Watch my interview with Rich Roll: • Rich Roll - Reinventin... | Brought to you by Athletic Greens all-in-one nutritional supplement athleticgreens.com/tim and Eight Sleep’s Pod Pro Cover sleeping solution for dynamic cooling and heating eightsleep.com/Tim
At age 40, Rich Roll (@richroll) made the decision to overhaul the sedentary throes of overweight middle age. Walking away from a career in law, he reinvented himself as a globally recognized ultra-distance endurance athlete, bestselling author, and host of the wildly popular Rich Roll Podcast, one of the world’s most listened to podcasts, with more than 200 million downloads.
Named one of the “25 Fittest Men in the World” by Men’s Fitness and the “Guru of Reinvention” by Outside magazine, Rich shares his inspirational story of addiction, redemption, and athletic prowess in his bestselling memoir, Finding Ultra, and in the cookbooks/lifestyle guides The Plantpower Way and The Plantpower Way: Italia, which he co-authored with his wife Julie Piatt.
Rich is a graduate of Stanford University (where he was a member of their dynastic, multiple-NCAA-championship men’s swimming program) and Cornell Law School. He has been featured on CNN and on the cover of Outside and has been profiled in The New York Times, Forbes, ESPN, and many other prominent media outlets.
Please enjoy!
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens. I get asked all the time, “If you could only use one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1 by Athletic Greens, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. I do my best with nutrient-dense meals, of course, but AG further covers my bases with vitamins, minerals, and whole-food-sourced micronutrients that support gut health and the immune system.
Right now, Athletic Greens is offering you their Vitamin D Liquid Formula free with your first subscription purchase-a vital nutrient for a strong immune system and strong bones. Visit AthleticGreens.com/Tim to claim this special offer today and receive the free Vitamin D Liquid Formula (and five free travel packs) with your first subscription purchase! That’s up to a one-year supply of Vitamin D as added value when you try their delicious and comprehensive all-in-one daily greens product.
This episode is brought to you by Eight Sleep! Eight Sleep’s Pod Pro Cover is the easiest and fastest way to sleep at the perfect temperature. It pairs dynamic cooling and heating with biometric tracking to offer the most advanced (and user-friendly) solution on the market. Simply add the Pod Pro Cover to your current mattress and start sleeping as cool as 55°F or as hot as 110°F. Drinking from age 16 to 65,been through the whole gambit. Too painful to remember. Made the final decision to quit. Did just that, at the age of 65.Guess it was that or l was on the final downward track. Now aged 93,and never looked back. In perfect health, no medication.

Man I've been struggling the past decade with alcoholism. I'm sure sobriety will result in many positives in my life, but the thought of permanently removing it and my ego believing I can tame alcohol, has led me to desperately wanting sobriety, but constantly relapsing. I'm on sobriety attempt #999999 and I hope I can maintain it because there's so much I want to do and accomplish which alcohol is preventing.

I am here seeking information and wisdom. My son who is 31 has had a tough year. He had been trying to get a specific job for about four years. He had been part time/ seasonal. He finally was hired with excellent pay and benefits, just as his drinking hit critical mass. He promptly lost the job and I guess it has been six months and he has been through the wringer. He recently was hospitalized for acute alcohol withdrawal with the full spectrum of symptoms including hallucinations. He says he is too scared to risk it again but I don’t think fear is the best motivator. When he was in a 30 day rehab I was shown how much alcohol is pervasive in our life I was gathering some T-shirts for him and had a hard time finding any that weren’t emblazoned with a beer logo. My thoughts are that you need to rebuild your life without alcohol being an ever present factor. Focus on learning to have fun without a buzz. Good luck.

I lost my best friend over this choice as she only socialise with drinking and I realised that I could not deal with her while sober…Being Sober really changed my life for the better and happier… good luck to you all and stay strong…

Alcoholics can't stand people like yo who day they hate how it made you feel. You don't get that for people with trauma it makes them feel better. Sick of reading this type of comment, nothing personal just sick if hearing it. Thankfully I am sober. But with my level of trauma it's hard. You're lucky you don't even know how lucky you are

I’m a year late to this video. But I finally made the decision yesterday to surrender and admit that I’m powerless over alcohol. The lonely and desperate feeling is soooo accurate. And cycling back and forth between drinking and not drinking is so obnoxious: because I’d get a few days, weeks, and even months but the disease would trick me into thinking I’m better or I can a few but it always goes back to benders and feeling miserable 24/7. But going into 2024 I’m so hungry or thirsty to abstain from alcohol. I know it’s gonna be a lifestyle change from now on which is sad to me now, but I’ll thank myself later the deeper I get in my path of sobriety. Also I’m currently 26 going on 27.

