Thank you! This video just saved me about $900. Disassembly allowed me to find a pencil stuck in the motor. Easy fix, and your video gave me the confidence to just give it a shot, literally as we were about to walk out the door to buy a new dryer at Lowe’s. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! My dryer was running for only about 2-3 minutes at a time and suddenly stopping. After disassembling following your guide I didn't find anything aside from a little lint in the front and no issues with the belt or wiring... then I got to the back. When I removed the lint screen housing I swear to God it was nearly fullat the bottom with lint and random pocket debris (Toothpicks, hair clips, ETC.) so much so that even a vacuum couldn't break it up. After clearing it out and giving it a good wipe it's running better than it has in years.
Theee best dryer repair video ever. I watch about 20 other videos before attempting to change the thermal fuse in my dryer by myself. Your video was the easiest to follow and made the process sooo much easier. With your easy to follow instructions, I was even able to get the drum belt back on ON THE FIRST TRY!!! Thank you sooo much. My dryer works again and I didn't have to spend $400+ on a new dryer!
Thank you for this detailed video! I came here to figure out how to put the back panel back on after realizing I had done something incorrectly and so glad I watched the whole video and went back in and cleaned out the blower area, too!
At the end when you said, "I'm not going to bore you with me putting the back panels on" I yelled "Noooooo!" out loud! And then as if you heard me, you popped back in and gave me the exact tip I needed: how the heck to line up the back panel. Thank you so so much! ♥️👍 (Edit: Just sent a tip your way. Thanks again!)
I actually didn't originally include that panel part in the video but went back and filmed it again because I knew back panel could be a total headache to put back in. Good to know that was helpful for someone! You're welcome and thank you for the tip, God bless you and yours!
Last night I pulled the lint trap while the dryer was running. After cleaning it out, I attempted to reinstall it but accidently bumped a cloth beer can coozie towards the lint trap hole. Of course it sucked it right in and jammed the blower wheel! Your video helped me remove the back and clear the wheel. I cleaned it all out while I was in there and even adjusted the door switch (thats what the coozie was for). Thanks for the help!
45 seconds in and we already get a great tip! For those of you who have a dryer like mine where the top was down really tight, follow this gentleman's directions, but use a screwdriver to pry up the lid a bit, then the putty knife will do the trick. Thanks. I had my dryer fixed in less than five minutes. At least for now! '
Been watching and googling dryer issues for 2 wks, and this is by far the best diy videos, thank u. Tho doesn’t help me diagnose my dryer issues, it is very informative.
#1 Yes! Yes! Yes! Leaving the filter in is important!!! Because, I took it out first (which I saw on another video "... replacing door switch..."). That is why I am had to watch this video so that I can get the power screw adapter (that fell off when I had to change/fit to another size adapter) that fell down the lint filter hole into the back area. Door switch is replaced/fixed and driver turns on (SUCCESS!). Now I am opening the back to find the adapter (...to make sure it didn't fall into an area that can cause harm now that my dryer is working. #2 Thanks for showing that magnetic tray. I didn't know there was such a thing (never thought of it). I have needed that for all of my project screws and nails! Great DIY instruction/tips. Thanks!!!
My Frigidaire dryer started making a racket a few years ago and I had to replace the bearing that attaches to the center rear of the drum. It's quite a bit different than yours ... it's more of an enclosed drum than a "tube style" drum like what you have (vent is inside the door). The bearing is a round steel ball that rides in a cup. Replaced all of that, the felt strip at the front of the drum, and the belt. Wasn't too difficult at all ... hardest part was cleaning/scraping all the glue residue for the new felt. Bought this dryer and washer set used about 17 years ago and it's still going strong!
Those Frigidaire dryers are indeed quite a bit different with those rear bearings. I have replaced quite a few of those as well. Thanks for sharing your experience, glad to hear it wasn't a hard job for you! And going 17 years strong is amazing!! May they easily do another 17 years for you my friend!
I did this today! Super easy to follow. I feel good about my dryer not catching on fire in the near future. Thanks especially for the tip about not dropping the screws down the filter slot and the close up on the clips. I was trying to get under the flange instead of over them. Knowing how they really look is key!
Nice informative video on older dryers.I just cleaned up a Bachelor friend's Whirlpool dryer from his garage.Changed it from Naturel gas to LP.Putting it back together now and will take it to him to use. Will be hooking up a 5 gallon propane pot to it.
