If you haven't signed up for Chris' course, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I learned more in the first few weeks of his course than I did in 8 years of practicing on my on and already, I'm shocked by how much I've improved as a result of his course. THANK YOU CHRIS!!!

i almost never sing because my clean voice just breaks up all the time and i sound like thrash. initially i thought i just have an incredibly small range and that i can't shift up or down too much, i just scream myself through some metal whenever it's the time for karaoke but this channel helps me a lot into understanding how to actually use the voice. even though i almost never sing clean, i still find a lot of those concepts very enlightening and i think i will be able to start singing soon after watching all the content from here. THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN! You deserve MUCH MUCH MORE viewers and subscribers

Can you explain the concept of tenors shifting to an "aww" space when they transition through the passaggio in chest voice? I think understanding that would help baritones to alter the space of chest voice to carry it up similar to a tenor.

I am also a big fan of your's Chris. I've had so many big breakthroughs since I started following you and taking your course. This particular video finally helped me begin to smoothly expand my range into my mix and head. You are such a great teacher and give techniques and suggestions, sometimes weird, that really help. I am so grateful for how you teach and how you break singing down into so many learnable pieces and skills. My favorite thing about you is how you've helped me love playing with my voice and exploring. I went from not singing at all anywhere to noodlingaround with singing in the car, supermarket, while walking, at home, in the shower. All over! My other half feels like they are in the twilight zone w/ my alien sounds. Thank you Chris! Thank you for your skill, kindness, knowledge, heart and being in it w/ your students. Love your spirituality as well. thanks

Prior to stumbling on a video from you yesterday I was trying to practice with Ken Tamplin’s videos. I think you’re a much better teacher (for me at least). After this video I was connecting to things I’d learned in earlier lessons in person from teachers and feeling much more confident. For me, I lose my technique by psyching myself out mentally and forgetting to connect with my body properly if that makes sense. I’m subscribing and excited for more. Thank you!

This was really great. I’m just getting into my chest voice after singing in head for so many years and not engaging the chest and what a world a difference it makes to add some meat to the head. This really helped me break down the difference between the two worlds of head and chest and how to approach the head, when coming from chest. I like the analogy of giving chest voice gas, and when going into head, let off the gas. Great analogy!! Great video. Thank you so much ♥️🙏🏾

MAN i already commented on 3 videos at least but i cant say that enough, Chris, You are an amazing singer and teacher and what i think it makes you so good is that you actually don't get too worried about a lot of terms that normally just makes us more confused. You just go for the sound, and thats music, thats what actually matters!! I thnik its amazing when you demonstrate the process of getting the technique, it motivates me a lot because I start the same way you show in the beginning and i know that practicing a lot after some time ill be singing the same way you demonstrate at the end!
@annelowevoicegeneration

It's much more specific when the demonstration is dry. I love how you are implementing some nasalised Twang into your falsetto demonstration. That mix of quality gives more stability and brassy punch to the acoustics. Great vid.

Legends say that if you practice Chris' methods but you do not join his free vocal course for the right support, a ghost will come to your house each night and practice all his singing techniques in your bedroom and you will never EVER be able to close an eye again unless you can teach the ghost good support... Because the ghost won't succeed in any of the excercises due to not having the right support and the curse will be lifted once he is happy with his sound and no pain in the voice!

My voice coach (classical style) teaches me a lot of the same stuff you teach Chris, and she always says "Singing is a lot of buggery" meaning we actually often fool the listener that we are NOT in fact singing in head voice when in fact we are (during the highg notes) by: 1) Blending with a little bit of a chesty sound by adding "twang" to head voice 2) Smooth out the transtitions with proper breath support so you never notice the singer going into head voice From a singers perspective, its a lot like moon walking, looks cool as hell from the outside but when you learn to do it its a bit lack luster :)

I found that Smule (the app) where you can record yourself singing these songs is very useful for testing out what actually sounds right, where you can experiment with chest-to-head, how hard (or soft) to drive the head voice, nasal versus the back of the throat, airflow and compression, etc.

It would be really interesting to see a video on Brent Smith from Shinedown. He seems to effortlessly transition between ranges and add both grit and clean resonance whilst maintaining massive power, and his baritone sound. I feel all of the Shinedown songs are challenging in many ways, both melodically and physically as he seems to sit in that "difficult range" for almost every song! Him, Chris C, Myles K, and Layne S are definitely my favourite singers, so it would be interesting to see your opinion on his stuff for Shinedown and Smith & Myers (more recently).

I was just thinking today when recording, how singing the upper register is loud but more relaxed than TALKING! Watching this video i wonder if it is hard to talk so much, then do an accurate mixed voice singing example? That alone may be more challenging than just singing !

Hi Chris! Always love your videos! Surprised to see this video receiving so little comment though! I’d like to ask how different it is in the sensation to bridge into head voice using this nasality as opposed to pushing up using mixed voice? Since the bridging that you demonstrated here sounds less intense than most of the mixed voice that you do in other video! I’m asking because I have tendency to transition into head voice much earlier since I want to avoid my vocal break, and I think I can do reallly compressed head voice, but I’m kind of stilll stuck in head for quite a long time, and I really want to sing in powerful mixed voice as well.
@chrisliepe
@chrisliepe 4 года назад
You found an unlisted video :) Very few people know it exists yet! You can push up into mix either way... this is just a different way to resonate (nasal) that helps bridge the gap into pure head easier (I have found)

With time and practice, things start to make sense. I am trying to sing 'Where did you sleep last night' as performed by Nirvana in the MTV unplugged in NY, and guess where I am stuck... Where K.C. starts to go high and breaking. From your newest video, I came back here. Now, he breaks his voice, but anyway, this is helpful, since it useful to blend and to break. By the way, in your course 'Discover your voice', you talk about this as well, so I recommend it as well. It takes patience, practice, useful advices, with some structure. And the course gives the structure.

One of the first pieces of good advice I got from my vocal coach, the late, great Dini Clarke was, "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE MIC" as much as possible. That's what mic stands are for. Hands on the mic increase risks of unnecessary distortion.
@chrisliepe
@chrisliepe 4 года назад
I'd have to completely and respectively disagree. Don't block the mic with your hands or cup it, but if grabbing the mic and digging into it helps you dig into the emotion or intensity of what you are doing without awkward tension being introduced... GO for it :) It depends on the mic too. But if it is designed to be handheld... why not!?
@eainc.708
@eainc.708 4 года назад
@@chrisliepe why not? Because it's a microphone and some mics are extremely sensitive meaning the mere touching of it is recorded as sound or vibration. I personally chose to breakof the habit. I find the grabbing of the mic is more a learned behavior then something that adds emotional impact. Plus it gives me more freedom to be expressive with my hands.
