You made me buy it and modify it. Thx for this and all the videos you made , through you I learned very much. Thx for your time and will to learn others. Giving knowledge to others is what needs more respect.
Great Video Jake! I Have the 5 gallon version and love it, the only thing i did differently was to add a 90 deg elbow to the inside of the lid where the air goes in so that it is deflected off to the side instead of blasting straight down
Jeff Holliman I knew I was forgetting to mention something.. lol This one came with an air deflector that screws In under the regulator.. if it didn’t have one I would have done something like you did with yours. . 👍👍👊
Excellent tutorial! I'm not nearly as apprehensive now that you've shown how to adjust all the safety things properly and test it. Thanks for the info!
Great tutorial. I ended up using metal washers instead of the rubber for my Home Depot did not have. Some 5 min epoxy on the center bolt and no leak. Your instructions on adjusting the pressure valve was very helpful for my TCP pot was set at 40 psi and was tripping each time. I thought i had a leak before i realized it needed adjustment. Thanks again
I find it so fascinating that every time I need something resin related and I have to do a conversion, I always wind up coming to your Channel. So recently I also bought a California air tools 10 gallon paint tank that I need to convert into a pressure pot. Only this time I know that I can probably get the items to seal up the top at a local hardware store this time around. I know this video is over 4 years old but if I happen to come across any changes to this pot, I will come back to this Channel and let you know like I did with the 2.5 gallon pot.
@@JakeThompson Okay, I'm back. Configuration is done, but I have a problem. I bought a 3 gal pancake compressor and for some reason, it's hasn't touched 20 psi. I bought an air compressor 1/4" kit from Central Pneumatic and after connecting all the parts I'm detecting leakage from the 1/4" female quick connector. Is it suppose to leak back out from the air inlet like that?
@@seekertosecrets7618 you are trying to fill a 10 gallon pot with a 3 gallon tank.. it’s not going to work well for you… I have a 8 gallon air compressor that will fill it but it’s slower than filling with a larger compressor.. I wouldn’t go lower than 8 gallon tank on your compressor. As far as the leak goes.. it shouldn’t leak.. if it does.. take it apart and reseal the threads, or if the quick connect itself is leaking.. the fitting might need to be replaced.
@@JakeThompson Will do, with luck I should have the shop working in another 4-6 weeks. Need elect and that means a new power box for the shop only. $$$ Oh well.
Great Videos and help. Thx, One thing to help not bashing. Longer bolt would be good didn't look like enough threads were coming through the nut. Sorry its the 30 yrs of Aircraft Maintenance in me, only trying to help. Again Thx!
That thing is _awesome_ ! Looking forward to what you'll cast in it. If you ever get tired of using it as a pressure pot you could make a heck of a batch of chili in that sucker.
Great video, Jake. Looks like you're getting out of control and falling off the deep end with resin thing. Can't wait to see just how far you go with this! The possibilities look to be endless.
@@JakeThompson I do have one question. When plugging the center hole with the 5/8" bolt, does the orientation matter (bolt facing down versus up)? If you inserted the bolt from inside the pot facing up (opposite of the video), then the pressure in the chamber would be pushing the bolt out. Seems like the bolt/bolt head would be a stronger joint than the threading/nut? Or does it really not matter?
Paul Bielaczyc it makes no difference. The rubber and metal washers are laying against the metal lid.. so it won’t matter which direction the bolt is facing.
Absolute max generally means (US Specs....) Safe - possible - burst is at least 2x that. 60 is easy for it and so is 50 and 40 is sleepy. Safety is a bleed down to safe not dump the can and requires manual reset. So if your compressor dumps volumes fast, it will be low and then overreach. Bleed down to set value. Cool.
So I ended up buying the TCP Global 2.5gal version. It looks like the CAT version except not as high quality parts. Followed this tutorial. And the lid has a rotted out thread where the safety valve screws in. Gonna try some locktite. If that don’t work ill just have to deal with the bubbles because 200 was the most I could spend.
@@JakeThompson It did work out! Loctite 242 to the rescue. I applied it liberally(only time I will use this word lmao) and let it set for about 45 minutes and that was that. Do you think 40psi is enough for clear dice and miniatures?
thanks for the video. very clear. i have a mold that is 16" tall and if i'm reading the specs correctly it should fit in this one - does that jibe with what you're seeing in yours? i was looking at a much more expensive "ready made for casting" pressure pot as i wasn't sure if i wanted to deal with the mods but your video made it so easy that i can take it on and can save a coupla bucks too. much appreciated.
Hi Jake just watched your video and subscribed on paint pots and I just converted a Harbor Freight pot everything went as planned i filled the tank up with air 40lb didn't hear any leaks at all but came back in about 90 mins and the tank had lost about 5lbs....any suggestions? Thanks for all the knowledge your putting out...Chris
Chris Oliver I leave the air on with mine and the regulator should keep it full.. sometimes my harbor freight lid leaks at the seal.. I just clamp the entire pot to the table.. fixes it right up.. thanks for coming aboard the channel.. 👍👍
Hi Jake, thank you for the helpful video. I'm just getting set up, converting mine for resin casting and had a couple of rookie-type questions for you... Firstly, I've removed all the nonessential stuff and am just waiting for the right size fittings to come so I can cap it off. I've temporarily put the hand-stirrer back in place and am wondering if I could just cut that off shorter and replace it to save the trouble of using a bolt and washers. The stirrer passes through a tight hole in the lid with two even tighter O-rings and is then secured by two collets with a grubscrew in each. No air gets out round it, so I'd wondered about just shortening the stirrer. More importantly, do I need to fit a non-return inlet valve to the pot so that I can disconnect the compressor? Or do you just leave the compressor pressurised and attached to the pot? Thanks!
