After several tests of this unit, it works awesome! It started to pair much faster after the first pair. Hopefully long term it holds up as well. I tested music and audio books both worked PERFECT!!!
@@HumbleMechanic installed a wireless charger in my 2017 q7 prestige. It fits well and charges really fast! It was made specifically to fit my car right under the armrest. Install was a breeze as well. Good luck!
I bought this unit last week for my 2018 Tiguan and installed it over the weekend. IT'S SPECTACULAR. Installation is simple (like seconds) and it works great. Seamlessly.. is the correct term. My unit connects much quicker than the one in the video (5- 15 seconds) THANK YOU... Can't wait for wireless charging : )
@@N44876 This is the one I had. It was great with just one driver and one phone, it got a little confused when you had 2 phones. This is the updated version of the one that I got on Amazon. There's a $40 coupon on Amazon as well. (2023 Wireless CarPlay Adapter CarlinKit 3.0 for Factory Wired CarPlay Cars Model Year: 2016 to 2018, for VW Audi Ford Sync 3 Mazda Mercedes Honda Chevy Subaru Porsche Hyundai Kia Lexus Gmc Acura) This is the updated one that I got on Amazon, there's a $40 coupon...
I got the Carlinkit 2.0 dongle for my Golf R 2017. It works like a charm. Activate when ever you want to send a message, play music, play Audiobook, Waze & Google map work like I'm plugging my phone. All I noticed is the 2 seconds delay when you play music, audiobook or playing vice message in iMessage. I had experimental yesterday, I went to a Volkswagen dealer, to check the new Gold GTI and to check the wireless charger & the wireless CarPlay, I was impressed by the Wireless CarPlay performance, no delay at all.
Yes to this! I spent ages researching, and VW do have a genuine charging cubby that replaces the current one. What’s the wireless CarPlay like when trying to interact with the stuff? I heard it can take a long time to register inputs to the phone
I'm grateful my old 1988 BMWs have 1din radios with Bluetooth and DAB radio that just connects by itself with no issues, infotainment systems are a pain in the butt.
I bought one of these for my 2018 F150 and it works great. After we sold off my wife's 2018 MINI Countryman S All4 (that already was equipped with wireless CarPlay) and acquired a 2020 Acura RDX, I got another one for that. It works well, but not quite as great as it does in the F150. Still, it sure beats having that damnable cord hanging out. Well worth the 100 or so bucks!
I love the simplicity of no wires, its a beautiful thing. How hard would it be on a 2015 MK7 GTI upgrade from a MIB1 to a MIB2 unit to simplify some of those connections? Awesome video as always!
I was super excited and I thought I could do this with my aftermarket KENWOOD unit. But then you pulled up the price and I immediately went. Ok no, I’m sticking with the cable for now.
It works pretty good. I have one too. It sometimes has very annoying hiccups and needs unplugged and plugged back in which comes w the long connect time.
I've got a Bluetooth mod for my old 01 saab that works flawlessly for playing music also got a small nfc pad that I tap my phone on to connect it. Gets connected in maybe 5-6 seconds, it's wonderful for playing music which is all I need and it lets me skip songs using the original steering wheel buttons
You beauty. Having just bought a Mk7. 5 Golf R I've been wondering if I can get my android auto to work wirelessly. I retrofitted wireless AA in my 2012 M135i so I'm glad I won't be missing this option for long. Cheers Charles.
I retrofit the 9.2" Discover Pro from the e-Golf to my Golf R last year. What annoys me, is that this system has the functionality for wireless carplay (since it has both wifi and bluetooth), but VW didn't bother enabling the feature. Hate having to plug it in.
I'm working on a carplay Android auto Mazdaspeed 6 solution and this is going to be a great addition to the packages I offer thank you for informing me that this exists!
Great work as usual. I have a similar device, and our biggest challenge is that my wife and I both use the car, and since we are both 'synced' to the wireless device, it will disconnect all the time when both our phones are in the car. Have you noticed a similar problem?
@Ivan Robertson. There is one method. you can try Delete a paired Bluetooth name in the settings.or turn off your phone bluetooth .which the device may connect normal
It works well, just a bit out of audio/video sync for RU-vid videos. My iPhone battery health is already down to 90% due to the constant plugging/unplugging so this should help.
That's an excellent solution! I wanted to have that feature installed on my SUV but the option available involved taking apart the dashboard and unsightly wires would still be visible.
One caveat to these systems is that they tend to give you issues when there is a new IOS update. From my experience you have to update the wireless receivers firmware each time as well. Not the end of the world but if you are someone that updates IOS right away, expect some wait times for the company to catch up. (this experience was with a different brand but I think most of these work the same way)
Great video and I have a 2015 golf sportswagen. What do you think of doing a mib 1 to mib 2 or 2.5 conversion. I would like car play and android auto. And I wish had easier solution for 2016 Touareg also.
