Time for me to put down my grub control but in the process I found out some key important information. Link Down Below www.canr.msu.e... #Spectracide #BioAdvanced #GrubControl #Lawnamateur #Grubs
Dont know why Bio Advanced does this but they have two different products with the same name "Complete Insect Killer" that each have different ingredients. Although one of those products also has the words "2 Way" on label as well. That one contains imidacloprid which does kill grubs and is the best grub "preventer" out there when applied in early June. It will kill inmature grubs that develop in July and August. But if you need to kill mature grubs that wintered in your yard and are surfacing in the spring or grubs that matured somewhat because you didn't apply imidacloprid in June and are doing damage in Sept you need the "curatives" carbaryl (in the product Sevin) or trichlorfon (in Dylox) for that job. The curatives will say "kills in 24 hours" The preventatives will say "Season long protection" or "3 month control. You are exactly correct in that Specticde's Triazicide does not kill grubs even though they picture grubs on the label. It's confusing but I watched Allyn Hane the Lawn Care Nut and he explains this and Brian Mounts The Lawn Mechanic talks about the issue with the Spectracide product.
Over the years, I've always had great success controlling grubs with Bio Advanced Complete Insect killer. But last season, much to my chagrin, like yourself, I caught a great sale on Spectracide Triazicide, and decided to try and save myself a little cash and rolled with it. Bad move!!! Spectracide turned out to be totally ineffective controlling grubs, and the grubs came back in full force. So, this season, I switched back to Bio Advanced.
You had me doing my homework on this one. I think I have some experience with those chemicals. The Spectracide I do not have any experience with the gamma-cyhalothrin. I used it once in El Paso, it was okay on spiders but that is what I used it for. Bio-Advanced: Beta-Cyfluthrin and Imidacloprid. That is what you want for grubs and ants. Imidacloprid gets down into the plant once it is watered in since it is systemic. Any bugs that munch on it will have their day. cyfluthrin’s are a quick acting toxin. The higher the percent the worse it is. The bad part is it kills bees. The good part is it kills ants fast even before you water it in. (Imidacloprid and Cyfluthrin) is found in liquid form made by Bayer. It is called Temprid. Great for spraying every three months in the home to keep the bugs out, can do a perimeter spray to keep ants away, also treat trees with to keep beetles and other bugs from invading. remember it will kill pollinators. Bifentrin: Is in the granular Sevin, you may try that for grubs. It kills the moth. It also kills mosquitoes. It destroys ants in mere minutes. Sevin also has a chemical Zeta-Cypermethrin I need to do more research on. I been happy with the results so far. It is the same deal. Bag of granular insect/bug control. And grub killer. I have not seen grubs in my yard but my neighbor has zipper marks from field ants. I used a cup of Sevin and thousands were gone in an hour. This was a few days ago. I have three poodles and three kids so I need to control the pests in the back yard. The Sevin controls mosquitoes quite a bit. There is that chemical Bifenthrin and can be found in liquid high concentration (Talstar). I hope all this helps. Best to you!
So does spectracide triaziide kill grubs? It says here it doesnt www.canr.msu.edu/news/how_to_choose_and_when_to_apply_grub_control_products_for_your_lawn
I had a couple bags of spectracide laying around so I’m using it up. I don’t actually depend on it for grubs. I means it was bought because of the picture of grubs but I will continue to use it for fleas and ticks.
I'm in MN and our extension office says to put down Bioadvanced in mid August to kill the grubs which are laid by beetles during the Summer. Doing it earlier just weakens it. Good video.
That Spectracide definitely kills grubs. I just used it a couple weeks ago. My back yard was all bare ground and it was almost completely covered with little mounds of dirt popping up all over the place. I assumed it was some sort of insect until I picked up a piece of plywood that I was using as a surface for a little project at the corner of my yard, there were a half dozen grubs underneath. So, I went out to Lowes and grabbed something for grubs & insects, they had the spectracide on sale (I had never used it). I put it down when I knew a rain was coming and the next morning ALL of the grubs were above ground! Most were dead and the rest we’re squirming for life. I’d never seen anything like it, it looked like it had rained popcorn on my yard. Thick white grubs all over the yard. Trust me, it works.