Thanks for watching.. you can cut the stirrer, although a bolt is pretty easy.. The inlet valve works just fine.. you can leave the air on and just leave it hooked up. The regulator will keep it at the right psi
Hi, Jake!! First off, I love your videos. They are extremely helpful especially getting things set up for casting. I recently upgraded my HF pressure pot to a larger 8gal tank similar to the one in this video. One question, did you need to do anything to the "screw cap" that's between the pressure relief valves?? Mine has the same thing, and I want to make sure everything is covered before using it.
You can spray some soapy water or window cleaner on it to see where it’s leaking.. I would put epoxy around the bolt pretty thick and tighten it down if it leaked at the bolt.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I have a 3 gallon air compressor. I converted both a 5 gallon, and a 10 gallon pressure pot. Can I just keep emptying and filling the air compressor into the pressure pots, or do I need a bigger air compressor? I completely read my air compressor manual, but I have never operated it or any before.
If you have resin with a slow working time you might be ok.. but a good rule of thumb is that you want a tank on your compressor to be at least the same size as the tank on your pressure pot. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. 👍
I just got one of those pressure pots, but I need to purchase an air compressor... do you think itwill be enough with one of those that are meant to inflate car wheels? Thank you!
I recently bought this pot, converted it, but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. I don’t plan on doing large castings, I just wanted to be able to fit more than one casting in at a time, like the Harbor Freight. Have you looked into a collapsible wire rack that might fit inside of this, which would create shelves for multiple levels of smaller castings?
I'm trying to gather the parts for the pressure pot I bought and I'm not sure if I need the exact same parts. I got the VEVOR 10L 2.5 gallon pressure pot. I just don't want to get all the wrong pieces. Would this be the same? Thank you.
Your video is so clear and easy to understand. Thank you! This is my first time going to cast resin. Stupid question - what gas / tank do I get for the pressure pot? Thanks again!
S L K for this big pot you will need a bigger compressor.. I would say 10 gallon tank on your compressor. For a smaller pressure pot.. you would get by with a smaller tank.
Hi Jake, I finally got everything in place. quick question. How long does it take to fill the pot up with air? I waited about a minute but my pressure pot gauge didn’t move up at all. Thank you for your help.
Just watched your video on converting a 10 gallon California Air Tools paint pot for resin casting. I bought the same brand but only 5 gallon. Noticed you saying your from Texas as I am and I was wondering how to contact you privately with questions if you dont mind assisting me with some advice?
If you are short on money.. the harbor freight will get you by.. if you can afford it.. the 5 gallon California air tools is the way to go.. here’s a video on that one with links ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S6tvPsPEIQ0.html Pressure pot amzn.to/38Gxmhj
Jake, I just purchased the harbor freight pot and converted per your video. I can only get 35 PSI in my pot but it holds the pressure. How do I increase the pressure at least 45 PSI? I have a good pressure tank that far exceeds the pressure that I’m getting on the resin pot. Thanks for your videos, they’re appreciated.
Stafford Hillman Is the pop off valve coming popping off or does the regulator need adjusting.. turn the black regulator knob to the right and see if it lets more pressure in.
Another question: How pressure i need, that the air bubbles go out In a mix from 50 ml or 100 ml ? Or in a ready resin piece in this sizes?j Is the pressure i need continual go higher to the dimensions of my used resin or is this ecponentiell
Thanks for the vid, just succesfully moded my pressure pot! One question: I no longer have bubbles, but now I'm getting little bumps on the outside of the casting. Any recommendations?
@@maxdow574 it could be the mold.. if the silicone mold wasn’t degassed when it was made, it will have air inside it and when you put it in the pressure pot.. it can get bumps on the resin because the silicone is deforming under pressure
This is one of those "I can't believe I missed that"........For years I have been rushing and waiting for the fill time. One day I'm looking at the vacuum chamber and thought how about filling the chamber with ABS blocks the take up space in chamber....... Go figure .......
how would you suggest removing an Air Powered Mixing Agitator from a TCP Global Commercial Spray Paint Pressure Pot Tank ? I got this in hope to convert it but I failed to realized the mixing agitator is an entirely different thing as yours.
I’ve never taken one of them se apart but there has to be set screws or bolts to take apart… or I would send it back and get one that’s already ready to go. amzn.to/3nlQCLD
Jake, I have the California air 2.5 pot and a 5hp 20 gal compressor. I set up the pot like you have. Set my compressor to max setting. I can only get the pot up to 25 psi. I also used my pancake compressor 1.5 hp 2 gallon with same results. What am I missing to get up to 50 psi for resin? Thanks, Sean
Hi Jake! Thanks for the video. I have the 5 gallon version of this pot and am trying to convert it for resin casting but having some trouble. You make it look very easy! What size allen wrench are you using to loosen the agitator? 5/64 is too big but 3/32 seems too small.
