This looks super appetizing! I have heard that the best time to catch these is in March/April. The native American people up there incorporate these fish into their diets.

I marinated mine, stuffed them with roasted green chili, wrapped them in puff pastry, buttered and baked them until golden and dipped them in a remoulade. The result was out of this world.

I wish I could see a picture of your recipe, almost like hooligan Wellington 😊. You should post a video with your recipe, 😋 yum.

I gut mine and fry them outside because the whole house and all your cloth smell like fried fish. 🤣 my family's 1st yr catching them, parents fried them daily. We deep fried them until crispy, also mashed some with dry pepper, and also onto hooligan larb, OG style. My dad does the larb.We got tired of eating after a couple of weeks. I took a 2 yr break from hooligan fish.🤣

This is my 3rd batch of hooligans baked with your recipe and I still feel insecure about the amount of time I need to bake them. Could you or one of your subscribers give me an approximate time? Thanks.

What is the purpose of not gutting them?
@NuttyNu
@NuttyNu 4 года назад
not needed
@AlaskaPirates
@AlaskaPirates 3 года назад
You can or not, some ppl just put a hole in the gut pack so they drain while being smoked. I prefer to clean them, but I have had them so many different ways, you don’t really need to. I like them cleaned and smoked the best though.

Yes they are a type of smelt. People from the midwest says that the Alaska hooligan are bigger and taste better. Some people just see them as bait fish or trash fish.
