Thats cool. I use chicken wire 36 inches tall and wrap around a 5 gallon paint bucket to make 12 inch diameter cages and wrap around a 1 gallon paint can for 7 inch diameter.( Remove the buckets when done, it is just for sizing). I make a bottom out of the chicken wire and wire it together. I place these in my larger planters and fill with brown and green, cover with black plastic trash bags and let the worms come up from the planters to do their work and reload when necessary, instant black gold in situ. Thanks CaliKim.
That's awesome. If you throw in some worms, you'll get some vermicomposting happening in the cold composting process as well! Thanks for a great video.
I’ve got lots of buds and nearly flowers on my grapevine (thanks go to you for pruning video). It worked wheel last year too. I have some pea seedlings, leeks cucumbers and tomatoes ready to repot. I have peppers in but they take longer to germinate so nothing showing yet. I have white icicle radishes in. They grow as many as it shows on the seed packet. Increased height of my raised bed as I only got short and thin carrots last year as my soil is very much clay and doesn’t drain well. Still have had good success in greenhouse beds and grow cucumbers in grow bags. Great video series. Thaanks Ritchie xx
Like your video Calikim, so easy to follow. I started compost with small green recycling bin, Its exactly what ive been looking for. Really fills in with what i needed to know. thank you so much. 😊 😊 😊
CaliKim, I was wondering can I continue to do my compost for the fall going into the winter months and if so, do I follow the same steps. I’m doing my compost in my little greenhouse which is an excellent idea. I love it‼️Here is a picture where I keep my compost. Happy Gardening 👩🏾🌾
On April 17, 2023, Hello Calikim I’ve started for the first time making compost. I’m excited. I followed your instructions and my pile is about 3/4 full, I still need to complete filling it up as soon as I collect more greens..lol. My question is how do I keep the coffee grinds fresh… Starbucks gave a huge supply of it. 1:47
I use chicken wire and wrap around a 5 gallon bucket for a 12 inch diameter cage or wrap around a 1 gallon paint can for a 7 inch diameter cage. I place these in my large planters and add brown and greens and cover with black plastic trash bags. Then the black gold is made were it can be used.
Great job mixing with the compost bags but this old lady just throws the little brown and then a little green in the bottom of a pot and a little bit of soil on top and plants directly in it no fuss no mess no mixing no extra garbage sitting around. I do it quick and easy like nature does it consider how the forest works. I don't like all that mixing an extra work and having garbage sitting around.
If that's what's working for you Bobbie go with it....run with it!!!! LOL. Sounds like you've got it dialed in!!! Thanks for the GREAT comment - CaliKim
It's early July and I do not have any dried leaves. I want to start a compost in my SmartPots large compost sack. What do I use as brown components if I do not have any shredded newspaper or leaves? How do I start?
Just a thought, you can try to scavenge around your neighborhood. Got some from nearby park with trees. Just a warehouse bag full. I'm starting small, the video so helpful. Hope that helps 😊