Well done tutorial on disassembly - I just wish it were for an old Whirlpool/Kenmore gas dryer, but this was a great reference just the same! i wish everyone made dryer tutorials as well as you. My gas dryer that I inherited when I bought the house (a Whirlpool Kenmore) stopped heating so I tested the fuse and sure enough- no continuity, so replaced. Didn't fix it. Began testing all of the other half dozen or so possible components; discovered no continuity in the flame sensor (the coils etc. all tested okay for continuity of proper ohms resistance). As I wait for the part(s) (I also ordered new coils and a few others since I might as well change them out while the dryer is open, further research taught me that if the fuse blows it often means that the flame sensor (or other, but mostly the flame sensor) malfunction caused the thermal fuse to blow. Has this ever been your experience? I hope that when I install the new flame sensor in my gas dryer (and igniter and 2 new coils), it heats again! While I wait for the parts to arrive I cleaned and vacuumed the entire dryer. I never tried to diagnose or fix one of these before, but I know how crappy the new dryers (and especially washers) today are and how short their lives are compared to these old tanks. I appreciate the better heavier duty construction, and most of all- SIMPLICITY of the old school machines where you can see and replace each component separately (there are not that many). The new ones are one or at most two computerized panels/ modules that you have to replace (and pay for) no matter what goes bad. I will avoid that crap as much as I can. Forgive me but I MUCH prefer simple and made well.
Jay, I can only say that this video outshines all DIY videos. I leave laughing and with more knowledge than I deserve. Awesome thank you once again. : )
Thank you Clayton! Glad to hear that you enjoy the videos and even like the jokes lol. 😄 I appreciate you always stopping by, have a fabulous weekend good sir!!
Thanks for this! Took apart my Roper dryer and put it back together and it works good as new. Next time warn us about the sharp edges before 6 minutes goes by! I had already cut my fingers twice lol.
I’m the handywoman at my house. Had already placed heating fuse but clothes were still damp! I found your tutorial and followed it to the T after looking for water on the floor. My hose was full of lint and soaked! Cleaned everything and it’s brand new! I wore gloves and shoes. The toughest part was putting the lint contraption back on but I did it. My husband asked if I needed help! No thank you; I work alone! 😂
Glad you liked it Mr. Classic! Thank you for always stopping by! Haha yeah, I think anyone who repairs appliances had their fair share of "re-do's" I appreciate you confessing as well. I think they refer to that as misery needs company? 😄😇 Have a fantastic new week good sir!! Aloha from Hawaii. 🌴🌴
@@WordofAdviceTV , A blonde is speaking to her psychiatrist. “I’m on the road a lot, and my clients are complaining that they can never reach me.” Psychiatrist: “Don’t you have a phone in your car?” Blonde: “That was a little too expensive, so I did the next best thing. I put a mailbox in my car.” Psychiatrist: “Uh … How’s that working?” Blonde: “Actually, I haven’t gotten any letters yet.” Psychiatrist: “And why do you think that is?” Blonde: “I figure it’s because when I’m driving around, my zip code keeps changing.”
Outstanding! By far one of the best, if not 'the' best, on you tube. Always look forward to 'Word of Advice TV" for new instructional material. Thanks for sharing.
Out of passing interest; you can often learn a lot by mere observation. For instance, at 7:39 the wear marks left on the drum indicate the grooved side of the belt indeed goes towards the drum. Such marks can often be found. (Known as 'Witness Marks' by many.) Cool videos, Thanks!
Excellent video! You make it look easy, BTW, kudos to your camera person, great job! 👍👍. I also had a connection on the power block come loose and arc against the cover plate. Blew the breaker as well. Now I check the connections every three months, only takes 10 minutes - oh yeah, unplug it first, lol. ☠️.
Thank you! (From the camera person as well 😄 ) Oh man, that's good that the breaker tripped and the dryer didn't end up getting "energized". Luckily it seems like a loose connection at the power block is not a very common problem but definitely a good thing to check! 👍👍 Amen to the unplugging suggestion! (Coming from a guy who tried both ways)
Jay, I'm always looking forward to your posts my friend. My Cabrios are 17 years old now and still run great! I guess I'll be taking the dryer apart to do some PM service on it b4 something does go bad 😬. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🕊Jay🕊 🇺🇦Standing united with Ukraine🇺🇲
It's nice to hear that! Thank you for always stopping by good sir! Yes, if they are 17 years old they probably have some build-up inside of them by now. I sometimes get asked when is a good time to replace these older whirlpool dryers. My answer is never. 😄 Unless it is rusted out or parts are no longer available, I would keep it, repair when needed and they should last a lifetime. Amen brother! May God make the war in Ukraine cease and may the blood of innocent people stop flowing..
Another great video. Very thorough and informative. I have learned a lot from you. Hopefully someone can tell me if the blower fan pulls air in from the back and at the same time vents out thru the duct. I am trying to retrieve a broken vent brush from inside the vent housing and I'm trying to learn exactly how the blower fan works. Again thanks for the video.
My wife reminds me of that dog cause I ask her one day if she ever regretted 30 years of marriage to me and she said ''nothing'' as well 🤣😂🤣 ... I always liked working on appliances cause I liked troubleshooting ... Great little vid and props to your camera lady ... And glad you gave your peace sign the finger 😂😂😂
Hahaha Eddy I am sure your wife is a lucky lady my friend! But no matter what she says or doesn't say, I still think you are a great man my friend! Glad you enjoyed the video and I will pass on the kudos to my wife of 11 years. (no regrets here either) Lol, and I was excited that we were able to patch that finger back into place too! 😄😄 I mean it was a pretty unfriendly statue for about a week or so....
