Amazing, OkiSubies knows their sh1t! The front of that Legacy is so beautiful, kinda looks like where the GC8 got its headlights shape from.

Rev b-c BG5 and BD5 legacy GTB/GTB Limited and RSB are about the same as a V3-4 STI. There’s no need to pull the whole dash, wiring loom and even motor to do the single turbo swap. The EJ20R is near identical with the EJ20K in the sti. Same heads, only difference is the shims and buckets, yellow injectors and orange maf sensor. they have the same transmission, ratio and diffs. Hence why people block off the secondary turbo oil feed/return, slap some single turbo parts and a 6S/1S or 75 sti ecu. I was halfway through collecting parts for single turbo conversion on my bg but I’ve decided to keep my twin set up as I’ve got an HKS exhaust manifold for twin turbo legacy’s that drastically changes the sound and response for a twin turbo system. These have been around here in New Zealand for a very long time and have seen a lot of things done to these tt Subarus

@@lawbricktimboynton1818 We are aware of the similarities, we actually mention that in the video. We went this route and prefer this method because we feel the GD platform is a better engine, easier to get parts, and is tunable.
@lawbricktimboynton1818
@lawbricktimboynton1818 Месяц назад
@@OkiSubies being from a gd chassis I understand swapping the loom as it’s a phase 2 motor, avcs etc. if you went through all that work why not just get a 207 from the sti, semi cdb, better internals etc or was it because that’s what was supplied?
@OkiSubies
@OkiSubies Месяц назад
@@lawbricktimboynton1818 it was honestly just a cost aspect for this build. EJ207’s are about $3500 but we can get EJ205’s for $1200 and sometimes cheaper, if something happens to the engine replacing an ej207 is expensive but we can pop an ej205’s and slap another one in no problem lol. EJ205 also has slightly higher compression so they are a fun motor to play with. When the budget is there we definitely go after the EJ207 though.

@@OkiSubies yea a lot of people here in nz have just bit the bullet and went s20c short block with their heads on and away they go. A lot of them in nz have blown bottom ends. Which is why even running Subarus are dirt cheap. I bought my 96 gtb for $500 as the immobiliser started playing up and just sat for a couple years. Turned out it had a new long block put in from a shop couple years before it sat as the original 20r blew a big end. Don’t know what they replaced it with tho but hasn’t missed a beat since I had it running

The twin turbo's have an unique character. I do prefer the torque down low with the valley of death over my Impreza where nothing happens under 4000 rpm.

Wow man this so cool , I’m new the car game , not very well educated but I bought a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT (Limited) unfortunately it’s a model from here and automatic. I was thinking about adding a turbo on it because why not because I’m sure that the North American ones don’t have turbos like the ones imported from Japan. Question for you , does mine have a turbo or no? And what would be the best turbo to put on mine ? Or should I keep it stock how it is? I know it’s not manual unfortunately but I love the car and I would’ve maybe liked to do as a project. Like I said I’m new to all of this. You guys killed it ! Subscribed. 🤝🏽 Your Legacy looks like but on roids. ✨

Seems like a lot of effort, why did you choose this approach? Being a facelift bd5 rev b/c you could have just singled the existing engine, changed 5 wires at the ecu plug and ran a 1s/6s/75 gc8 ecu, best “oem” single turbo approach to these gems. Done plenty of them
@OkiSubies

i have a BH5 twin turbo i want to convert to a single, can it be achieved without completely swapping out the engine ?
@OkiSubies
@OkiSubies Месяц назад
@@brianmanguriu9960 it definitely can! You just need to get a few parts from the same generation GC8. ECU, full manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, inlet and there are a couple things with a pinout change I believe. There are a lot of great write ups online😀

How much power can you make with the twin turbo
@OkiSubies
@OkiSubies 5 месяцев назад
The bottom end is very similar to the ej205 so we wouldn’t push it past 350whp. The turbos also don’t push much past 1.3bar but finding a tuning solution is the biggest challenge.

What's your take on these cold air intakes. Are they really efficient or they could cause damage to the MAF sensor
@OkiSubies
@OkiSubies 5 месяцев назад
As long as you tune them properly and have a clean filter I think they are good. But we typically like to make a box over the intake so you aren’t sucking in a bunch of hot air. Stock intake box is good up to about 350 though so besides the cool turbo sounds they aren’t really all that necessary lol
