How To Cook Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs

Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs
Servings: 6
INGREDIENTS
6 eggs
Water, to cover
Ice, for ice bath
PREPARATION
Place eggs in a pot. Cover with cold water until the eggs are covered by about 1 inch of water.
Bring to a boil, uncovered. Once boiling, take off the heat.
Cover and cook for 4-16 minutes, depending on preference (4-6 minutes for soft-boiled, 8-10 minutes for medium-boiled, 12-16 minutes for hard-boiled). In the meantime, fill a large bowl with ice and cold water, creating an ice bath.
Once eggs reach desired cook-time, immediately remove the eggs from pot and place in the ice bath. Allow eggs to cool for 10-15 minutes.
To peel, lightly tap the eggs on a flat surface, then gently roll back and forth (taking extra care with soft-boiled eggs).
Pull away the loosened shell and peel any remaining pieces.
Serve as is or incorporate into your favorite recipe that requires hard-boiled eggs.

I have been cooking my eggs this way since I was 15. I am now almost 70. Recently I tried an alternate method . Bring the water to a boil first and then gently add the eggs. Turn off heat and cover and let stand for 5 to 15 minutes. Try it. I think you will find it to be a superior method. Happy trails!!

@@TerenceMakapan once you gently put the eggs in the boiling water you need only wait til the water is at a full boil . Then you can turn off the heat .it depends on the size of the pan and the number of eggs. Usually only about thirty seconds or less.. then just cover and let sit for 15 minutes . 🤣🇺🇸😃

Easily the quickest most understandable video out there. No talking head, no personality. Just simple facts and comparisons. I was about to hard boil eggs for the first time in 27 years and I was going to put them right into boiling water like I do noodles. Never would have thought about letting them sit or putting them in ice water. EXTREMELY helpful.

I learned watching Julia Cild on PBS many years ago. For hard boiled eggs, bring the water to a boil, add the eggs, boil for 13 min for the first 3 eggs, add a minute for each additional egg after that. She even gave instructions on how to pick eggs that won't crack when you put them in the boiling water, but I didn't retain that info. Also, note, she's on record giving other instructions on boiled eggs, but this has worked for me for 30 years and I have perfect hard boiled eggs every time.

Having the eggs in the water when you begin to boil it can make the shell come off easier, and reduces the appearance of the green ring around the yolk. But neither of those things are very important to the taste of the egg. The ice bath is another thing to make the egg easier to peel. In the end, even a 'hard to peel egg' isn't that hard to peel so... do it however works.

For hard boiled eggs: I bring mine to a boil and let them boil 2 minutes. Take off heat and let sit, uncovered, until cooled. Comes out perfect every time!

No, but it sounded vaguely familiar to the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction. Look up 'The Centurians - Bullwinkle pt. 2' It sounds very similar, and what is especially captivating is the scene in which this track is played. How long do I boil it for? And how do I know when it is boiled? So is it as soon as I see the bubbles then take it off?
