and a vacuum with a hose. I tried to brush the dust into the vacuum. Other than that, I found that I had so much dust built up that the can of compressed air did literally nothing. I was too paranoid to take off the fan/heatsink for the CPU so I took toothpicks and dug out the fins one by one. Overall there was much more I could have done, but I was pretty happy with the results, and I was sick of it after 2 hours. But I definitely get much better temps and airflow now that I've cleaned it.
I'm gonna need to get some Philips screws, but it's nice that the company that made my computer made a tutorial for this stuff! Bookmarking it for later, thanks!
1 thing the most important from my experience of breaking my 1600 graphics card/GPU/VGA.. Never ever use compressed air to the gpu fan since it will start a static to the motor and you will end up breaking your graphics card! Please pin this to help other

Brad Well done. Pour over coffee: superior to all other forms. Please do a review of the Metrovac Datavac. Please. I know you said "compressed air is better than a vacuum" but... is it really Brad?
I have a question. So, last night, I replaced my keyboard with my dad. We took out the rivvits, and we found out that they are plastic. Instead of using them, we decided to use tape to hold the keyboard on the plate. After putting it back together, my computer won't turn on. I felt something warm, but I don't know what it is. Whether it's the motherboard, or something else. My question is, does tape harm internal components? I'm curious. I'm letting it sit overnight, and I'm going to try to turn it on this morning. If it doesn't work, I may need to call you break I fix. Honestly, I don't think we did anything wrong, because the last time we opened it and hooked the keyboard back up, it worked just fine. And it even worked before I shut it down to replace the keyboard. If you have any answers, feel free to reply. Thank you!
Thanks, I’ve cleaned my PC, and I swear, I’ve never seen so much dust cramped in one place. I think that some sort of gray hamster died in my cpu. I never had a hamster.
I’ve see multiple times that you shouldent use compressed air to clean your PC and it will makes the fans spin and especially the power supply fan spin which will generated power and fry your system
How do I take the side glass panel off? I only see one screw and after taking it out there is no change in resistance, it just feels like I'm going to break it.
Puting your hand on the case doesnt discharge static.....thats only the case if its pluged in and the psu is in the case, wich you did not explain...now people are gunna think just touching metal grounds you...
If you completely unplug the Computer, then touching the case of the computer isn't going to ground the shock is it? Wouldn't you have to use a grounding mat?
