Great video! Been pondering a lot if I should go for Ubox 100 or LittleFOCer and never considered Ubox 80 since I did not saw anyone using it! Really love that I will be able to use the existing casing! The molex sockets are for the 16 pin molex female connector right?

@@kallepetter spintend just recently updated the specs of the ubox 80 to 20s 100v 150a (it was so overengineered that they just updated the rating). so on paper this might be able to beat focers. and yes the sockets are for the 16 pin. i bought the 6 pin from makers pev and it came pre assembled so didn't mess with it

Amazing video Leon! I just bought the Ubox 80V now and got 10% off with 10off code. I think the only link you are missing is for the power switch you used. The zbms is sold out. Any other recommendations for a good and cheap charge only BMS? I just picked up a cheap OW+ and going to use the stunt pack battery for this build to keep things torquey, light and cheap.

this is a great alternative, basically the exact same as zbms: flipsky.net/collections/bms/products/flipsky-4s-24s-15a-bms-protection-board-hardware-ternary-polymer-lithium-battery-only-charge-bms-board while you're at it, i also recommend getting the flipsky vx4 remote (vesc 6). you can use it in conjunction with the bluetooth module, just connect it to the spare pins on the footpad comm port: flipsky.net/collections/remote/products/screen-remote-vx4-pro-for-electric-skateboard-ebike-eboat-compatible-with-vesc link to power button: www.amazon.com/dp/B08LV6P6VR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details hope that helps :)

Whats the difference between the focer and the ubox? If money was no object which one is better, as i feel like safety first over money too
@leonchang7596
@leonchang7596 Год назад
By no means an I an expert builder, but in my opinion, unless you have a floatboxx or elm box, where it’s super rigid and have plenty of room to house things, focers break more than anything. I have broken 3 focers in the past 6 months by running it inside of a printed box, and have seen too many focers blow up on forums. Focers also doesn’t come with a contained metal housing, Bluetooth module, fuse, power button, or any wires that connects it to the switchcrafts. Although ubox 80v only supports up to 18s and 100A (vs 120A focer), it’s still super high performing comparing to a FM controller, and it’s built with a ton of margin so some people overclock it to 150A without issues

Whys the 80v 100a one cheaper than the 75v 100a version on their website lol, is there smth im missing that's better on the 75v 100a version? If not why is the theoretically lower spec vesc more expensive? Thanks

@hungwensun
@hungwensun 9 месяцев назад
Leon, any chance you can explain either in a video or this comment regarding differences with 84v (20s2p) vs 75v (18s2p) batteries (is it really range vs top speed). Also why were your lit focers unreliable compared to the ubox? thank you for sharing your build it's super helpful for the diy community!
@leonchang7596
@leonchang7596 9 месяцев назад
Hi! Glad you find it helpful! essentially watt hours = range, and higher voltage = higher top speed. The reason 18s2p has higher range than 20s2p is that it is possible to pack in 21700 cells for 18s pack inside the torque box, but if you go with 20s2p then unless you do split battery pack, it is only possible to fit in 18650 cells in the rear box. Even though 20s2p has 4 more cells, each cell is smaller, therefore less capacity/Wh, therefore less range. If you build a 20s2p 21700 (many experienced vesc guys do this with split packs, and floatwheel), it will have more range than 18s. I believe my focers are unreliable because i was running them in 3d printed box. I think focers are really sweet if you have a beefy metal enclosure, 3d printed covers, and have everything bolted down. Since it’s basically a naked pcb vs ubox with a metal enclosure, it’s way easier to break, therefore it requires better craftsmanship to work with it.

Did you reuse the stock xr wiring harness or did you have to make your own?
@leonchang7596
@leonchang7596 6 месяцев назад
I made my own harness. I think it’s easier to make a new one with 4 neat cables instead of trying to rewire the FM mess with merging data cables as charge route. You can follow Mario’s guide on pev.dev to make a new one, pretty straight forward
@1and289
@1and289 6 месяцев назад
@@leonchang7596 i saw somewhere that if i get a 16 pin molex connector from makers pev i can reuse the stock harness and then if i just install an owie chip i can also reuse the stock fm bms for charge and discharge. Is this true?
@leonchang7596
@leonchang7596 6 месяцев назад
You can reuse the stock BMS + owie chip if you bypass discharge, but the makerspev harness only has a discharge route. You’ll need to modify it by adding 2 more wires for charging

@@1and289 cable gland is the easiest way and is better than molex actually, so good choice! you can print an adapter that lets you mount a m20 cable gland on the 16 pin molex hole if you want to cable gland the stock controller box.

I WOULD vesc my XR that I bought used here in Australia but to Vesc it with a controller and battery replacement/all the things you mentioned that need to be bought, it would cost me more than buying a GT brand new. Yep! Ubox supports up to 18s battery pack, and stock pack/CBXR are all 15s. You can run the stock BMS as charge/discharge but on a critical error the BMS will just cut power while you’re riding. Safer thing to do is to wire the stock BMS as charge only.