According to the study they said the active ingredient in spectracide didn't kill grubs. I also used spectracide products myself so I was shocked by what the study stated. But I'm glad you've had success with the product. Spectracide is a great product for the price. 👌
I know this thread is two years old but I will say I agree with you. I heard the same that it didn't kill grubs. I put grubs in two buckets with dirt on top of them, one had nothing in it, one I put the Triazicide on top and lightly watered it in. This morning the ones in the bucket with nothing but dirt are alive and well and the ones with the Triazicide in it are all dead or dying.
I can tell u the Bioadvanced kills a ton of grubs...brings them to the surface...and I have pictures also. Front yard about 8k SQ ft ..I pulled about 100 grubs from lawn....put them on the burn pile and lit them up. Popcorn! I just bought 10 bags at 6$ of the 10lb Spectracide at at Lowes...sale ends 5/31/23
I've used the spectracide product and had success with grubs. The chemical does not kill them, but it makes them not want to eat, which causes them die. Technically the study wouldn't be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it was testing the correct thing for our purposes.
@@wazup3333 actually I was somewhat mistaken. The Bioadvanced Complete Insect Killer contains imidacloprid which is a neonicotinoid which makes them not want to eat. The Triazicide does not contain any neonicotinoids, so it must work in a different way. The reason I thought the Triazicide contained imidacloprid is because it says season long control, I didn't notice the "*for ants" part. Neonicotinoids are used for season long control against grubs. I have personal experience with the Triazicide and have had very good and quick results. I cannot explain why the studies had different results.
@@philipkaiser1232 well that study said the gamma active ingredient doesnt kill grubs www.canr.msu.edu/news/how_to_choose_and_when_to_apply_grub_control_products_for_your_lawn
Thanks for the info. Last year I discovered there were grubs in my lawn. I must say I did have pretty good luck using Spectracide. Once I applied it to the lawn, hours later, I noticed the grubs were dead. As a preventative, I may use another product to keep them from coming back.
In my opinion after watching the video twice, and hearing you say that BioAdvanced has Bifentrin in it I assume it will kill the beetle that lays the grub eggs. With the Beta-Cyfluthrin and Imindacloprid it will kill other cycles since systemic action occurs. I am not feeling that Spectracide though! I have to do a project to see for myself on that. I can speak for the product Sevin and I know the BioAdvanced has the chemicals in it to do the same. Thar fungus looks as good as gone by the way. Your 4th of July yard will look great. By the way do not forget to use pesticide in the garden beds, critters love to hide in the shade, you are going after that beetle. Cheers💪👍
Thank you and I agree about the spectracide insect killer. I need to see more info about it. Spectracide weed killer works good but the insect killer is questionable against grubs. I would love to see what spectracide has to say. I appreciate your info and knowledge thanks alot
Wasted my money on the spectracide. Getting the bioadvanced 24 hour grub killer now and if it works I'll use their preventative next year. Bioadvanced 24 hour uses trichlorfon that will kill grubs. The bioadvanced used to be bayer and it uses the same active ingredient but could not use the patented active ingredient name.
I can't say about deep grubs, but I can say that while I've had grubs in the past, we have a lot of skunks, armadillos, and possums, but NONE of them in my yard while they rummage through many of my neighbors' yards getting grubs. I use Spectracide Triazicide, so I'd say it works on grubs.
I'm gonna give this stuff a try I bought the two Bags on Amazon for only $13.00 Dollars we have a major problem Year after Year with Moles we've tried everything from Traps to Poison to Sonic Spikes to Juicy Fruit Gum and we still see lots of Mole Hills. We used Milky Spore Grub Control in the past and that worked for getting rid of the Moles but Milky Spore is around $50.00 Dollars a Bag and I'm not really one to spend a lot on Lawn Care so I hope this stuff works just as good as Milky Spore did.
