This charger ru-vid.comUgkxknS1MWclRHOKWekYXnBJz8Ex0rEPnrGF works great with the DCB205 and DCB203, I've charged both a few times without issue. After I'd searched for a while this was the best value charger I found and it's new, boxed up well, and it's built as well as any charger I've had.

well mate you are lucky the capacitor didn't blow up on you, never connect 120 Volts equipment to 220 , especially switch mode power supplies they will cause damage. the capacitor was rated for 200V max and you used on a 230 VAC above the cap range , not safe there is not polarity for the resistors , what you basically did was a voltage divider Vout= Vs X R2 / (R1+R2) , you replaced 2 jumpers with 0.33 ohms resistor per the above formula 220X0.33 = 72.6 , 0.33+0.33= 0.66 Ohms 72.6 / 0.66=110 Volts

The grey line marks the negative side of the cap, resistors are not voltage polarity sensitive components. It doesn't matter which load of the resistor goes to the positive or negative due to them literally being a resistive wire.

Works perfectly... Excellent instructions. Only difficult part was removing the T15 torx screws from case. They have security pin so normal torx T15 wrench will not work easily... You tube using flat head screw driver to remove torx screws with security pin... Simple thereafter. I used the legs snipped off the resistors after mounting on PCB to extend existing legs on capacitor as it's too short and thick with its standard snap-in connectors.

The capacitor is used to filter out ripple voltage from a bridge rectifier (converts the incoming AC voltage to DC voltage), if anyone is curious. The reason why the capacitor needs to be rated for 400 volts or greater is because the DC voltage is way too high. Consider that your country uses AC voltage ranging from 220vac to 250vac. Remember, that is the RMS voltage. Multiply the RMS voltage by the square root of 2 (1.414). Once the AC voltage is rectified, your DC voltage will be 311-353.5 volts. Now, put that voltage through an electrolytic capacitor rated for 200 volts and...pop!

Good afternoon Riaan, I ask you a question given your experience, I connected one of these chargers without noticing that it was 110v to a 220v network, it obviously flew, but when disassembling it I only see a fuse at the entrance that measures it has continuity, and the capacitor that burst. The question is, will I be in time to make the change that is recommended in the video?

Better you sold this in US and could’ve bought a 220v charger in local store
@skittleseer1
@skittleseer1 3 года назад
It’s much cheaper to replace the capacitor than it is to buy a charger that will operate at 220v. As far as the resistors he’s installing: they are most likely not needed. Also in this circuit is an N-channel mosfet but the drain-source voltage rating is 600v. No need to worry about that component.

Hello, could you please check what is the symbol of MOSFET used in DCB115 (black element screwed to upper radiator)? I am trying to convert DCB118 from 110V to 220V, but I heard, MOSFET used originally in DCB118 110V does not work for 220V - it burns. So I tried to verify how it was done in DCB115. Thanks in advance

Is there a problem in merely using a step down voltage converter instead of converting the components? I've been running my old style Dewalt 18v XRP charger on a converter for about 10 years but my 2nd set of batteries just died. Curious whether it is due to the use of a step down converter or that's the lifetime of these batteries. Also, the charger is 110v 60 Hz and we have 50 Hz here. Thanks!

Hello, Since the video is now some month old, is it still working and did you checked the voltage on the battery connector pins ? The led can come out and blink .. but the voltage can be wrong. Cause i can't see how a capacitor swap can solve that 110V difference.

I read an explanation in the comments of another video. It was said that the circuit for this charger is designed for 85 volts up to 250 or so, which means that for just a few pennies, dewalt could have made all of them multivoltage. but I don't know yet how he picked the values for the resistors or knew that they belonged there and as far as I know resistors do not have polarity.