Everything he said is my exact experience at 41 minus the DUI and losing my job. So many days I missed worked due to being hung over. Letting my family down daily. Feeling like hell on a daily all trying to medicate my childhood trauma and any other depressing events along the way. I ruined my son’s birthday with my Alcoholism and woke up the next morning with blood in my mouth. This is the day April 30th I said I’m done. I cried and cried thinking of all the disappointment I have caused myself and my family and my friends. Zero recollection of what and said and did the night before. Too many nights waking up in the care of other peoples homes, cars etc. my rock bottom happened and I didn’t stop drinking. I thought to myself I’ll just manage it. Black out after black out I didn’t manage anything. Woke up after a mild event in my historic patterns and said today is the day. I will not drink anything ever again. I can’t control it and I’m not happy and everyone has had to hold so much space for me and tolerate my behavior and even try to minimize it to comfort me. Im only 8 days sober and I know this will be a journey. I’m just so thankful and looking forward to the new person I always wanted to be ❤

I am 5 months alcohol free today and have no plans to ever drink again. I spent most of my 30's in a spiral of depression and drinking to cope with it. I thought I could hide the drinking and boy was I wrong - got to the point where family and friends couldn't stand to be around me. I am going to be 40 next month and am so happy I made the decision to cut booze from my life for good. My relationships for the most part have started to heal, I feel like I have so much more control of my life and my entire mentality about alcohol has changed to the point where it almost grosses me out to look at it. If you are struggling please know you have the power within you to get better - it is tough at first of course and involves a drastic lifestyle change but once you want it - and want it for yourself and not just others - you will eventually find yourself wondering how you ever even lived like that. Trust me when I say I thought I was hopeless - I wasn't and you are not either.

No one has prepared me for how hard this is would be. I’m on day 5 right now and really struggling. Luckily I wasn’t an alcoholic for too long so the physical withdrawals aren’t bad, however I feel so depressed and worthless and I know alcohol will make me feel better but I also know it’s only a quick fix. Today especially hit me hard as all my friends who I haven’t saw in a while are going on a big night out (perfect timing😅) and I told them I can’t go when deep down I really want to. I know I can go and not drink but it’s too early on and I don’t trust myself not just accepting a drink as none of my friends know how serious I’m being about this. It’s killing me. I totally agree. I’m trying to let go of caffeine (mainly coffee) and it has such a grip on me. Anything you feel like you can’t go without ends up controlling you. And that’s a place of imprisonment, not freedom.

I think Rich is great and I don't want to sound like an a** but he's very fortunate to have parents that are, apparently, well off and understand this disease. The majority of us are left to fight this on our own. Rehab costs are ridiculous. Being an addict in the United States is basically a death sentence unless you have money.

Nah, its a death sentence unless you let go of old ideas. Then, no matter what your fanancial status is, theres a strong fighting chance for an awesome remainder of your life. Addiction doesn't discriminate, and neither does AA/NA.
@rubar1025
@rubar1025 6 месяцев назад
@@Shammy_V I get it but you can't detox at an AA/NA meeting. There are steps that need to happen before you can just jump into a meeting. The process is bullsh*t and everyone is told that rehab is the answer. Rehab needs to die. That's just a money juggernaut for pricks that don't really care. There are some counselors that are absolutely amazing but they're sucked into this fkn system. It only benefits the rich a$$holes that run the rehabs.

I've been on and off the wagon for years now. 47 now and drinking since 16 but really started heavy drinking from around 30. Started getting severe pains in my stomach and butt. Too embarrassed to see a doc since I was hiding for so long. Now my liver test results show I have some serious issues and need to get tested for serious liver disease. I did it to myself and hope I can turn this around before it's too late but it's soo hard

Who Cares about Rich Roll's opinions and comments??? I read his book, I read it cover to cover and thought it sucked. I went and I ran and ran and ran and got lost in Hawaii and then ran. Believe me, It sucked. I saw a podcast in which Roll invited Goggin's to chat about working out, running, and diet. At that time Roll was Vegan and he was trying to get Goggins to commit verbally to a vegan or veggie life style. Goggin's is Goggin's and he's like " I eat everyone man, fish, beef, lamb, chicken you need all that when you do what I do"! Roll was visibly not cool with that answer. But when you look at where Roll is and where Goggin's is, it self explanatory. In this video, I don't think Roll is committed to sobriety. His head, cheeks and neck are as red as the sun and he doesn't look confident. Just my opinion.
