How to Clean your Printer's Print Head

This method worked for me for a completely non-printing printer. Hadn't used it in five years, all four heads were dried up. Ran through this method (using Mr Muscle window cleaner) and the thing is now printing perfectly. Thanks!

After running several nozzle checks that only marginally improved the print quality I was about to give up on my hopes of repairing the blank lines printed by my Epson, this method did wonders for restoring my printer's printing ability. All purpose surface cleaner and a folded paper towel worked great.

AWESOME!! My first pass with the cloth (Bounty papertowel) was completely black. It took almost an entire roll to completely clean my print heads but when done, my printer was functioning like brand new. Used this on my Epson XP-400, used Windex. Hope that's ok. It worked like a charm. I was going to replace the ink which wouldn't have solved my proble. U just saved me a boat load of $$$. Thx!!

Nice work! I had to do the same for a badly neglected Epson printer. It was necessary though to stitch in a quarter inch thick foam pad between 2 layers of j-cloth to make a little hump in the middle. This applied a bit of pressure while cleaning for faster results.

This solution breaks down the chemical bond between the inkset carrier fluid and the paper dust which usually causes the ink to dry. If you can treat the print head as soon as possible once a nozzle blockage is noticed, the print nozzle will clear more easily..

I sprayed a bit of 70% isopropyl on a cut up handkerchief to a similar shape to the cloth pictured above and it removed a lot of gunk! i removed the ink cartridges in the middle of cleaning because i forgot to do it at the beginning. black ink still wasn't printing after the clean.

Easy to follow video but I'm now in a worse situation than before. I had a stubborn bit of Magenta causing issues on my WF 7610 (been on holiday for 3 weeks, it was working fine before). Loads of black needed cleaning off the heads but all were printing fine before, now I still have the magenta issue and no black whatsoever. So frustrated.

This look promising. I hope it works for my Epson WF-7610. I have not been able to print anything off it for a few months because it's so bad. I mostly use it as a scanner now and don't really want to spend $250 for a new one.

Are we supposed to remove the cartridges before the cleaning or we can leave them there? Thanks!

I just bought a new inkjet set for my Epson Workforce 610, because my Yellow and Magenta were low and my printer would not let me print in black and white only, even though it seemed that my black ink level was sufficient for what I was printing. I replaced the Yellow and Magenta cartridges and performed a nozzle cleaning. I was prompted to replace the black ink cartridge. I did and am still not able to get a clean nozzle check. I am so frustrated. Should this method work on my Espon Workforce 610?

I figured I would remove the cartridges. Another question, I did a clean (lots of inks on the paper towel), then nozzle check and a little improvement, then I did a built-in head clean which made it much worse. Every time I did a built-in head clean it got worse. Should I continue to do a few cleaning as instructed in the video? Thanks!

Would pumping the magic bullet solution thru each of the spigots not work?

I'm not clear about J-cloth. I did a brief search, and it seems to be the British term for sponge cloth. Is that right?

I have one line missing from my cyan colour every time I do a nozzle check and it won't go away with head cleaning. Do you recommend I try this technique? I have an epson L800 if that helps answering my question.

I ended up having to soak it by leaving the clothe in over night. Ink was wasted but the blockage is gone from two nozzles. I have my printer back!

I think I may have just ruined my Epson Workforce 610 printer doing this. My printer didn't have a blockage, and the Nozzle Check utility showed all the nozzles working perfectly, but it had a glob of ink that was dragging across the page, making a terrible mess with every print. I figured that this would help remove that, too. While it did remove the ink glob, now I get a few missing black segments on the nozzle check, and color ink is completely gone. The color ink is completely missing from all color prints and the nozzle check. This is with brand new cartridges. And the color ink went away gradually. In the first nozzle check, it had about 1/3 of the color nozzles printing, but with subsequent cleanings, there were fewer and fewer, until they were all gone by the 3rd cleaning. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do now, or am I stuck with having to get a new printer?

Hi friend! The ink port of magenta is really clogged (yellow, black and cyan are fine; I cannot inject cleaning solution thru the magenta port). Would this method be effective? And can I use kitchen paper towel? Thank you!
