This is part 4 of my bike wiring series. This week we will start to connect our handlebar switches. The left hand side will operate high beam, signal lights horn and a passing light. My right hand switch is a lights on/off toggle switch and also feeds the left hand side.
I try to explain in this video how you run these wires.
If you step in in this series you might want to start watching how you measure all your electrical components or where I take my negative and positive leads from. See the other parts in the list below.
• I use a Blue Sea ST Blade 6 circuits fuse/distribution block in the back of my bike. See more details here: www.bluesea.com
• The connectors I use are AMP Superseals from TE Connectivity: www.te.com
• The speedo/tachmeter is a Daytona Velona 80: daytona-global.com/
My switches are of a 1999 Yamaha FZS 600

Great video. I just got a 05 en500 vulcan from a cousin. Was running great when it was parked in shed 2-4 yrs ago. Someone had taken break an clutch levers off an handle bar switches an twist throttle. Im having trouble with wiring the switches back because i cant figure out wires. Mine is us model an switches are off honda motorcycle. Year of switches unknown

Another great video Mate, I'm starting to rethink using superseal connectors instead of the original style plugs. Do they use a specialised crimp tool like deutsche plug or just a standard ratchet crimp tool.

Thanks! Yeah, you would need a tool like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMP-TYCO-SUPERSEAL-RATCHET-CRIMPING-TOOL-UNINSULATED-CRIMP-TERMINALS-DELPHI-/253005898324 You can also press other types of connectors with it like the bus type Honda connectors I often use for the single wires. But the AMP Superseal connectors are pretty fine and thus you need a ratchet which also presses smaller sizes together. As long as it has like four sizes to press, I guess your good. If you Google on it you find several types.

Hi Pep, Just finished my wiring following every step you provided! It was my favorite part of the build. Thank you!!! One question, my horn is not working. I connect the pink wire to one terminal on the horn and ground the other terminal. I’m using factory switches and I don’t have a toggle switch or flasher in my left hand switches. Any suggestions?

Disregard Pep, I found out the issue. The pink wire is a ground and the other terminal needs power not to be grounded.

Greetings mate, thanks for the good vid, perhaps you can give some insight with my project, I have the same righ hand switch you showed, the headlight switch has 3 position and I would like to make the following when the switch is the right side the headlight is completely off, when I put in the middle turn on the daytime running light ( I have one of this headlights) and when I switch to the left position it turns on the low beam Sorry for my English and thanks in advance

I am sorry Bruno, but this video is *exactly* the answer to your question?! This is why I made this video to explain everyone who is struggling with this in words, video and graphs... I can not be more specific and more detailed than this video... I am sorry. Otherwise, please start with the very, very first two video's about wiring (there are two parts called 'testing your components' and wiring barebones). If you watch these two video's from beginning to the end, you might understand the basics better and be more confident to wire your handlebars.

On the turn signals, will the handlebar switch make the leds flash or do i need to run a seperate switch in order to make the leds flash. Im sorry for the dumb question. Also what fuse sizes do I need to wire all the essential equitment like headlight tail light ect. First time doing this type of stuff. Thanks

Please watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IjzrEY-EF3c.html for the turnsignals. Yes, you need a flasher relay to make the light go on and off. Most of the components need a 10 AMP fuse. But I also discuss that in the video's. Wath the series of '5' all the way to make sure you get all the info you need on this subject. Everything is discussed in detail.

Hey if I made a video of the aftermarket switch gear I have ( did come in a full kit) but the side light doesn’t want to come on and when changing light switch positions my main beam lights up and rear light goes off? It’s easier to show and explain through a video already have a few if your able to help??

I don't know the wiring from the top of my head. But yes, the whole principle stays the same. That's what I explain in my first wiring video.

I have got a question regarding right hand side switch. I know every bike is different. My 125 cc have two bulbs in front. If I move it to middle I got brake rear light on highlighted speedometer and front beam light (big bulb) on, in all the way to the left rear stay same, highlighted speedo and only small bulb on. I did change switch to new as old one with wiring was 15 years old and had strange connections done by previous owners. So my question is whether that how this lights should shown in those position. I did exactly same way as before and do not remember how it was before. Rest of cables coming of that swith would be for brake Lever but that is working OK as well as kill switch and starter. So there is only two wires to mess with but when I swapped them I only had speedo hilighted in mid switch possition and but then only small bulb on and in far left it would turn rear brake light off, speedo highlights off yet turn both front bulbs on. Just wonder with is the way that you can call normal?

Graig Cameron in this case, because the wires were allready soldered and I added one. Normally I do.

Which one? I just use the standard diagrams from the workshop manual and erase the inside. Then I make new lines with only the basics. I also show and tell this in part one and two of the very first wiring video's. Very important to watch those first. I also tell where you can find them with links in the discription.

Hi Bob. Thanks for your comment. I use a lot of different tracks to be honoust (9 in total). I even change my introsong sometimes. The thing is we are very strickted by RU-vid which music we can use. I have made these songs more or less myself which was a lot of work so I can use them copyright free. Off the nearly 5,000 subscribers I have never had any complaints yet. So there is a small chance I will change it soon. I'm sorry. I am almost at the end of my project so please hold on to the end. I am really doing my best to change the music during a clips aswell. Most of the times you hear three or four songs in one episode to make it more easy and fun to watch. There is not more I can do...

Hey Chief, thanks for your reply and sorry for the criticism, I did think after I posted that you might have done the tunes yourself and that I really should have said nothing, so please accept my apologies. I do understand that you have copyright issues and this must be difficult for many yt uploaders. It's just the one song that does my head in (all the others are fine) and it starts at 16.50 so I have to turn down the sound whilst it's playing - could be just me, but maybe others secretly think the same ;) Keep up the good work tho and keep em coming. For sure I did. But then again I thought: the only thing it does is connecting one wire to the other. I might as well do that myself... it even makes your harnas longer and ticker because you constantly have to go up and down with your wires (in and out).
