Amazing. AJ is making pros. I'd love to go through a thorough training with a coach like this. A lot of people out there just jump on a bike and go, but it's so important to learn this way with a pro instructor because you'll have proper foundation in your career, as opposed to building bad habits. Always harder to go back and re-learn if you haven't already.

@nissan_6828
@nissan_6828 2 года назад
On a 2 stroke i believe it doesn’t matter and on 4 strokes it makes it free wheel so it stops engine braking and 2 strokes don’t engine brake, if you don’t use the clutch on a 125 for say, you’re not even riding it properly
@LukeTeyler

Hey AJ, do you have a reference for a video where you're actually turning on the bike? I'm having trouble picturing the elbows in the turn. You're saying not to dip the inside elbow but wouldn't that naturally happen when you're pulling that handlebar in? Or is it okay if you're elbow is still high and bent, but you're using your upper back to pull the bar in, like a row? Not sure I get it. Or, is your whole core turning inside with your head, keeping your elbows bent while still turning the bars? Or is it just leaning more?

I wish you covered more body position on the bike. I know you said up on the gas tank or close to hit. But given the height of those berms would you recommend saying more centered on the seat or ride on the top for more inner tire bite? And, lol on the 40 push ups at the end! Hope no one had to endure that with arm pump. Great video, keep'em coming!

@AjCatanzaro
@AjCatanzaro 5 лет назад
Cristóbal González your upper body has to remain centered on the bike. Being strict about your elbows will simply give you the leverage to keep your body from swaying side to side. As you get better at this technique you can rely more on your core strength and less on your elbows, however I always recommend being in the habit of having both elbows up

Isnt engine braking bad for 2 strokes because it blows a hole in the piston, how do you do it without holdling in the clutch?
@loopduplicate
@loopduplicate 5 лет назад
I was under the impression that engine braking is fine in 2 strokes. If I'm wrong, then I apologize to all my friends who have let me borrow theirs on trail rides. Why do you think it blows a hole in the piston? Engine breaking is just a lot less in 2 strokes but it's there and I can't think of any way it would hurt a piston.
@chook1080
@chook1080 5 лет назад
Because when it isn't idling or revving, there is no lubrication for the piston resulting in metal against metal, causing heat to build up and blow a hole in the piston.
@loopduplicate
@loopduplicate 5 лет назад
Oh, I see where the confusion is. You never want to turn your bike off unless it's for a very short time but you can engine brake all you want with the engine running. Yeah, riding a bike without the oil pump working is bad. Some pro riders, if you watch their RU-vid videos you will notice that they turn off their bikes on really really steep gnarly stuff to get even better engine braking, I guess, but they can afford to rebuild their bikes all the time.
@AjCatanzaro
@AjCatanzaro 5 лет назад
Chook not that I know of. I’ve always made bikes last forever, two strokes and four. Engine brake is less obvious on a two stroke but definitely still very important.

In a 85-125 you want 2nd gear and clutch engaged until the apex of the corner. Feather the front brake to find a good line and don’t lock the rear up, full throttle and let the clutch out smoothly it is like being shot out of a cannon.

Awesome techniques that are somewhat basic but they still are never being done on the bike. I do think you left an important key out, or may have the audience misunderstood. The more you accelerate the harder you have to lean. So if you come Into a corner and need more speed, lean the bike over harder at the same time as you accelerate. That was the only technique you didn't inform them on well.

Jason Padgett not true. Same rules apply for a two stroke. You should NOT rely on the clutch throughout the turn on any bike. I would never teach a technique that could only be applied to one type of bike.
@dbikekid2169
@dbikekid2169 5 лет назад
@@AjCatanzaro so on a two stroke you would brake without clutching ? I thought this technique was more of a 4 stroke thing
@andrewjck1
@andrewjck1 5 лет назад
I was looking for a comment with the 2 stroke technique, but you guys aren’t touching on what my concern is. If you aren’t rich, you ride for fun, and you have a budget to ride you have to know your machine and ride it to last. On a 2 stroke when you engine brake you run the cylinder and crank dry. All of the lubricant for those parts comes from the throttle. Rolling fast every corner in gear forces the top end to turn at high rpm with very little oil. Do this every corner and significantly shorten your maintenance intervals. So is there a clutch in freewheel technique for corners?
@bunnyman6321
@bunnyman6321 2 года назад
@@andrewjck1 If you know all this then you should be teaching
@andrewjck1
@andrewjck1 2 года назад
@@bunnyman6321 I couldn’t. I wasn’t fortunate enough to grow up with the funds to be in the sport at all. I’m not a skilled rider. I love riding and I’m alway trying to learn. I’m sure the wear is negligible and maintenance intervals are tight anyway. After more though I guess engine break your heart out, have fun, and do maintenance. If you have any knowledgeable input that’d be cool. Or you can just try and dunk on people if you’re having a bad day I guess