Matt Pittman Thank you Matt!! I’m happy to be of help to ya!! It’s metric.. I had a cheap set of Allen wrenches and a 3 is the size that fit... so any cheap metric Allen set should have it.
Gyre Brillig I think the compressor just needs to be at least as big as the pot you are going to fill. And also I run a filter coming off of my compressor to collect moisture.
I hope this comment reaches someone.... can i use a 2QT one like this... 2 Quart Paint Pressure Pot on TCP global ... I dont use it for anything large and that size would make it amazing. can it hold the pressure? it says its capable of 45 psi but does that mean converting it to a pressure tank for resin it will hold the pressure ??
Here is a conversion for a harbor freight paint pot, I’m not sure which pot you want to convert but if it will help pressure as a paint pot, it should hold it as a pressure pot.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5jOttgLQvpA.html
@@JakeThompson yeah i followed your guide its good, the hf pot failed and almost killed me at 45 psi. So i am just looking for other options and my molds are 2 x 2 inches cubed I only use it at 45 psi too. I wish i was lying about the pot bursting open as i was tightening it on the initial leak test. It was quiet and next thing u know im setting it down and BOOM . It happened so fast i didnt even react from it. I can show u some pics of how it failed but i dont trust that pot anymore, its design just isnt for me. I was looking for a safer hobby them custom drones. This isnt looking like its about to be the one 😭
@@JakeThompson thanks for the prompt reply. My question is: can you remove an *automatic mixer rod*? (in your video, you remove a manual mixer rod - i don't know if they are similar in design). here is a link to the automatic one: www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07JPYGY18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
okay, it's been almost 18 months since you built this one, how has it performed in that time? Do you prefer this one to the HF one? Or the other way around? God bless
I use this one almost every time.. it doesn’t leak at all. It’s easy to seal the lid. I like everything about this pot.. the harbor freight pot is a cheap way to get into casting.. if you can afford one of the California air tools pots or others comparable, I would start with the better pots.
@@JakeThompson thank you for getting back to me so quickly. i am a newbie at casting. i would love to learn how to make my own molds, but even that stuff is to expensive for my budget.
First, let me say thanks again for the awesome tutorial. I have my tank converted and ready to go! Any recommendation on a valve that can be attached to the air outlet valve to reduce the noise/decibels when emptying the tank? Our mold room is quite small, and damn is it loud when you open that outlet valve! Oh, I also ended up going with a 3 1/2" 5/8" bolt. The 3" was only threading through about 1/3 of the nut, which I've always heard isn't ideal (www.boltscience.com/pages/shortbolting.htm). Granted the 3.5" sticks out past the nut by about 1/4", but better to thread through the entire nut than not. Maybe the thickness of the lid has changed with their newer model?
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it. As far as the noise. You are correct.. it’s pretty loud.. I guess you could hood a hose up to it and run it outside.. or just barely crack the valve open and let the air out slowly. I rewatched the video and I think my bolt went to the end of the nut.. I will look for sure next time I’m in the shop.. but you are correct on that also.. I hope you have lot of fun casting!!👍👍👊
@@JakeThompson Yeah, I tried to find them on the hardware stores around here where I live in Canada, but no luck with grade 8, only grade 5. Thanks for the video BTW!
hi i bought tha model for casting . it says 90 psi max . whats the best pressure for epoxy resin the valve is at 60 psi should i change the safety valve to 80 or 90 psi ?
Odys nobody The directions say 90 psi. I think that pressure is for the models. You can adjust the pop off valve very easily.. I run my pot at about 60 psi and adjusted the valve to go off about 70psi
Hi Jake. I'm going to buy the 2.5 gallon TCP Pressure Pot for my resin casting and was wondering if I could buy the Harbor Freight "General Pneumatic 3 Gallon 1/3 HP 100 PSI Pancake air compressor"(www.harborfreight.com/3-gallon-13-hp-100-psi-oil-free-pancake-air-compressor-61615.html) to use on the 2.5 gallon Pressure pot. Is this enough air "power" to use on this particular sized pressure pot? I have a small air compressor= 1/6HP 58PSI, that I use for airbrushing that I'm sure is not powerful enough. Thanks for your advice. -DS
That pancake air compressor should be fine.. the tank is bigger than the pressure pot and it’s double the psi that you need in the pressure pot.. should be fine
Hi Jake. Ive purchased the same pot and are modifying it at the moment. Do you know if it is safe to use this pot with resin that gets warm as it sets. Will the increase of heat in the resin, increase the pressure inside the pot. I turn resin bowls. See dougdavies.art Xx Doug Is that a Melbourne Storm flag on your wall.....I'm from Melbourne.
Doug Davies My Buddy Dirk from Sumo’s Projects sent me the flag. I haven’t had a problem with the pressure rising with the temperature. I will check out your page. 👍👍