The Imadocloprid in the Bioadvanced RTS is best for killing grubs. Bifenthrin is has been used for a very long time for its effectiveness. Carboryl aka Sevin is anothet compound for grub control. I do a Bioadvanced granular in the Spring for grubs or early summer. Then follow it up with the Bioadvanced RTS in the Fall here in Texas for chinch bugs.
I was using this in my garden earlier on in the week. I had just tilled the ground before I started planting my plants and I had used the spectracide in the garden. I was surprised to see that it was killing the grubs almost immediately after I had put it into the garden. I was impressed, not sure why no one else had had luck with it killing the grubs maybe its because they are not using enough of it in the spot they're trying to control their grubs at? It worked well for me.
How do you know they were dieing? I think its a preventative for grubs but wont kill here is what it says it wont kill grubs www.canr.msu.edu/news/how_to_choose_and_when_to_apply_grub_control_products_for_your_lawn
I have used the Bioadvance formula but it's the spray that you hook to a garden hose not the granules have had good luck with that I've used it a couple of times over the last few years and it does kill grubs In fact I just sprayed sections of my backyard cause I've noticed Japanese BeatlesI'll check it out in a couple of days and hopefully it kills those grubs
Just applied the spectracide and the next day the adult grubs were all over the yard. I did spend to much time hand picking them up.😂😂😂 last thing I need is them to survive and get even stronger. Also I did apply to cut grass and only lightly watered it in...not sure why some people say it didn't work
Same experience I had-put it down yesterday and watered lightly (probably not enough). Grubs come up out of the ground trying to escape it-ground was covered with dead and dying grubs the next morning. Picked up a bucket full, still plenty there.
Spectracide does not kill grubs but is does work for other bugs.... and that is a fact because I placed this in my yard and around the border of my house and still no effect
I tried the Spectracide for grubs and it didn't work. Ended up having to use the Complete Insect Killer. I like the Spectracide for everything else. I bought imidacloprid and will spray it this year.
@@LawnAmateur i applied the spectricide product before watching your video. I also applied dawn soap with water in a sprayer. If those dont work i will go buy the ones you suggest. Thanks..i will give it 3 days...
If you get a new (2023) bag of Spectracide Triazicide, you will notice that the lower picture on bag no longer shows a grub and grubs are no longer listed on the back of the bag. I guess the maker finally realized their product didn't do what they had earlier claimed it did. The bag in the video is from 2022... the bag made in 2023 is different now.
The old 10lb bags with grub pic are selling for $6 on Amazon. I bought two which came in today before reading all this info on the web that it supposedly doesn't kill grubs.
Putting down any product at wrong time wont eliminate grub need to get it early in season and again late in season if you have had grub you will need to apply for a couple of seasons to control it both these products will work
Never tried for grubs, but this is VERY interesting. I can vouch for Triazicide regarding ants and other insect though. I think I’ll be buying and combing both hence forth. Thanks for the great video
Glad to have come across this video! Thanks for sharing the knowledge and research that you've discovered on this journey of trying different pest control options. Its very helpful. Keep up the good work.
Maybe it depends on location? In OK, been using spectrazide faithfully, I have a bad grub problem and here I am looking for a solution. Using granular and hose end spray. Will be changing over. Thanks for the info!
Hey nice video keep up the great stuff. After do a BUNCH of research of my own about Miskitos bifenthrin or Bifen IT as it is more commonly known is for Miskitos that’s why it’s in there and listed as an active ingredient. That stuff kills anything above the ground. You can buy it as a to mix it your self and spray as well. Again thank you for your awesome videos
I tried spectracide granules two weeks ago on my lawn and found a grub today. I used more the the recommended dose. They don’t sell bioadvanced out in California and Amazon won’t ship it out here either. The ingredients I have to look for you said is called bifethrin and what was the other one?
