Retro gaming is back in fashion, but you don't need a gimmicky mini-console to play old classics on a modern HDTV. You can actually connect your NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, N64 and any other old console to your modern HD and UHD TV. To do this you need to know which cable is best for the job, so this guide will show you.

I have a Core Grafx that will not work on one of my TVs. It does work on my high end, 4k TV except that it is in black and white. I am going to try the avhdmi converters. Thank you for the tip. I have been stumped a while.

Thank you, I just went to connect my Saturn and looked at the back of my TV whioch only has HDMI! All sorted now, I connected it through my VHS Player.

Thank you for the tip with the VHS! I just came here to see which converter box I should buy, turns out I can just plug it into my blue ray player! Works like a charm. Even switches to 4:3 automatically. So cool!

I've got an old Hanimex TVG 070C. It's basically a color pong console with a cable that connects it to a CRT TV's antenna port tuned to VHF. The picture is ok but it could be better. I'm guessing the slight picture fuzziness is interference from the audio signal on top of the video signal, because as I recall the audio only ever came from the console, not the TV and the console. If I converted the cable to a single RCA video cable do you think it would work on AV? I'm thinking no, but I'd like to hear from someone who knows a lot more about this stuff than I do.

So many sources talk about how you need a rca to hdmi converter for a lot of older consoles to work on a modern TV, but fail to mention that even a lot of modern TVs still have RCA inputs on them.

some tv's will work some won't. of the 3 TVs in my house, only the oldest one actually gets a video signal from a genesis

My tv has a RCA. Maybe some smart TVs are taking gamers into account? I have n64 and nintendo wii hooked up to a 5 yr old tv. I did but a converter for both to be connected though. Game on.

ok it was vary informational but it did not work for me i followed the instructions but it kept saying no signal on my tv i am using an old vintage saga gaming station. i dont know what i did wrong the gaming station lit up on the little light but nothing else happened i think i was missing one cored i just wanted to play all my old gams: thunder blade, rambo 3, alex kidd the lost stars, fantasy zone 2, shinobi, out run, enduro racer, and blade eagle. but i think i might sell it all. you guys can tell me if they might be worth anything or if i can do anything else to make it work. and MTE thanks for making the vid.

I want to know how to hook up my old computer and console to a new monitor or tv.. The computer is a Texas Instruments Ti-99/4A circa 1979, and the console is an Atari 2600. Still have both of them in great condition. They have been boxed up safely for the last 35 years or so.

Great guide. Downside I tried 2 rca to hdmi converters to get my gamecube to play in my Samsung TV. Great picture both times but no sound :(

That would be the coaxial option tune your tv using analogue tuner instead of digital doesn’t always work my mega drive works on one tv but not the other