A wireless upgrade would be nice. I rent cars a lot and like it when that is available, especially with wireless charging. My main issue with my 2020 GTI is that my phone very often disconnects. Dealer will be replacing the USB port soon. Hope that fixes the issue
Just bought the exact same item and a wireless charger for my 2017 golf r estate in the uk. Not fitted it all yet. Looking forward to the video about the fitting the wireless charger
I just installed wireless charging on my MY19. 2 cables to the head unit, 12v constant, ground and a cable to the BCM (CAN BE IGNORED) 2 changes in the car coding to tell the car you've installed the charging pad and to show notifications on the screen. Simples!
when you add inductive charging make sure your phone fits well otherwise it moves around while driving and you get an error on the infotainment constantly.
I was with you until I heard the price haha. I have a quad lock mount in the car and considered updating the head to the wireless one but that would lose car play and this extra cost is just a cost too far. I guess I’ll just have to keep plugging the cable in :-)
You still have to use the available USB port in the cabin and have to tuck the little box away with a wire poking out. I am trying to find something that might connect to the back of the radio and is out of the way.
I use BT in my RS3 and rarely use CarPlay but I notice that sometimes by BT doesn't pair half the time and I have to manually do it.. guess I should get a wireless CarPlay adapter
To bad you didn’t show a sound test between hard wired and Bluetooth. I’ve got a 18 Buick and I know the sound is not as loud when using Bluetooth compared to hard wired. I to have Wi Fi in the car and not sure how this would interact with it. Great idea but to many variables for my set up. Need more proof. Thanks for doing the vid and showing the technology. Have a good one.
@@HumbleMechanic Naked ear. 30 seconds your tune on I tunes. Same 30 seconds 3 times. Three different runs car play hard wired, car play Wi Fi and lastly Bluetooth. This to see if there is any volume loss between setups. All playback through car speakers. You might be able to get an app for db measurement that may make it more precise. Food for thought. I do love the idea of going wireless cause I plan to take a road trip 1500 miles each way and this would make it so much easier for navigation and such. Thanks for reaching out. All the best to you.
That's pretty awesome! I've not used Car Play/Android Auto because the normal Bluetooth connection to my phone works so well. It connects fast, and everything transmits clearly. Are the "auto" apps really worth using?
Funny you mention charging because constant charging of my phone while on wired CarPlay is one of the things I want to get away from since keeping battery at 100% shortens its life.
I sure hope your wireless charger works better than the Qi ones that come in most cars like my Palisade. That thing charges slower than a snail on quaaludes!
How the F carplay stereos are still not wireless ? I thought the whole idea of carplay was to get rid of wire mess on dashboard, but it turns out you still need to plug your phone to get it work. I belive in next year apple makes it total wireless and preset it as an astounding new feature.
Someone needs to make this for Android Auto. I wouldn't mind having to plug my phone in but USB 3.0 ports are so touchy that they randomly disconnect, making it extremely frustrating to use.
Wired carplay is able to deliver a superior signal because it is not compressed. This is noticable when playing high quality audio. BT is a compressed dig signal and cannot match a wired connection when playing HIGH QUALITY AUDIO.
I did this using an old LG V30 I had laying around. Only problem is it only charges when you are driving do it eventually goes dead after a week or two. Take it out and recharge it and you're back in business. I connect to it with my Hotspot. I have unlimited t-mobile data plan. Works great.
Thanks for your video. I purchased the same Carlinkit as you. I have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy which is on the approved list on Carlinkit website. It works fine however when I look at my iphone 12 it shows my Santa Fe is not connected as well as the Carlinkit. Any suggestions?
I only have a CD player from 2003, that won't read most CDs and is limited to FM radio in a country that made the full switch to DAB+ a few years ago... I really have to get a new radio on my old Jetta...
Hey man, I noticed you have keyless entry in the rear doors?! WHAT?? how ? big thanks ;) I hove a Rabbit gti 2019 and I only have that on the 2 front doors... cheers!
I’ve had one in each vw for over a year now. Looks like Chinese crap, but they release firmware updates often and it holds up from my experience. I recommend it.
Bummer, I was hoping it would work with my Pioneer Head Unit I added to my 2003 Suburban. Maybe I will look around for other options to do this. There has to be. 8-) I also don't like hooking up my cable every time as my iPhone connector wore out in the phone.
Hey man question for ya. I have a mk8 base line so I have wireless charging but no wireless care play. Would this would on a base line mk8 ? Love the content
Probably is, but I can’t Say 100%. If you buy it, would your easily be able to return it? Could be super valuable to report back to the mk8 world. My guess is, it would work. But I can’t say for sure without testing it
