I don't believe so. Essentially what this is doing is converting the video signal so that the PC and ASD play nice and the USB-A sticking out the cable is for data as HDMI and DP do not carry data. Only Thunderbolt carries both, but no graphics card has Thunderbolt outputs.

Bought the cable and tried. Not working for me. It's displaying in safe mode but not displaying anything when loading windows normally. I reinstalled windows without success. I think it could be connected to the GPU. I use Radeon 580rx.

Having exactly same issue right now with Nvidia 1050ti, did you fix it somehow? I'll try tomorrow to install latest nvidia drivers and bootcamp drivers, please let me know if you were able to fix it

@@dmitrypetrov7902 yes, I replaced the GPU and it worked without an issue. Some older GPUs don't support the resolution at all.

Hey! I asked my local Apple Store if they had a cable like the one in your description, but they told me the cable wouldn’t work in this situation? Which is weird cause it clearly does for you. They are saying you will need displayport to thunderbolt instead of displayport to usb c. Do you have any idea why they are saying this?

So I just plugged this cable in and I can see it's trying to work - the screen is flickering between different shades of black, but I'm getting no screen. Anyone had this issue? Is is an issue with the GPU? If so, what GPU do we need in our Windows machines to get this screen to work? I'm using Geforce GTX 1060 which I'm assuming isn't good enough?

there`s no way to change the brightness in this case. it`s disappointing, right? :( I had to install an app called Darker Reader so I can work at night - otherwise, it's way too bright.

Bought the HDMI option from the link you refer to, and so far i've tested it on 3 different pc's without getting any life signal at all. After some comparing to other peoples experiences it seems to me like the only working option is the Displayport cable and not HDMI?

The link you have is a display port correct but the secondary option you can choose on that link is HDMI. Besides at 1:33 you show the cable and call it HDMI. Just pointing it out because it could lead other people to make a wrong purchase

Hi so basically i have a Windows laptop ROG Strix G18 2023 with two ports , one is thunderbolt 4 and second is usb 3.2 gen 2 usb type c with display port enabled which also has the PD enabled. so i have three questions 1. will thunderbolt 4\3 enabled imacs work as a target display or external monitor 2. I had to get the HDMI version of the cable since I don't have a DP. It doesn't seem to work at all. My machine is a PC that is dual boot with MacOS Catalina (hackintosh) and Linux mint 21. I didn't expect the Mac Os to work since the studio display is only supported with OS 14.x and higher. But on Linux, nothing at all. If I connect a high speed USB-C cable from my PC (not thunderbolt) to the studio display, the microphone, webcam and speakers work with no special drivers, but no picture. Once I switch to the Amazon cable, I don't get any of those features even though I have it plugged into a USB 3 port. My graphics is the built in intel UHD 630 which through HDMI can only do 4K @24Hz. So I guess I"m stuck with 2 monitors . Linux has done great with the studio display from what I've read. The support for it is built into the newer kernels and they have a driver now to adjust the brightness. So, I guess if you have a PC with a thunderbolt port, it probably will work fantastically right out of the box with Linux.

Did have the studio display and it worked with my pc, but i brought the display back, because of the mediocre respons times in games and the 60 hz... The ASD is not worth its price.

I used the this cable and method and worked really well for a week but then my PC tried to update it failed and on restart the studio display fails to come on. Been dead all day. I've tried the studio display with a mac laptop and worked immediately. But the Pc fails to get the monitor to turn on. UPDATE: I read a few mac users have had the studio display screen stuck on black had some success by unplugging the screen from power and computer waiting 5-10 minutes then plugging everything back in and starting up. So I tried it and it worked!

I have testet the Displayport 1.4 to USB-C supports up to 4K 144 HZ and 4K 60hz cable from my GPU to my Apple Studio Monitor. I can see it under my advanced display settings but it says: Display 2 isn't active. In the Nvida settings I see it to under: Set up multiple displays, but I can't checkmark it for some reason. What could be wrong? My GFX is a 2080 RTX. Plz help!

Thanks Jaime for your Tip on using the DP+USB to USB-C Cable! Really helpful. Quick Question, if you have 2x 5K Apple Studio Displays, could you daisy chain the Video and/or Audio from Display 1 to 2? Even daisy chaining the Audio would helpful, so the PC audio driver can power speaker on both Displays. Cheers.

OK, just checked, You cannot Daisy chain between 5K Apple Studio Display, as the Displays have NO Output for Video, only Data. So each Display needs its own DP+USB-A to USB-C Cable, and will use MacOS Audio MIDI to send Audio to both Display speakers over each cables USB-A output. Cheers.

I own 2 studio displays. You cannot daisy chain unfortunately. You also can’t use both in a stereo speaker configuration unless you use a program called Loopback to create a virtual audio interface. I’m no audio engineer but I swear the sound while louder, doesn’t sound as “refined” as a single display. I’ve tried both split and clone for the audio and it just doesn’t sound balanced.

The ports on the back of the Studio Display are NOT Thunderbolt. They are USB-C ports that run at USB 2.0 speeds.

what default brightness does the display come in at? Also are you able to change the color temp? Yeah wish it had dedicated buttons to do these changes for the sake of using these with PC, I want this for my work and so my eyes dont stain as much

It will recall the last brightness you left it with the Mac. It will turn change the color temp in Windows settings to reduce blue light

Just bought the DP cable linked, but it's not currently working :( My mac laptop works perfectly with the display using the original thunder cable, and I updated the display, but plugging this cable into my windows leads to the sound of a usb device connected and just a black screen...anything extra we need to do to get this to work?

It's the display port and not HDMI? and the USB-A is plugged into a port than can deliver 2.0 speeds (usually blue)

You can’t adjust brightness (runs at full brightness) and you can’t auto switch. Must change cable

To add onto this, you would need a Mac to adjust the brightness and the display will maintain that setting when you switch to PC

save yourself time and get the belkin charge & sync cable. it might be a hefty price but it will solve all your problems. The camera, mic, usb and speakers will work fine and communicate well with the bootcamp drivers.
