Learn how to clone your WordPress website in just over 5 minutes!
Cloning your WordPress website can be very useful if you want to troubleshoot any errors, check compatibility with new updates to plugins or themes, or if you want to simply make any changes to your existing website.

Amazing video dude! This was exactly what I was looking for. Quick question for ya. My site has quite a lot of photos on it so when downloading the back up it has created 5 files to download. what about the background data of the site? codes/snippets etc? also, when cloning should i see the old plugins in the left tabs under "plugins" are are they just still implanted in the site but not downloaded to the 2nd WordPress account?

Great tutorial! So, i like (and use) the Astra theme, but the client site that i'm working with and downloading does NOT use the Astra theme. For me to have an accurate copy of the client site, do i need to begin with a blank slate site using the same theme as my client site?

Thank you, everything worked exactly how you explained. Except after I finished, I go to the new domain and it's still switches over to showing the old domain! I can't believe this, any idea what setting is wrong? And yes, I went to general settings and the URL is what it's supposed to be even though it's forwarding still to the old one. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

Can you make a backup of two websites? I am making a re-design of a clients webshop. Say i want to keep the original, and then make a new webshop for the redesign (with a new template). Can I take a backup of the new webshop too, then? And have both versions saved?

Once you cloned you mentioned you had to use the credentials of the first website. Do the two websites still act as completely different entities, they both just have the same username and password?

Initially, my clone last night was a trainwreck. Then as hours past, parts of the original site started to populate in the clone. But, overall, still a wreck...When I woke up the clone was successful. It took HOURS to clone! Is this normal, or due to the clone having pre-existing pages that needed to be overwritten?

I really enjoyed this video. I'm having a website made for a particular country. Travel related. So in theory, couldn't I clone the website put it on a different URL, and just reconfigure everything for a second country? That way all the settings would look identical and uniform. Thanks in advance

Would this work if I’m trying to clone the website for a new location? Which means I would have to pretty much change all of the current city information that the first website has to the new location once the cloning process has taken place. If that would work, that would be so much more simple.

Basically, if you take backup using the Database + Files (WordPress Files) option, all the plugins get restored on another site perfectly.

On tutorial you have already set up a wordpress site. So that means that you have established wordpress and created a new database that is connected. If so, do we have to set specific name to that database? What about if we use an addon domain at same server (control panel)?

Yes, the database name should be unique and shouldn't match either other.

How can I create a new instance? I downloaded the site zip file, but cant find ANYWHERE on how to copy those zip files into the new instance. hello, a lot of things worked really well but... On the new cloned website, under Settings the dates and the logo cannot be changed. An error message appears "Api Code". The new API code also does not have the option to save these settings. how can I fix this?

So we have a website now with one domain which we want to keep, we then want to clone it to a new domain and then keep both. But both separate, so is this possible? It's possible to have 2 identical websites on 2 different domains but: - you will have to edit content individually - this won't be ideal for SEO A better alternative could be to just redirect domainB to domainA. This way: - you only edit the content on domainA - when people try to access domainB, they are redirected to domainA