I'm sure this is of zero help, but I mixed Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer with Scott's GrubEx when I found out we had termites and multiple types of ants fighting for territory in our backyard. I had bait stations installed for the termites and mixed the two insect killing granules together and applied to the yard. GrubEx contains CHLORANTRANILIPROLE as it's active ingredient, it is not to control existing grubs but to prevent future grubs.
I haven't seen any new video regarding this treatment. Would you say that the BiOADVANCE worked well? I tried it but for some reason I noticed an increase of Beatles and spiders.
@nc2764 The Bioadvanced will handle spiders not the Spectracide plus if you have spiders you would want a liquid to handle them. This granular formula will go on grass and mulch beds around the house but if you want to kill bugs right away get the spectracide spray bug stop that'll do much better
You need Trichlorfon or Dylox to kill grubs. Some of the 24 hr grub killers have it. Most of the season long control products don’t have have it. If you read the spectra cide bag closely it reads season long control on ants.
I definitely use Scotts Grubex. I just try different products from time to time and research alot of people's favorite products. Spectracide is alot of people's favorites products and one of my go to because of cost and its good for everything else except controlling grubs.
I used spectraside last year. The instructions say to use between July and October, which I did. Let me start off by saying that I went through a dozen Japanese beetle bags trying to save my garden. While digging a new garden, I was blown away by the amount of grubs I had and then realized that the mole problem was hand-in-hand with the grubs. So, I followed the instructions and used the product late summer. I was blown away by how fast it started working! My husband called me at work the following morning, and said the yard was full of crows and various of the birds eating the grubs as they were crawling out of the dirt trying to escape the pesticide that was killing them. Within two days my yard smelled like a dead animal! The grubs continued to crawl out from deep in the ground, and die on the top level of the yard for almost a month! I’ll be curious as to how many Japanese beetles I get this year. the moles are still tearing up the yard looking for grubs to eat. I hope that they move on to somewhere else as well.
If no one else has said already, I read online somewhere that it doesn’t kill grubs but it kills the bugs they eat, so not unlike most things we need food without food they either die or evacuate! Thanks for the video!
@@jameswilliford5478 thanks for bringing that to my attention, not sure how I misunderstood what I referring about, I was speaking of getting rid of moles and destroying the grubs help that issue! Thanks
I've always avoided Spectricide because it was always cheap. I was watching this video over again, and I heard you say that you've used it in the past. Do you believe it works better than Bioadvance?
Spectracide is a good product for the basic insects but if you want something that can do it all (grub control) bioadvance is a little better at it. But both are good products
Thank you for this post. I’ve been fight grubs since 2003, two new lawn institutions and I still got grubs. For the last 7yrs I’ve used the Breyer product on my front lawn, bottom line it does not work. I’ve used the Spectracide like you, in my backyard to protect my pets from flees and ticks. I’ve seen the new packaging for the old Beyer product but didn’t think enough to investigate the difference as you have done. My grub probably is so bad that now I have a mole problem. The moles tunnel under the lawn to eat the grubs. I’ve almost given up, I used to have a lawn not it’s just grass. This morning I’m on here in search of something to do about grubs and came across you post. I’ve been reading about Milk Spore for grub control. I think I may go that route.
Yea grubs are a pain that create other problems like moles and dead grass from your roots being eaten. I hope you get that problem under control. So far that spectracide product only work for flees and ticks. The bayer product does well at controlling grubs along with flees and ticks.
I’m no expert but do you think would the product be more effective on a freshly mowed lawn allowing the product to get down to the root of the problem…so to speak. Thanks for all the info.
Best Way To Know It Works After Week Or Two Putting It Down And Once You Mowed Your Lawn In That Time Frame And Birds Leave Your Yard As Quick As They Came... You Know It Works Because Normally After A Fresh Mowed Yard Bird's All Over The Place Eating Bugs All Day Long
