For US PS nonexperts.. .it would be more helpful IF you completed ONE method to the end, rather than starting & stopping several ways to import pictures - how about doing ONE way to merge TWO images... then at least, I could follow your instructions... I know you are trying to give many options, some of us [ME] need ONE option that works for now... regards ... will continue to search for ONE method I can follow and get results...

Appreciate watching these methods. However, if I can make a recommendation, I would suggest that if you instruct two different styles, go thru the first style in its entirety, and then show the 2nd style. Jumping back and forth can become a bit confusing, and drag out the learning process when you combine the two. Again, thank you for posting.

I've been so nervous about starting photoshop but this accessible video really calmed me down. I've watched a handful of tutorials but this is the most straight forward, easy to follow lesson on image blending you will ever find. Thanks Colin. I really appreciate this video.

Unclear tutorial. Very unclear for beginners. This is not a step-by-step tutorial but you use pre-packaging-pictures with all kinds of effects already added to it. For example, at 2:17 I suddenly see that you have a transparent background that wasn't there before? Then you move to other tabs with pictures with a transparent layer and then another one doesn't have a transparent layer.

Quick question, if I’m using multiple photos to add into my main photo for example. I want to add fire to the planet earth as well as the Covid virus. Do I follow these same steps to blend them in?

One question, why when i move the girl on top of the city i don't have to click shift to have 2 layers.... there is a + just beside the photo and when i release the mouse i immediatly have the 2 layers without clicking shift.

Although this wasn't exactly the main topic I 'd think you should at least have mentioned that in the composition of the cityscape at night and the woman on the rooftop the perspective wasn't really correct once you really look at it (perspective lines of the rooftop intersecting way below the horizon of the cityscape). Beginners sometimes tend to be completely unaware of these essential aspects, though, and in effect regrettably produce work with a weird or at least awkward perspective (sometimes even making it into printed ads as we all know...). So in an educational video like this I really do believe it shouldn't go wholly unnoticed - even if it's just one thing on the side.

Colin As I trawl your multitude of amazing tutorials have you ever done or do you plan to do making old colour photos look vibrant & pop? The reason is I have 100’s of flood damaged photos many in colour but taken in the 80’s so none of the technology of today & with photoshop & your & PTC tutorials I have removed the damage from many but the photos are mat as appose to glossy & they look flat & lifeless so I hope you can offer some advice help etc thanks as always for a great tutorial..

photoshopCAFE I couldn’t add a note to Dropbox when I uploaded the photo’s you mentioned my name in your intro so good to know you have them obviously I couldn’t send RAW as they are so old ie from the 80’s & apologies for forgetting surname anyway it’s John Ritchie..Your live stream goes out at midnight so sorry I didn’t make it.. On a good note some of your recent feeds are helping me in my major job of repairing the flood damaged photos so a big thanks..A question? as they are so old is there any advantage in making the resolution 300dpi & using preserve details 2.0 before trying ACR? Thanks as always!

I know this video is old, but I'll comment this anyway for all the newcomers. If you follow the second method where he uses the brush tool to blend the two images, you're most likely confused as to why you're just leaving black lines on your image lol. You have to make sure to have 'Select the layer make' option selected. After you select 'Layer Mask' go up to the 'Properties' tab (below the 'color' tab on the right hand side of the screen) and it will be the option on the left

Would you show how to combine pictures that are landscape. For example, you've got a moon shot over some snow-capped mountains. Do you want the foreground to look? Look like an afternoon or evening with no-capped mountains. But you also want the moon to have the depth to reflect it like it really looks. Can you combine something like that and show how.?

I know you made this 3 years ago but if should make another one show only one way at a time. By showing multiple ways and jumping around it is confusing and trying to work on another computer and follow along at the same time is frustrating. I know I can stop and rewind the video but explain one solution at a time would make it easier for us dummies out here. For some reason, I can't get my background photo to stay in the background. it pops up on top and I don't know how to switch them. thanks.

Video is "OK" you spent way too long a time on the importing images and then speeded extremely fast on the blending part and you speeded through the !layer mask" without explaining in slow motion what it is and how to use it.. Someone with zero knowledge of blending or layer masks or choosing / using brushes wont be able to keep up. If you want people to learn, go slow on everything and split the time equally so its not rushed at the end. Cheers!