Nice video, but I would also recommend to anyone trying this to wear Shoes. I cringed every time I saw bare toes. Don't drop panels or components on your feet. They all have sharp edges or are heavy. All that lint in there, that will be much more efficient now after you cleaned it all out.
You my friend are a good man. Thank you for smashing that like button! The RU-vid algorithm tends to like that so I appreciate all of you who make sure to turn that button blue 🙂👍👌🙏
Thanks for this video. Had a mouse problem and found out that they stored dog food in my dryer somewhere. Our clothes and dryer drum smell like dog food now. Im going to try taking it apart and hopefully find the food stashed in it so I dont have to buy a whole new dryer.
Good stuff. To make this easier I remove the door. It removes all the weight from the panel, won’t accidentally fly open, and makes removal and replacement of the panel SO much easier. Holding the drum up through door opening from the inside while aligning the (way lighter) panel onto the bottom hooks is 100% easier and faster. ( for me at least) I’ve only open a dozen or so dryers and each time it’s Only added 10 minutes to the job in total and I get the panel on first time unlike the couple times I did it with the door left on. If someone is not able to muscle the door around or struggling try line up the panel -try it. Let me know if that helps you. I’m curious if I’m an nuts or I figured out something useful 🤔
Great Video. Thank you for sharing, my house washing machine sometime is not working. it had power , light on, but it's not spinning, door was lock. Do you have video troubleshooting washing machine.
Jay, love your videos!!! Thanks for making them. Can you please update your parts list as I see a lot of the items are no longer available that I was interested in buying. Thanks very much!
I dropped a pair of scissors down the lint shoot. I know I can access it from the back. Do I need to remove the top, front or drum first. Or can I just unplug it and remove the back plate? Also, do I need to disconnect gas or just unplug?
You can simply unplug the power cord and that should be enough. Unless for some reason your gas line is super short and you cant pull your dryer out enough to get in there without disconnecting it from the dryer. No need to take the top off, only the back. There are two screws on top that hold the lint screen housing in place though. (Where you slide in the lint screen) You only need to take those two out and everything else you need is in the back.
Thanks for the video just took apart my drier a few months ago it was nasty lol Any tips for the washer tho sometimes mines been cutting out in its final cycle any ideas what it is? I heard it may be the thermistor
Oh yeah! Most dryers are pretty exciting inside since it's been a long while since they were taken apart. By cutting out do you mean it turns off before completing the final spin?
@@WordofAdviceTV yup it cuts out on the spin cycle just a pool a water left kinda annoying it doesnt do it all the time but i noticed sometimes it happens when the washer is on hot water and not cold water trippy just changed the belt on that boy
i have an older Kenmore gas dryer, and my lint trap is up top, and is the pull out kind, KIND OF like yours, except that the lid is ATTACHED to the filter, so i cannot leave it in when i unscrew the metal shroud from it. also, in spite of the lint trap being on the back like yours, my heating element and blower are in the front, not the back, along with the fuses. although the thermostat can be removed/tested from the back, as it passes thru to the front. and are those EGGS in your dryer drum? 🤔
Awesome, thanks for the breakdown. ?: is it typical to get that much crud in the lint area/cavity with normal use or was this the result of a missing lint screen at some point in time perhaps? I feel like taking apart our Kenmore dryer now 😎🤙🏼
A missing lint screen could cause that, but in my experience not cleaning the lint screen regularly is the more likely culprit. As the screen collects more and more lint the airflow through the drier is reduced and gets weaker and weaker till there isn't enough air pressure to move the lint any further.
Glad you liked it! 🙂 Yes, it is typical. Almost every time I take out a lint screen housing like that, there is a lot of build up in it. That lint screen does not make the greatest seal and like Chris said, if the lint screen doesn't get cleaned every time, stuff starts getting through. Haha if you haven't taken it apart before there is a high chance yours will look similar to mine in the video. If you go through with it, let us know! 😄
@@WordofAdviceTV Thanks guys great info. You bet I’m opening er up! Today most likely…I’ll post an update for anyone interested. Kenmore model with the top/right lint screen as you had in the video. Say aloha/ciao to your camera crew, Jay 🤙🏼
@@WordofAdviceTV Hi Jay - hey, I opened up our Kenmore dryer today. I’d say it’s 25-30years old, still running…the crud in the bottom of the lint chute wasn’t as bad as yours, but it was nice to clean ‘er out thanks to your video! 👏🏻 I’m still surprised that the drum belt is so narrow.
Hello good 👍👋👋😊 Jay 👊🤜🤛 ✌️🤙 my elderly woman neighbor is saying that her dryer is making a loud squealing noise so now I know how to fix it for her now thank you sorry much buddy me and Arnold 🐶 are doing pretty good so far I'm doing better take care of yourself buddy and tell everyone that me and Arnold said hello and we love you all
Aloha David! Good to hear from you my friend and I am happy that things are going well for you! Good luck with the neighbor's dryer! I am sure you will be able to get it fixed. 👍👍 I appreciate you stopping by to pass on the greetings! Take care of yourself and Arnold, God bless!!
